The Fermi Paradox
www.seti.org/seti-institute/pr...
"Is there obvious proof that we could be alone in the Galaxy? Enrico Fermi thought so -- and he was a pretty smart guy. Might he have been right? It's been a hundred years since Fermi, an icon of physics, was born (and nearly a half-century since he died). He's best remembered for building a working atomic reactor in a squash court. But in 1950, Fermi made a seemingly innocuous lunchtime remark that has caught and held the attention of every SETI researcher since."
The Great Filter- Are We Almost Past It?
mason.gmu.edu/~rhanson/greatfi...
"Humanity seems to have a bright future, i.e., a non-trivial chance of expanding to fill the universe with lasting life. But the fact that space near us seems dead now tells us that any given piece of dead matter faces an astronomically low chance of begating such a future. There thus exists a great filter between death and expanding lasting life, and humanity faces the ominous question: how far along this filter are we?"

Because we're their zoo. Don't disturb the animals.
mind blown
Could be true
+Shubham Singh : Exactly.
+SlowDude it makes sense dont touch developing races
Hug me
Why haven't they found us? They have. But they were looking for intelligent life.
What is your f****ng problem dont you think we are smart you moron
aliens think we're aliens
we are aliens
we are aliens
Clorox Bleach yes
you dont say..
ABC NEWS mind blown
Or maybe They Saw WW1 and WW2 and said yeah nah f that.
Kkane Playz most underrated comments
Most underated reply
Kkane Playz haha 😂 that's the best man that is probably what happened lol
Aliens exist though
The universe is far too large for there not to be other life forms.
Your logic make sens.
lol
+Leviana Rios shut up
I feel the same way. How can there be billions of known planets and almost infinite unknown planets with no life. How can we be the only example
+Ixissimus Cause Bible says so..
They could have already. They just don't deal with our stupidity
100%. ^^^^
Yes true... Many of us are beyond idiocy, but they're might not interesting in us. They're might be 1 million beyond our intelligence.
+Manuel Benitez I think so to, what would any alien race gain by making contact with a VERY uncivilized race that can't even traverse space yet? i think it is just logical NOT to initiate "friendly" connections with such a race, and i am sure humanity, if we ever reach so far, will come to the same conclusion: Do not disturb immature alien races and only initiate contact when they have at least mastered space travel.
+Rahman We are animals Faceplam
You say that like you're a 100% sure they exist...
Just look at this analogy. We're aware of ants and their whereabouts and their activities... but are they aware of us? No. Do we care about their well-being or state of affairs? Not unless you're an ant farm hobbyist. So in a way, maybe we're somebody's ant farm. Or just plain insignificant to higher-evolved races.
And who's to say they're not here already? Maybe we're just not aware. Maybe they exist in another frequency where our senses can't access.
Wow, thats a great analogy
call me crazy but I think that we are an experiment of aliens
I don't care that I have a small ass
That's not crazy. It's a plausible theory.
Patriot Jefferson
I subscribe to that plausibility as well! Well said.
thanks to write this i was too lazy to write this. hiq do i like
The ones that find us and see what we're like is probably all like "woah fuck them"
I'd hear what they'd have to say. I've observed the effects myself over the past 10 years.
The ThinSin I wouldn't be surprised
If they come...Xcom 2 has trained me!!!
+Eddie Anthony the game came out days ago, wow you're fast.
+Eddie Anthony Same here! Let's light up those X-Rays!
+Quazi Irtiza 11 days ago. But just because a game came out doesn't mean that we will forget UA-cam.
+Tengu Siv It's a tactical and strategic game.
+Eddie Anthony Trained you to know that's it's absolutely hopeless.
... and no one noticed my "i'm not like the otters" shirt. Sad day.
Ha!
+Julia Wilde I did notice it, but your hair was in the way and I thought it said " I'm hot like the others" LoL
I admit you are hot, but damn girl, have a little modesty.
+Julia Wilde This can't be Julia... It's a fake account!? :o
+Julia Wilde My girlfriend was watching me so I had to maintain eye contact.
Perhaps if both were combined the world would be a better place.
