i got the Apex and feel like I don't need anything else. People say the combo goes really well because you can dial that attack knob for a more "precise" tight switch than the Apex button, but I find the tight switch only occasionally needed anyway. I personally like the low end of low tunings, otherwise why tune low? I actually liked the tone you had before you clicked the PD on in this video.
at least at the beginning of the video. Not sure what happened to the tone later on (~12 mins). Could just be how and what you're playing; certain riffs definitely need more tightness than others. Though, the more I watch, the more I wonder if it's just your initial tone. Drop Ab is a very high tuning in my opinion, it should not sound flubby, and the high end chords you were playing there sound almost "too tight" like as if you're using a lead tone instead of a rhythm tone. I think that's the main issue.
i replaced mine with Plumes and ehx silencer. no regrets. my new setup is now 10x more heavy punchy gritty with total clarity in each strings and note. the precision drive sounded way weaker and looked like a small brother, my new setup being its bigger brother in terms of sound quality, output and character. this new setup convinced some of my friends to sell theirs too.
Using boost pedals into an interface is always a bit of a weird one. You can't increase the volume all that much without clipping the AD?DA converters, so the volume boost portion of the pedal isn't actually achieving much. There's the EQ difference between before and after the pedal, but the volume boost doesn't accomplish much
@@myauramusic I spent the last day trying to get a good sound with the new drivers but it just wont happen, I think Kemper can't deal with high gain tones... My next purchase will be a Suhr reactive load with a real amp...
I'm a plug-and-play kind of guy and I have it's little brother, the Nano Attack. Thing is so essential for any of my low tuned recordings and playing in general. I consider each position of the attack knob to be like presets and each one is useable from fluid solos, chunky KSE rhythms, and of course ultra tight and clear low tuned riffing. EDIT: Fuck yes for I, the Creator and Alpha Wolf riffing!
I played for years, but never had an amp really better than a Peavey Bandit 112 (which was pretty decent to be fair. Eventually, started playing again, got a Randall RG100G3+ 2x12”, and had some good tones with a few pedals but something was missing. It was close but…. not there. Then I grabbed a used PD…. Boom. Instantly the sound I was chasing. Since then I’ve found other sounds I love for different reasons, but the PD was a huge and important tool to add to my rig and I won’t be selling it ever.
Sick tone !! I use a precision drive with tube amps and amp sims .. it just always does the trick !! I’m gonna have to check out that Dover amp sim too. I believe that is a dover inspired sim ?
Hey dude love the channel, have you seen the audiority dr.drive plug-in? it’s a free plug-in based on the precision drive. I would love to see a comparison video between the plug in and pedal. Keep doing what your doing🤘🏻🤘🏻
It doesn't. It's more of an approximation than a faithful representation. FYI, there's a better vst model of the Precision Drive called "Dr. Drive" made by Audiority- and best of all, it's free! Check that one out, it's pretty cool.
Theres a reason they've been out of stock since they dropped it seems like. Bought it used and have it behind a 6 band mxr and then into a mimic mini then into the precision fucking brutal even thru a peavey VIP doesn't leave u wanting for anything for a small practice setup
Nailed it....great overdrive for tone perfectionists and home recording applications, but I still prefer a more simplistic OD, like a Maxon or Forton 33 for live situations, when you have to adjust to your environment, fast and on the fly.
When you do these reviews, keep it simple. Running it through a ton of computer software that most people will never use isn’t overly helpful. Just mic an amp and call it a day.
Thanks for watching! Do you guys have a Precision Drive?
What strings do you use Keyan ? Is Steel the better way to go?

no :o
Yup, and it's a mainstay in my effects chain.
Loved it, thanks dude!
Thanks 🖤 really appreciate it
Just got a brand new one from a shop in canada that had 2 on reverb. Love it
One underrated use of this pedal is that you can get that sort of anime-ish guitar tone with a telecaster by cranking the drive and attack knobs
I've been contemplating picking this up for quite some time now, after watching this video i've decided to pull the trigger! Love your videos man.
I’m glad dude! Tell them I sent ya ;)

Really good review, thanks Keyan! pedal sounds amazing
2:03 woooh, nice riff dude! Tasty! Good job man.
Always loved your playing dude. It would be a dream if you and Andy Cizek collabed. Love your content. Keep it coming!!!

