Helldivers 2 picked up the PvE playerbase that Overwatch 2 left crippled on the floor.
Aaand they're starting to lose a little bit of it when looking at my friends list in the game and crash reports on steam and other places. The crashes have gotten worse (Even after the arc patch) and every patch to fix bugs introduces more bugs. I absolutely love the game, but damn, things are not improving much

Ow never had a pve player base. If they did, 800k players would be a fraction of it. Fuck OW, and helldivers is slowly dying too. Can’t figure out that progression is what players want. Game is going to be dead in 1-2 months unless they do something about it.

Well no shit it's an inferior platform, where have you been? If you own a PC or Xbox, kind of makes that system irrelevant outside of coping Nintendo andys. The system and company is too locked down, I'm also not a fan of sub services and prefer offline modes or at the very least, support for emulation services alongside the platform.
@@FriezaReturns00001This is gonna blow your mind but the Switch isn't "too locked down" at all for people who enjoy Nintendo's first party output. It's been around long enough to have an excellent library of exclusive titles, and when you combine that with its affordable price and portability, I'd wager you'd have to be something of a stooge not to see the system's appeal despite its aging hardware.

For sure. I'm Xbox leaning but a big fan of all the platforms, and while buying one less box is obvious a pro, in just about every other way Xbox leaving the hardware space entirely would be bad for just about everyone other than Sony's shareholders.
And you're worried now? Sony put all their exclusives (except Bloodborne) on pc, even the PSVR2 is headed to pc. They raised the price of the ps plus for a service that keeps getting worse, the helpline is non existent and they announced a PS5 pro which will probably still won't be able to be a 4K machine. And they were all in for raising the price of games to 80 dollars. Xbox falling behind is terrible (the reverse would have been bad as well). Now that Sony owns that space they're only gonna get scummier.

@@peefmcgoose2908They were probably upset when during one of the Live Letters during Tears of the Kingdom launch day, Yoshida showed up with a Switch in hand and encouraged his playerbase to go play TotK if they were feeling burned out on FF14. I love that Yoshida follows his own "don't burn out on one game and play lots of other games!" advice.
He gave himself that very same week. Man's gotta play through it before he can fully devote himself to launching the expansion after all.
BG3 isn't my game... at all. But thanks to Larion being who they and their CEO just being a decent human... I bought it for full price anyway. What an absolute gentleman and scholar.

How is that weird? PC is a much more open platform that doesn't restrict what you can do with it nearly as much as a console which has fairly specific parameters that are essentially unchangeable. It's a LOT easier to develop for PC than it is to develop or port or optimize for Xbox. This is not weird, it's common sense.

Act 3 of bg3 is pretty rushed. The game is pretty front loaded. I feel like a full blown expansion would sell gangbusters and flesh out the end of the story, although it would be very difficult to account for all the choices you made that lead into act 3 so maybe it just isn’t worth the effort.
Swen is a dude that I trust more than I ever trusted Marcin from CDPR.
But even so, who knows what the future holds?
I hope Swen keeps his word in check all the time, cause the bigger enemy of a good studio is always greed. And there is reasons for it all the time after Baldur's Gate 3 success. So lets hope for the best.
I remember people saying "In CDPR we trust!" after Witcher 3... and then... well... we all know the story.

I was just about to make this comment. Everyone loved CDPR! They could do no wrong after W3, and all its great expansions. They were also a medium sized studio like Larian not too big, and independent. People liked that about them.. Then comes Cyberpunk and its terrible launch with broken promises. Doesn’t surprise me that Larian isn’t providing further support for BG3. Hasbro laid off basically everyone Larian worked with to collaborate on BG3, so it may feel pretty much like scorched earth for them to stick with the franchise.

They're still providing support for the game, they just aren't making any new content for it.
Larian has not stopped "support". They just won't create extra content like a DLC. And I think that's maybe a good thing, I'm tired of companies nickel and diming with DLC.
Can we talk about how Stardew now has almost 3x the Steam player count of Suicide Squad?
Plenty of games have more players than SSKTJL. Despite that conspiracy theory about Valve allegedly deleting several thousands of (legit, non-ToS violating) reviews it never was successful to begin with, not if you take into account that it's an AAA game that had been in development for many years.