I wish I was born about 100 years later than I was to see the technological advancements. Why knows what's to come in the future
100 years? We wont make it 100 months if we keep going like we are now.
If that's the case, invest in a Vault Suit now.
they said the same thing 100 years ago...
Sexy beast no they didnt lol
of course they did
How about: A galaxy colonizing civilization would have colonized every habitable planet pretty quickly and any planet they colonize would never develop its own intelligent life. therefore there are no aliens for us to see because if there where we wouldn't be here to see them.
Hey Cody!
I personally think intelligent life extinction is so common that all or hardly any forms of intelligent life have or will tame interstellar travel.
+Cody'sLab : You're forgetting the possibility that they might just have started colonizing, aka are still in the process, and their territory border just hasn't reached us yet. Even if you have access to faster-than-light travel, colonizing an entire galaxy would take a loooooong time just because of the huge amount of planets in our galaxy and the amount of ressources and people you'd need for such a project.
The problem is our bones go to shittt when we are in space longer so the robots will be the colonizing for us humans in future.
The infinite size of the universe is what is keeping us from discovering aliens
Maybe they see dinosaurs through there telescopes and they dont wanna waste their times on a planet that does not have intelligent life? Btw they see dinosaurs because the light has not reached theire planet (sorry bad english)
+Furkan Karasahin +RISESOUT That's actually really interesting. You could also see it this way. Perhaps we will ones find simple alien life somewhere, for example some worms or something like that. But because of the light having to travel so far before it reaches our telescopes, they might have already evolved way further. In that case they could be more intelligent than us, while we only see the worms they used to be. Creepy.
+RISESOUT but the aliens would know that they're looking in the past and not the present. They would be very curious if they found a planet with rich life like ours
RISESOUT Yeah we coul get a message sent milions of years ago.
RISESOUT Nobody knows... that's the thing about :D
The dinosaurs existed 100ish million years ago, that would mean that those aliens that are seeing dinosaurs are 100 million light years away. I don't think they would even consider going here due to the vast distance between us
Why haven't aliens found us yet? The universe is fucking massive, it's like finding a plastic piece of hay in a haystack the size of our solar system.
+john smith will help
+GeekVasion will smith will help
WE NEED MORE HELP!
Give me 40 years
Simple, get the cow that jumped over the moon to eat all the hay, but he wont eat the plastic hay.
Maybe they were going to say hi in the 80s and 90s but when we hit 2000 they were all like: "I ain't touching that shit."
Alien life probably does exist, maybe it is common, if we are talking about basic single cell organisms, yea it's very possible that they could exist. If we are talking about fully developed organisms, chances are they are stupidly rare, and if we are talking about intelligent life forms out there, then chances are we aren't going to find them. It's like finding a pin in a never ending haystack.
The title assumes that we can be certain aliens haven't found us. How have we arrived at such certainty?
Galad Dirie
How does the universe being huge make us certain that aliens have not found us?
Maybe they have, right?
That moment when your very question is addressed in the video but your too focused on the title
You know how many secrets the government hide?
+Geoff Stockton Well, within the fermi paradox, the question is why have we not seen aliens, not have aliens found us. We can say with relative certainty that we have not found aliens, and that is all it tries to address.
neeneko
If you assume that the entire human race is privy to that sort of info, then yeah, sure.
Maybe we are their grand experiment or even their version of reality TV, only thousand times worse then Jersey Shore.
Cheers to my fellow petri dish germs.
+Grizzly Melon south park did a episode of that as well
+Shaku Maku I think the episode he is referring to is "Cancelled", the first episode of the seventh season.
Southpark
Truman Show.
+AsianInvasion i was just going to say that.
I actually like the idea of us being in a preserved zone. We don't deserve it, but that sounds like an interesting idea.
I think one of the strongest answers to the Fermi Paradox is that the time between discovering radio waves (for communication) and atomic weapons is so close that civilizations rise up, broadcast for a bit (WOW signal etc) and then wipe themselves out in nuclear war. Since evolution tends to be about competition, this makes a lot of sense.
If the universe is infinite, life has to be infinite.
The universe is finite.