The history of humanity contains several epic moments. I consider this one of them
hahahaha thanks Mario
Only thing tighter than Keyan’s tone in this video is his haircut.
Dudes got a nice cut no lie there
I am so happy that Kemper released the precision drive as a preset! It literally was the change I needed for a tight tone
Tonehub got an update with the added precision drive also........makes everything so much more versatile

Great in-depth demo of this pedal. The tone difference is incredible, thanks for doing this demo. I now have a new pedal on my wishlist :D
I the creator riff was tight 💪
I was very happy after I played it, I knew it was a pretty good take hahaha
I recently bought this pedal and I have to say that it is definitely replacing my maxon od808 for modern metal applications.
Ordered one, came to this video after the fact, now im happy with my purchase. Just the kind of tone shaping I want :)
This is perfect I love seeing all the attack settings in a true modern metal context sounds so good man
So tight. Plus I am totally that Leo DiCaprio meme every time you play a riff I recognise

Great video, thx. The riff starting at 8:32 - is this part of a song or just one of your riffs?
The PD truly is magic in a box.

What's that song at 19:42? Great vid as always.
mix was insane man, great job as always
Misha is a genius and love his custom Jackson USA guitar as well.
Dude your riffs are ducking dirty!!!! Love it
Hi im wondering whats your main noisegate pedal?
Finally dropped! Have watch you use it on Instagram and damn it’s nice 😍
Nice playing man, I like your riffs.
Really informative video mate. Going to get this pedal for sure!
Use it always
8:21 THE ONLY REASON I WANT 7-STRING
I need to try this with my wah as well
I have it, It it is a great pedal. It has a lot of uses. I am surprised you didn't already have it.
Well now I do and it’s never leaving
@@KeyanHoushmandLive Yeah the built in noise gate is the icing on the cake. Great video as always.
I'd petition to get you an interview with Misha. Would love to see that conversation. Pretty much exclusively use the PD sim on my AxeFX!
awesome video! BTW, what is a 7 string gage? How high do you set it above the 12ve fret?
4:15 I too have seen the recent john Browne streams
just had it here, fell in love with it but then had to return it because of an unfortunate emergency
One day it will return

Keyan did a comparison already: ua-cam.com/video/oxGSwgBofvs/v-deo.html
Did you have an issue with ground hum from the power supply? If so how did you eliminate? I use a very similar setup and it's noisy.
Great video! Can I ask what's the gauge for the low string? Thanks.
The Precision Drive to me was a bit too bright. How do you get around the high end edge?
So you're going from you Jackson into the pedal into the Focusrite then the amp sims? I love the Precision Drive too it always has to be on.
is this pedal not recommended if going into a clean amp?
This thing sounds just as good in the Helix as it does in real life, too!
@@0megalul309 Lol, be condescending elsewhere.
Keyan, I know you have covered this before but what does the passive DI do in your chain?
What pickups are you using?
I heard that 12 o’clock on the level is where most ODs max out!
I would buy a plugin version of this pedal. YES I know ToneForge MM has this but i would like a standalone PD plugin. Great video Keyan
What is that technical riff you kept doing? is that you or a band?
What size/brand of strings do you use?
the attack is incredible
Hey Keyan - curious how the Toneforge modelled version holds up to the actual pedal?

love my Boss SD-1 best bang for OD pedal.
I heard the new boss overdrive is fantastic
I know buckethead and zakk wyyld used the original boss overdrive for a long timen
would love to have one
This Is Roman, and I approve this message.
Awesome work my guy 💪🏽
Been wanting this and the flux echo but those are unicorns online lol
bought.
Nice!
Do you put this in your effects loop or in front of the amp?
Front
6:26 Korn sound
You’re too good mate
you get a virtual cookie from me for playing I the creator at 8 mins :)
What do you mean by 6 o'clock of the volume knob? It was actually pointing to 1 o'clock when you said so, did you mean level 6 out of 10?
mine's working fine. for high gain it beats a ts. guaranteed.
You sound bad ass dude! 😂
I never knew you could put pedals in front of an interface like that. 👀
i mean why wouldn’t you be able to? ahah
Wow I have this pedal and I'm really dumb for not using this with my interface 🤦
Hands down this pedal sounds the bees knees!
Geez you must have a monster of a computer to run all those plug ins, and be able to jam with no latency
God man
You definitely need a dirty tree. You can thank me later. 😁😁😁😁🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
*angry Soulhenge noises*
Soulhenge almost scared me away from buying. But I bought it bc djent.