Swen makes a really good point when he says, "don't lose the institutional knowledge" by firing and rehiring. This is much bigger I think than people give credit for. Larian was able to put out a game like Baldur's Gate because of the experience of the studio, of the people who work in the studio and who have been there for all the projects that have led up to BG3. BG3 would not have been possible if they had been cycling in new hires over the last few game releases.
Exactly. I could never enjoy turning up to work with people I get to know for 1 year and then say goodbye forever. I've been with my company for 7 years and there's just such a fluid work environment going on, I bet it does great things for a studio working towards a common goal

@@crustypaff452 I disagree.,my deck dualboots Linux and Windows so I can play all the anti-cheat windows games like Fortnite and Rainbow Six. Compared to the competitors, what the Steamdeck lacks IMO is more power and USB4 (to connect eGPUs).
Steam Deck is far from locked down. It's built on open source.
He wants to promote the Xbox handheld device for some reason idk why. I just want someone to answer me this, who is going to buy an Xbox handheld which will lock you in the Xbox ecosystem instead of an open Windows/Linux device like the ROG Ally or Steam Deck? Especially when even if you are an Xbox game, you can just download the Xbox PC app and play? That device will be DOA. Just another failure for Xbox.

6:30. There's no lockdown of the Steam Deck at all. You can install different launchers and play games that are not sold on Steam. It's a PC, you can do whatever you want with it.
He has a Steam Deck, he knows. But for the majority of gamers it's too complicated to be usable. There's a pretty big middle ground between tech savvy gamers and Nintendo-only gamers.
They may not be the current Steam Deck's target audience, but they could have been. A laptop is far easier to use than than the Deck.

There are already handheld devices like Ally, MSI and Lenovo which run on Windows which are user friendly for casual folks who think it is to difficult to install Windows OS on the Deck. Explain to me this, why would you buy an Xbox ecosystem locked device over the Deck or other Windows devices like Ally or Lenovo?

@@omerpockard7212 As a tech savvy gamer (I work in IT), even I don't know if I care to put Windows on my Deck as it just seems like a hassle. I've heard official support for dual booting into Windows is coming, so I'm just waiting for that.

Most people don't even wait for reviews. The gaming community generally sh'ts on anyone without a UA-cam channel because story-driven games with low difficulty can often get good scores.
My son enjoyed his DD1 assassin and was going to pick up Dragon's Dogma 2, I asked him to buy a physical copy, and I'd chip in, so he could hand me the game when he was done. Now, when he's done in a month or so, I can either play the fixed version or just sell it. He didn't even use the pre-order DLC code. Try that with your digital deluxe versions.
I rarely get burned because I have good taste and know what to spend my money on
I heard from pre-reviews if ya liked the first Dragons Dogma you’ll love the Dragons Dogma 2. Simply put they were correct, just about really knowing the games you’ll love even if they have a few problems.

I was dozing off, about to fall asleep, half dreaming already and not paying full attention then I heard "Bloodborne II" and got jolted awake because my already dreaming brain thought Larian was going to work on Bloodborne II lol

I'm a firm believer that Baldur's Gate 3 just doesn't need DLC, whatsoever. It is an incredibly dense and immersive experience. One playthrough for me was sixty hours, and I enjoyed every one of them. Hats of to Larian for creating a masterpiece in gaming.

Yeah, there are lots of stories about this guy yelling at people changing game design / mechanics on a whim. I'd be careful with how much credit is given to him as a game resident genius/Auteur.
He might be a decent writer. He might have a nice-looking CV, but from what I hear, he's a nightmare to work for in a leadership role.
Dragons Dogma exploration is definitely good. There are times when it will be night, I will have only 25% of my life, my pawns as well. We are just running through the woods trying to find a campfire. It def gives you a feeling that you never really get anymore.

12:40 -Good video but I feel the DD2 situation wasn't painted entirely fair. Regarding people "defending" the MTX situation around DD2. At least, from what I've seen, it's not as much about defending the MTX practices themselves as it is about pushing back against misinformation. It's gotten better, but the first few days of release the misinformation surrounding DD2 was crazy on reddit, youtube, twitter, steam, etc. I saw so many people claiming that the only way to fast travel was through MTX, or that editing your character required mtx. Or that this somehow ruined Capcom's streak of good games (despite them doing this exact mtx situation in Monster Hunter, RE4, and DMC as you mentioned). The conversation surrounding the game was immediately poisoned and I think a lot of people felt the need to correct a lot of the misinformation that was spreading like wildfire. It's not about "defending" Capcom/microtransactions, it's about setting the record straight against all of the kneejerk reactions. I'm all for calling out bad practices and I don't like MTX, but the blind screeching that was going on at release was nonsense and an overreaction. I think the performance issues is a way more important issue than the MTX ever was.