JeyJeyKing1
We don't know.
+JeyJeyKing1 Well no one knows for sure, it should be finite but then what happens when you go over the edge?
+Hendlton there wouldnt be an edge, just like the earth dosnt have an edge.
+Justanamebro you don't know. Scientists know for the fact that the universe is finite and we are the very first life forms in it. Go back to school, kid.
Aliens will take one look at Ben Carson and determine there is no intelligent life on earth.
And Trump
+Two-Face and every 10 year old in this UA-cam comment section.
+sam guy Why would they judge Human's intelligence from 10 year olds?
or Kent hovid
+Darth Metal Jar Jar Ignorant statement. You don't know the intelligence of the individual you attacked.
Oh they've found us, they just saw us and "Oh well f*ck that." I mean seriously, how many of you look around and shake your head at humanity?
Why do we always assume that other life will be the ones that find us, do we assume that they're the ones that have already discovered interstellar travel ? What if we were the intelligent ones in the universe ? Why don't we make it our job to find them ?
Noah Tomkins when humans have the power to travel in space, we would most likely attack other creatures on different planets for their resources.
No we won't Humans aren't as violent anymore and are becoming a lot more nicer in general I mean the majority of countries have banned the death penalty we got the united Nations and most developed countries have welfare programs to help the poor and humans are an altruistic species as well so unless the aliens are extremely alien then I'm sure well empathize with them and there will be activists and protests to defend any indigenous species NASA already makes sure rovers are as clean as possible so they don't contaminate the Martian environment and any organisms living there.
We are too busy destroying each other bruh.
Plot twist: Men in black is a documentary
WHAT A TWIST!!!!!
+Two-Face this is a bigger twist than the BioShock series
plot twist- my dick's is a twist call the ambulance
+Flo basst scho Actually that has been pretty much confirmed by the ex president of Russia. Not that big of a twist...
No the Covenant should not find us or they will destroy us.
+Rookiepro4 yeah and then we will sick the master cheif on their asses
They would've won the war if it wasn't for the flood and the covenant civil war
Master chief will save us :D
The covenant wont find us until 2525 we'll be fine
No worries, I got it covered rookie ;)
I've actually thought about this a lot over the last few years, and one of the coolest ideas/theories I have is this: An inter-galactic Space council for the Milky Way would probably have a rule about interfering with a species before they are fully capable of interstellar space flight, hence the silence. Who's to say that when we discover new innovative ways to travel beyond our solar system that we wont find such an alliance ready to welcome us with open arms? Just something nifty to think about. Here on Earth, we have laws about interfering with indigenous tribes on their land, maybe this holds true on a large-scale example; the Milky Way Council. Anyways, that's just the Captain Kurk inside of me talking, but still. Cool idea, right? :D
Great channel, just found it happy days
Aliens will not visit us because they have seen our TV shows.
+ManDryver
Earth Shows Suck Mostly
Aliens Should Watch Steven Universe.... Its Got Some Creative Alien Themes In It
+Kyle Fielding looks like Steven Universe is much more accurate in depicting Alien Technology.
More specifically Bollywood and Indian TV shows
and they saw miley cryus twerking and said No.
why would aliens wanna mess with us? they're probably equally as scared of us as we are to them
eh..
Or, they don't want to mess with us because we're a stupid race.
+Brimstone We're not though. I can't stand people like you always putting the human race down. We've done some of the most amazing things. Yes some humans are bad but don't think that all are stuwped and duum.
+Dc vs Marvel Stupid things like what? Killing off animals and people in other countries? Terrorists beheading people everyday? Corrupt presidents and world leaders? People like Hitler? Racism? Yeah, we're...amazing people.
+Brimstone well we have to wait for evolution 2 happend
As Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes once said, "Sometimes I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us"
I like that last theory about the protective zone... Never hear that one before. chilling irony.
Aliens live in our Oceans...
Jellyfish
+Cpt AweSome Patrick Star🌟
+Cpt AweSome i just love when i find people with that stormtropper picture
+chimpalahee Then they're not aliens.
Spongebob is an alien?
two words "Prime Directive" thats why.
