That was awesome, well done mate. That was a massive yabby that you laid beside the can. In order to do a real robbiegishing, you would need to lay it next to a Papsi Max can or an asthma puffer. Haha 😂
Great video mate! a very classic way of yabbying, reminds me of doing it as a young bloke while waiting for the nets to fill up. Bit of a trick too if you tie a big knot or something easily visible to the line near the bait you can use it as a bit of a marker to see how far out your bait is. That big yabbie is an absolute ripper!
this brang back a few memories with my uncle in law, he taught me everything i know about yabbying and he first showed me this before nets. Plus that looks exactly like the spot robbie was fishing at a week or so ago
Great video, Rohan. Enjoyed going back to basics and re-living my childhood at Lake Boort. It's a ripper way to spend an afternoon and a productive way to catch them. Many thanks.
Great video mate! I’m sure that has brought back a lot of childhood memories for many of the viewers. I was speaking to a mate the other day and his grandmother swore by burnt bacon as being the trick to catching the big yabbies. The story goes that she would bait up the nets with the burnt bacon and the frenzy would begin.
That was a great haul of yabbies. I have only ever tried meat on string in dams where it is easy to reach the water and the bank has a slight incline. You did well in that channel to be able to get down with that small net
Thanks so much Brenton. It was harder to reach the water than a dam but I reckon the channel made it a bit easier because it was deep near the edge making it easy to scoop under them
Oldy but a goody! I I think yabbying with mum's uncle back when I was a toddler is what fostered my interest in fishing originally. I still love putting out a piece of wool or string with a bit of meeat on the end.
Thanks Jacob, yeah I used to yabby like that with my Dad when I was a little tacker. It almost makes me feel like a kid again until my old back and knees starting hurting from bending down so much LOL
Merry Christmas mate. Great video! Definitely my favourite method for catching yabbies. A tip for you, tie a bit of stick about 15cm above your bait. It’ll let you know exactly when to net without having to see the bait or spook the yabby. Cheers.
what great vid Rohan, reminded me of being a kid and spending Christmas holidays at Berri Barmera on the Murray and catching yabbies the same way but every one was as big as that monster you just caught. So much fun as a kid but I never liked to eat them, Cheers.
Cheers Daryl, haha yeah it's how my Dad taught me to catch them when I was a kid. The good old days of yabbying aye! I remember coming home with buckets FULL of them lol
LOL 😂 GEE I used to love doing that when I was younger. Watching the line pull tight is exciting My wife taught someone how to go that just recently they had a ball
Haha yeah it was how my Dad taught me to catch them. That's amazing! We should be passing this onto younger generations, it's so much more fun than checking nets
Good job Rohan, I really want to go up to waranga western channel and try catch some yabbies. I hope you enjoyed your feed, keep up the good work buddy
First of all cheers again for making it to my premiere earlier legend 💪 It's pretty hard to beat a good feed of yabbies, yummo. I think i only have 1 maybe 2 yabby video, making me want to do some more 👍 This was how i first learnt to catch yabbies as a kid, if the dam has plenty it's a great way to keep kids entertained... I reckon that's what my mum was upto haha My mum grew up out west so even though she was a single parent, she still took me fishing and taught me how to catch yabbies haha I did end up doing a little bit of fishing with dad later on as well. You ended up with a great feed by the end, i reckon the meat and string almost catches just as much as a trap 👍 Somewhere in the video you mentioned this being more rewarding and i couldn't agree more with that. 👍 MERRY CHRISTMAS 🎄 To you and the family if we don't speak before 🎁
Thanks so much mate, glad I could be there. Yeah that's how my Dad taught me to catch yabbies as well. The thing that helped with the wind is a Windslayer, it's basically just a foam sleeve that fits over the gopro. It works wonders but I reckon the gopro would overheat very quickly on really hot days
My fav Metallica album is ride the lightning ⚡ first proper song i played live at highschool was for whom the bell tolls 😊 great video love the oldschool yabby hunt 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thanks so much Greg, it's the same way I caught them with my Dad when I was a kid! Almost makes me feel like a kid again, until I get home with sore back and knees from doing it all afternoon LOL
Here in Wisconsin we never get anything near as big as some you caught. I’m jealous. If I want them that big I catch them in the freezer section at the grocery store. They’re marked: warm water lobster!😂
hahaha at least you can buy them! The only ones around here that I can buy are tiny ones to use as bait. I reckon I probably would buy them from the stores if they sold them, they are so nice to eat! I'm very lucky to be able to catch my own though you're right
@@RKJFishing Hey Rohan, I bought 2 last week. First time in 20years! I can’t afford them any more often. I had yabbies last nite. Better than lobster.😁
You should definitely give it a go mate! Yes I was just using braided line but you can also use wool or string. Each line was about 1 meter long or a bit longer, but it depends how deep the water is and how far out the yabbies are. In a dam you might need longer line, but I highly recommend checking out the small channels around Echuca that run under the roads
Nice mate I got banned for 24 hours I said something in a comment section don’t think it was bad at all 😅 but anyway nice job brother this was a nice change
Banned from UA-cam?? WOW I've never heard of a temporary ban for a comment before. I'd ask what you said but I don't want you getting banned again LOL. Thanks so much mate, glad you enjoyed.
I'm not familiar with fresh water fishing rules so correct me if you're not allowed. But if you put your bait in a bit of woman's stockings there legs and nippers will get caught on it
Hi Nathan, that's certainly a valid method although they don't really get caught on the stockings, they are quite capable of letting go again. It's more of a technique to help use baits that can't be tied in such as dry dog or cat food - which works a treat by the way
Looking forward to watching this vid, but I’d advise you to wear a hat, skin cancer is no joke and no offence but you don’t have much happening in the way of hair on your head 😂
Hopefully you enjoy it Rocco! Yeah I know I really need to sort out a hat/camera setup that works for me. No offence taken mate lol, I really need to be more careful!
That was awesome, well done mate. That was a massive yabby that you laid beside the can. In order to do a real robbiegishing, you would need to lay it next to a Papsi Max can or an asthma puffer. Haha 😂
Thanks heaps Robbie. Haha true! I didn't have a Pepsi can handy but I could have used my asthma puffer. Oh well maybe next time lol

Hi Rohan.
Enjoyed that video a lot. Looks like you got a good feed there. The biggest one was a bloody monster.

Thanks heaps Alan, haha yeah they don't get much bigger than that!! Cheers

Well done Rohan, now that was a great catch of yabbies and good size . I enjoyed watching that style of yabbying. Definitely in for a good feed.