Couldn't have said it better myself. It's been so frustrating watching so many people regurgitate the same misinformation without ever even playing the game or fact checking. Also, where was this outcry with DMC5, RE and MH:W? Was I just living under a rock during those releases or did people kind of pick DD2 to become absurd about?
MTXs are cancer. 2 gens of this disgusting, repeated, anti-consumer practice and attempts to NORMALIZE them. Then what's next as growth demands? We are already nickel and dime to death. Capcom has had them and many have indeed protested, only to be scrubbed out by UA-camrs and streamers (making money) and frothing addicted fanboys screaming how those of us concerned are just haters with big AAA titles turning into FOMO mobile trash and the destruction of the art form. Publishers take 10 steps to anti-consumerism, dial it back 1 step when there's back lash, and everyone praises how they're listening. There is PLENTY of historical evidence proving the possible destruction of the art form if we let it.
Rise of the Ronin is an underrated gem, the user score is 8.6 on metacritic. It has top tier combat that is levels above Ghost of Tsushima. It is peak samurai RPG action.
All of corporate America operates on a quarterly budget mentality. I worked in electronics manufacturing for 25 years and watched them hire and fire over and over. The way to become immune to being laid off is by finding the worst, most hated job in your work group and becoming the expert at that job.
Thats sounds like a miserable job to have. Sound advice if you can handle doing that job.
Part of Jim Carrey's life story was him watching his dad choose to abandon his dream in order to get a steady paycheck at a supposedly secure job and have that ripped out from under his feet anyway, and the whole family becoming homeless and living out of their car or something like that. To add to the xbox discourse. My brother is now looking at getting a PC because he has been left behind by everyone. We are playing things like helldivers 2, battlebit remasted, lethal company, and even have bought monster hunter on PC to play it there instead. There just isn't a great reason to stay on Xbox when some of the best multiplayer experiences are elsewhere, and outside of Nintendo exclusives the almost all of the best single player games are all available there too (Bloodborne when?).

The problem with only delivering to one console, you're asking for a monopoly. Do what you want now, but it's only going to hurt you in the future when Sony's current track record is increases. When the increase hits the ceiling for the consumer on game price, the next would be percentage cut from digital sales from developers and publishers.
19:05 I thought the whole deal with Epic Games Publishing is that they were fully fronting the development costs (effectively removing all financial risk for the developers) and that developers would get additional royalties if those costs were recouped? So how did Remedy lose any money on Alan Wake 2 then?
There a usually always some loop hole or requirement that needs to be met, can't say for sure in this case, but it wouldn't surprise me if that was the case.
I would almost guarantee that Epic had some loophole to fall back on in case the game didn't meet expectations. It's shitty tbh but that's AAA game corporations for ya.

Thank you for speaking against mtx in DD2. As everybody said, yes those things can be obtained in the game. No need to spend money. But it is absolutely discusting to sell them in 70eur game. What everybody tend to NOT mention is that majority of those things will be obtained in greater number later in the game. Wanna change your character? Out of wakestones? Don´t have enough RC for new pawns? And don´t get me started with that one character slot. There are purposfully made inconveniences and Capcom is selling solution. No matter how good the game is, this is awful.

Microtransactions suck ass, never purchased one and never will but the ammount of misinformation going on on Twitter/Reddit in the past week around DD2 has been outrageous, from people claiming you must pay to edit your character (the item is dirt cheap with the in-game currency) to claiming they purposefully removed teleports to sell them to you when you can purchase only one as DLC and it doesn't increase your cap, meaning that if you already found 10 in the game, your DLC purchase was worthless.
Widespread confusion about unnecessary and greedy monetization is the fault of the publisher. There wouldn't be anything to be confused about if they weren't literally trying to trick people out of their money.

I personally think Gamepass is on fire right now. As an American baseballer, the MLB day 1 drop last week was awesome, and thats console exclusive. Ever since finishing the great exclusives over on PS5, Xbox has become my bread and butter with the great stream of games coming to Gamepass. Just my 2 cents!

Except, as someone who has put 50 hours into the game, the mtx❤are negligible. I never felt the need to buy it. Hell, the game isn’t even hard (assuming you don’t run into a tough enemy early game. Me Vs Minotaur was a disaster that wiped all 3 pawns.)
I don’t like them, but the people boycotting the game or saying that Capcom handicapped the game to push micros is an absolute lie. Those are put in there to get a little extra cash from those who would waste their money uselessly anyway.