+HighmageDerin Live long and prosper
Health and long life
I think they are waiting for IPv6 to be completely implemented here on Earth because the number of civilizations wanting to communicate with us is so high that they are not allowed to join until there is an IP address for each civilization, and NAT is not allowed on the grand scale of intergalactic net ;)
one of these days aliens are gonna respond to our calls and tell us to shut up
Meh, I am not so sure if I want aliens to find us tbh. I feel kinda cozy on earth, and I want it to stay that way.
Aliens are stuck just like us, they probably don't have means of travel the universe. So we will never meet each other.
+Anders Persson we haven't even colonized our entire planet, you are over reaching. Without means of transportation, how would colonizing even be possible? Aliens are a form of life, so they will also need to find suitable planets, and if we haven't found one that is suitable for humans, what makes you think aliens have found one for them?
I stick with my theory, that all forms of life are pretty much stuck to their own system, cuz space traveling is kind of a bitch.
+Anders Persson The Milky Way is only 100,000 light years in diameter, the universe is far larger "the sphere appears almost 28 billion light-years in diameter, it is far larger" www.space.com/24073-how-big-is-the-universe.html That is only the observable universe. Meaning even if they have found a way to travel around in the universe and colonized other planets we will have a extremely difficult time trying to find them, especially when we see the world as it was X amount of years ago.
We even have the technology for interstellar travel right now. All depends on money and politics.
+squalltheonly radiowaves should still be coming off any nearby worlds.
Link DaHero If you combined project Orion with hydrogen bombs, you could create a spacecraft that would reach 10% the speed of light. Making the time to Alpha Centauri only 44 years. This tech exists, the problem is that such craft would cost over a trillion dollars.
I don't know if there's life out there but I love your voice...
The aliens haven't found us for the same reason I haven't hit the powerball yet! The odds are hugely against it...
what if our ancestors are the real aliens? they just colonized this earth.. 😂🤔
Interesting , Theory 🤔Wolf Boy, with Eagle Wings 😉
You might be a primate, but I'm not.
+Orange Soda Good thing i'm not a primate, good luck to that.
*****
I understand you clearly.
You know what? You're right! What does race have to do with anything? The only thing that matters is hard evidence, facts and no "factual" theories. I highly disagree, personally, to have evolution from a darwinian standpoint be put on ME because it's 1) a theory 2) Scientists still pushing it as a "fact" 3) If Evo scientists were to accept design as the only hard evidence they see then they would be labled as Biblical Creationists by the Evo community.
FUckin BUULshit!
The aliens are laughing at us and do not want to communicate.
Maybe,hahahaha XD
+Random Person on the Internet We are a massive reality TV show for entertainment purposes.
this channel is awesome
Life has always been out there. We’re just not ready.
tell that to the secret area 51 footage I found in my attic
wut
Knock, knock? Who's there? Covert hit squad. Covert hit squad who.......aaaaaarrrrrgggghhhhh................
I'm pretty sure they found us already.
We are right here on UA-cam observing your development into a Type 1 civilization.
We could just be too far away from each other to ever conceivably exist at the same time.
A lot of people think there's more advanced life out there but i think that's just humans' natural insecurity. I think we're actually the advanced species and if theres life out there, it's very basic wildlife like plants and squirrels and stuff.
Anthony Curnow So your saying out of all the galaxies, stars etc there aren't more advanced life
actually as for human natural insecurity goes it would be more reasonable to suggest what you said or that there is no such thing..the question is there came out of curiosity not insecurity.
If there were other galaxys or universes there might be entirely new elements So the aliens could have far superior technology then us
Wow I've never been so early
Tbh... I'd be kind of scared meeting an alien, I wouldn't know what to say or do.
Aliens, Please touch us.
She cna touch me
Because we are playing seek and hide
+Alberto Humova you fucked up T-T
+Temp Temp I don't understand
+Thebloodage "Alberto you fucked up T-T " What T-T mean?
+Temp Temp Big deal . You think I didn't noticed it? People make small mistakes like that, time to time, when trying to express an idea, and my idea was there, the proof is that you understood and you can't deny it. And what this have to do with "you got one job" ?
