Hey Robbie 👈 Thanks for the Childhood memories, getting off cut meat from the local Butcher, riding mini bikes from Dam to Dam catching Yabbies, picking Mushrooms and sending Ferrets down Bunny holes catching Underground Mutton and getting 2Bob a pair from the Butcher... Those were the Days!!!!👍👍👍👍
Hoe much simpler was life back then! WOW This modern day era of political correctness does my head in a bit. I am always respectful and do my very best, but I struggle at times and manage to land myself in hot water from time to time. LOL
Nice work mate, I love the meat and string technique! You're right about it being illegal to add a hook, it becomes a fishing set line once you put a hook on it. Great catch on the one that jumped out of the net!!
Robbie, I saw this video, it bought me back to my childhood. Took my daughter and niece out yabbying yesterday, taught them the basics, and they caught 5 really nice yabbys by them self. .cheers mate. Love the channel
Great use for crappy off-cut steak (healthy habits👍) converting it into yummy yabbies. Thanks for reminding us about all the fun we had stringing yabbies. There’s a generation of us that grew up without nets (including scoop nets - that’s fancy) but still caught enough for a Sunday feed in the heat of a summer arvo. A bit of string, stinky meat and a couple of mates and we were catching yabbies and making memories that hadn’t faded. Thanks for sharing Love your work Healthy habits

Definitely one of my favourite videos. I have such great memories of yabbying this way. My dad used to take us all to Caulfield park back in the 70’s; we’d fish for yabbies and he’d kick back in the shade with the paper and a beer. Great video mate.
Great to watch - my mum used to very “technical” when she was yabbying she hated fishing line she raided her sewing basket and used black linen thread and get a needle and sew the thread through the meat Dad would only use rump or blade steak because there is not much fat on that steak - have a great Christmas
Takes me back to growing up in the central west! My brothers and I used to love having our cotton line on a string with our chip scoops while dad had the drop nets out. Always a big competition who could catch the most and whoever got lucky enough to get the sweet spot would be getting 5 or 6 a scoop and shit it in for the day.
I've commented a few times about this but here in Japan they use squid as bait on hand lines. It seems to work well enough. Give it a go against meat and see which catches the most
Hiya mate Well in a word .....SUCCESS..I just love watching these yab hunts , its strangely addictive for me 🤣,I can only imagine what it's like for you.... Thanks rob for another cracking episode.. stay well and safe mate and best regards to you and the family. 😎🇬🇧

Nice work once again. I'm amazed on how well your able to get onto dams. When I was a kid going yabbying with my dad it was hard and in most cases we had to ask the farmers if it was ok to go and try the dams
I laughed at the epic net fail at 5:33! If you had a longer net handle you could reach over and scoop them from the back as they always take off that way if they let go. I used to do this a lot when younger and always found that caught more (I'm sure you know that!). Regardless of the result, it was great fun and that was a good haul!
Hey buddy Jeff here great video once again if I don't comment again before the new year mate you lauretta Skye and holly have a safe and great Xmas and New year love Jeff and Arlene thanks for keeping me smiling
I have never actually used meat and string for yabbies, done it for crayfish, but gee this would make the drop net yabby session a lot more exciting. Great video.
we used to make a scoop out of budgie wire and use cotton thread with a small piece of meat when the timing was right we could fill a 20 ltr bucket in a few hrs
Good on ya pritty cool, when we were kids we did yabbying and crayfishing in small streams like that meat an string but we used a long forked stick to pull the line or string through the fork and a longer handled net to scoop them up, was fun to catch yabs an crays like that.
Hello, I know this is an older video that I previously watched and may have missed this part, but it was amazing how you caught that yabbie in mid-air, well done.
Years ago I married a girl who's parents had a farm near Yass with 8 or 0 dams . I used to catch heaps from some dams & nil from others. I seeded all the non producers with any under size or in berry so all were great , then we got divorced . Bugger I miss those dams !!
I've actually never gone yabbying using that technique. Seems really productive, at least when you do it lol. Hoping to head up the riverina on a property and try it in those dams because those yabbies are MONSTERS. Most of the yabby spots I have around home are 'clawful'
Hahahaha "clawful" OMG 🤣🤣🤣 The biggest yabbies that I ever caught were in a dam in the Riverina near Lake Urana. One of my favourite parts of the world.
Hey buddy, I find farm dams are much better than lakes and river but if that is all you have then that is where you have to go. If the water is clear, nets will be your best option.
Hi mate Though you would be the best person to ask. Recently went yabbying with sone and cough a bunch of huge yabbys. Put the net in place on the bottom within reach and reel the yabbie to and over the net and then just lift. Helps if you extend the handle. Much more fun if you hold the line and wait for “bites”.

Haha a few months ago I was unaware of the no hooks on yabby lines rule so I had a weenie little hook on with a couple of minnows on and a dog came out of nowhere and ran through the line taking the hook with it, the owner ended up getting the hook out though lol.
LOL Stupid dog. haha I'm glad it was a small hook. I THINK it is a rule but would need to check. The owner should have had his dog under control too, not letting it run around swimming where you were yabbying.