If I remember right though, there are a lot of asterisks when it comes to the eula and it’s not typically enforceable outside of breaking actual laws, it’s been years since I’ve really heard anyone talking about it though so when I kind of remember could be very outdated. Either way, it’s a weird “contract” that’s always rubbed me the wrong way.

My respect for you just grew a few levels with that Ghost of Tsushima zinger. I feel like especially among the online gaming community that game is beloved, and it’s very rare to see criticism of it (very brave of you 😂).
Don’t get me wrong, it’s a gorgeous and well-made game and I was initially wowed by it early on, but its quest design, exploration and overall gameplay structure just felt like open-world Assasin’s Creed (which I’m not a big fan of).
Another release worth mentioning is the Nixxes PC port of Horizon Forbidden West. Not a new game, but contrary to the trend of terrible PC optimization, this port is actually super solid and stable. Nixxes know what they're doing when it comes optimization of PC ports and it's good to see that they're continuing that track record.

@alexlyster3459 I see Xbox shifting to more PC pro consumer perspective a positive. Pushing more into what they do best: software. Have a console Xbox experience on whatever and the freedom of buying your games where you want, as the recent interview Phil spoke on such. Sony has already made plans to put their games on more devices as well, just not on the same level and vision as Xbox (publicly stated anyways). Of Playstation, Xbox, and Nintendo; its Playstation I see as the lesser. Big changes are happening and more and more people are moving to handheld devices and PC. Nintendo has it on lock down. Xbox has the vision and money. Sony seems to be trying to hold on to a dying financial concept of the closed ecosystem to keep customers locked in. Very interesting times.
I'm glad Larian are doing something else to be honest and I really look forward to seeing what that is.

@@SirQuantization Same. I game using an 42" LG C2 as a monitor, and the experience is so jarring when there's low FPS. You notice it less when you're on consoles or farther away from the screen, but for PC gaming, I don't know how people handle it. Hell, I almost put down Alan Wake 2 so many times because of how often the game consumes 50% of its framerate for no discernible reason, and that still never dropped below 30, unlike DD2.
@SirQuantization Dragons Dogma 2 is the only exception for me. I find the gameplay fun enough to overshadow the issues and in the open world the fps is generally perfectly fine (them towns tho, sheesh.)

I have used my XBox One for 10 years as a media device. Never really played games on it.
The mtx in Drago's Dogma 2 just flat out should not exist. Full stop, they are pointless and make the game look worse. But I think everyone is blowing them way out of proportion. They function as the equivalent of the red orbs you can buy in DMC5 or the gold tickets in RE4R, as in, if you buy these, you are a moron that wants to play a worse version of the game. Nothing is blocked off from you in Dragon's Dogma, nothing is restricted and they don't interfere with the gameplay. If Capcom really were as greedy as folks say, why aren't they just flat out selling the actual fast travel item; ferrystones (which cost like 10k gold). You can only buy fast travel DESTINATIONS and even then, they limit you in how many you can buy, it's not infinite.
These also existed in DD1, and in basically every big Capcom game since 2018. You can buy Deluxe cheat armor in Monster Hunter World, RE2/3/8 sell "unlock everything cheats" so your first run can be with an infinite rocket launcher or the lightsaber in 8. Re4 has the tickets and DMC4/5 sold red & blue orbs. And there's a bunch of useless avatar mtx costumes for SF6 that are grossly overpriced.
Anyone unconvinced, please just watch someone play for 2 hours and see that the mtx in DD2 are as pointless as every other mtx Capcom has been pushing in their big games for almost a decade. Yes, they should not exist, yes they make the game look awful, but they absolutely should not deter you from at least trying the game and seeing if you like it.
It's also a weird double standard since Infinite Wealth just came out and sells 2 extra classes, costumes, cheat Sujimon, a bunch of materials for Dodonko Island, exp boosters, crafting materials, songs and New Game Plus as DLC. And that's sitting at Very Positive on steam rn. And Lucy was recommended highly on the podcast and a bunch of youtubers did sponsorships for it.

The DD2 hate and misinformation train felt like some of the most blatant engagement farming and rage baiting I've ever seen.
I'm a big fan of Sega's games but their DLC practices for the recent RGG and Atlus games are MILES worse than what DD2 is doing, but everyone seems to give that a pass
The biggest problem with DD2 is Denuvo and how it impacts performance, the cities are some of the coolest I've seen in a game but they run like a slideshow at times on my fairly decent rig
