    Great video mate.
    The absolute best part of this video is where you pick up the rubbish and make it clear it’s not cool.

    Sometimes if the stretch of water you're shrimping in doesn't have those areas of vegetation in the shallows, a few handfuls of gumleaves and twigs in the net works wonders! I'm finding that the shrimp are starting to nibble on my corn bait when I'm fishing for carp recently, I might have to try a net with corn in it as well. Love your work mate keep it up

      Hmm RKJ. Shrimp have saved my bacon a lot across my earlier years and I actually like em for a feed for myself on occasions too. I've never thought about making the internals of the trap a bit more shrimp friendly and homely with some leaves and twigs. Makes a lot of sense, thanks for the tip, first time I've heard of it.

      @@CalaisRider it can definitely make a difference in areas where you don't usually catch many! In areas where you catch heaps, sometimes you don't even need bait, the gumleaves and twigs are enough. Happy to help buddy

    I keep my shrimp in a 2 foot fish tank. About 100 or so with a filter pump to keep them clean and pump air into the tank. Also, i keep about 15 yabbies in another 2 foot tank with a filter so that I can always have fresh live bait. I've got a pond as well, with some spangled perch, some little rainbow fish, guppies, and some goldfish, and I even ha e an eel tail catfish in there and I usually chuck a fee small shrimp and yabbies in there for the fish to eat as well as feeding them worms and fish food pellets.
    Love your videos, mate. I li e in southeast Queensland, so we don't really get carp or red fin up here but plenty of yellow belly, catfish, and bass and small spangled perch and silver perch. Heaps of shrimp up here, though. Usually, go down once or twice a week to get shrimp for bait. Plus, they make a great addition to my cold, fresh water tanks.

    I catch heap of the long arm freshwater shrimp down at the creek 15 minutes from home. I always go down at night with my fishing net and scoop them up. Usually, I come home with 100 or so. I'm going to head down tonight to get some more decent size ones so me and my old man can go yellow belly fishing tomorrow night. I've been catching yellow at around 8 pm at the creek lately.

    As a kid I visited a property on the Dumaresq River near Texas, QLD. We used tin cans with holes punched in the bottom and a piece of rabbit flesh wired to the inside bottom. Put on a string the cans were placed in the river. This was at Xmas school holidays. Plenty of large shrimp. Boiled in salted water and peeled and eaten on fresh bread.

      robbiefishing I imagine it’d be similar effect to that of yabbies, since yabbie shell consists of calcium. I wouldn’t take my word for it without doing more research. But I believe in small amounts it should be fine as long as it’s not too much, because to much calcium can be dangerous and cause deformities, Satan should be alright though

    Interesting about the ph change in a tank. I've never witnessed it. Maybe because my tank was well buffered. A couple of years ago I had a 3 ft tank stocked with shrimp and western carp gudgeons. Heaps of them and the tank was very healthy. It's amazing how the shrimp turn crystal clear with beautiful camouflage patterns when put in clean water. And the gudgeons get vivid blue or pink coloring on their dorsal fins depending on sex.
    I'd say the ph change is due to dead shrimp more than anything. They are not easy to keep alive.

    • @levihancox1996
      @levihancox1996 Рік тому

      Definitely not easy to keep alive but I've worked out if I just do like 60 percent water change once every 2 weeks they seem to stay alive. I also love the cool clear colours they turn in the clean water. I have rock and drift wood and water plants in my shrimp tank and they seem to love it. I do a similar set up for my yabbie tank but I give them lots of hiding holes and things to climb on.

    another quality useful video. I have found that when baiting the nets there is a heap of different types, tea leaves or fresh gum leaves work. Fresh dirt with rotting vegetation also works. Frozen blood worms. Around Hamilton way there are shrimp but are rather small but I also catch southern pygmy perch by the bucket load in some of the creeks which are good perch bait. I think the shrimp are attracted to the net as a good place to hid rather than to feed. Also Rob, why didn't you wet a line whilst waiting for the shrimp!?

      robbiefishing Yeah just use any dry dog food. If you have a dog whatever you feed him/her would work fine. 👍🏻

    Robbie I think that you are putting the shrimp nets to far out. You should put them closer to the bank. Just a quick tip.

    • @robbiefishing
      @robbiefishing  6 років тому

      Hey mate I usually put them closer to the edge after dark. In clear water I find they tend to either be a bit deeper or hard up close against greasy and weeds during the day. But you are spot on, closer is better.

    • @robbiefishing
      @robbiefishing  6 років тому

      Hi mate these bait traps are fine. It is the opera house nets that are illegal. That's in Victoria anyway. I dont know about other states.

    You hook a live shrimp in the ridge on its head ,is that right Robbie? How would you hook a yabbie? I make the mistake of hooking the yabbie in the tail so that the tail is curled underneath it. Not a very good presentation. Is there a better way to do it?

    • @robbiefishing
      @robbiefishing  6 років тому +1

      Gday Phillip, I only ever hook them through the tail mate, both yabbies and shrimp.