Because the way we treat each other
Aliens wouldn't care
What if, because of the filters, we're the first intelligent species to make it this far?
It would suck if billions of years ago there was a huge galactic empire and they all died out before we were evolved and we just missed it all.
Julia, one of your initial statements was that "probability tells us that there should be millions of..." Do you have a sample to base that probability on? I think probability tells us that there are no other civilizations since no other one has been observed.
Really vast spaces, relatively primitive observatory tools and having to be using RF for communication at the right time for the signals to be reaching us now.
"You couldn't even live harmoniously with your own kind, how would we?"
-Aliens
Bad at reading the signs like: protecting the Earth, and working together
Today we are looking up in the sky, searching for patterns in radio-frequency thinking that this is the way to go. However, this basic method of communication is only useful to do a "ping" notification (or basically to wave your hand and tell that... someone is there!). Once you want to start a more useful communication, you then need to add some compression techniques. Then, when you compress data, the signal will look completely random. Then, knowing how big the sky is, when looking out there, if a compressed communication is there, the signal will be flag as "noise"...
Please explain the WOW signal and all the UFO sightings videos?
"I´m not like the otters" LOL
The last filter isn't a gamma ray burst or gigantic rock hurdling towards us.
It's ourselves
I got a theory. What if all the advanced alien civilizations discovered the use of time travel and perfected it in such a way that they all traveled back in time to give themselves more time to evolve. This would create an entirely different timeline rendering ours a wasteland. Now all that remains are class 1 civilizations who haven't even perfected space travel yet, we're just latecomers to the galaxy.
Given how much time has passed since the universe came to be, and how much time it took for anything after that to even happen, I'd say we're either the first guests to arrive at the party, or we're a bit late due to the other guests being wiped out by some chaos or they may have gone too far away to make any contact. And I'm just referring to intelligent life, since there's the possibility that life may exist somewhere out there but it's no smarter than your average Kuala.
I could watch her talk about aliens all day
Its a multiverse full of possibilities but maybe sometimes the simplest theory is the correct one.
Well they did they just read UA-cam comments
Maybe they don't want to contact us, until we GROW UP!
I personally prefer the solution that the metallicity of the galaxy wasn't high enough to support an earth-like planet until about when Sol formed. That means that we would be one of the first life bearing planets but not the only one.
The zoo hypothesis doesn't really work because there is no stealth in space. The only way to do that would be to build a giant shell around the solar system with projectors on the inside that simulate an empty universe and that would be insanly difficult to build, both in materials and technology.
Some theories say that we're one of the first species to evolve, and that other species are just not advanced like us, and we will be the ones to go to other planets
Anyone else feel scared when she said "That means we are approaching the filter and odds are we will destroy ourselves before we become interstellar"? just the thought that the extremely rare occurrences that allowed Earth and humans to reach where they are today could be completely destroyed...
has the 'proteins from meteorites origin of life on earth' theory been thrown out the window? always thought it was quite nice being the aliens.
They are here. One hovered over our house for at least ten minutes back in 1978, in Indiana.
"our planet is only 4.5 billion years old" and only in the past 60-80 years we've had access to space
Maybe they feel we are just not ready.
They probably do a fly-by, analyse the surface inhabitants, and decide that it ain't worth landing.
The aliens probably just took one look at our planet and were like "screw this i'm out"
i think we don't detect them because
1. they are forbidden to interact with prewarp civilizations
2. their communications don't use the same kind of transmitter as us, because the transmissions are too slow.
I need someone like you in my life. :(
Aliens that found us could be following a Prime Directive
we have been weighed we have been measured and we have been found unworthy.
If the universe really is that big then we can't be alone
I think the explanation is more simple than most tend to believe. Sheer distance. Earth is just a little terrestrial planet in the solar system, and the solar system is just a little crumb in the galaxy, which is also just a little piece of dirt in the universe. Most stars are hundreds of light years away, if not thousands. Presuming alien aircraft can even fly the speed of light, it's no wonder that we haven't been visited.
I like to imagine that our galaxy is full of life but we are just not smart enough to detect it yet
My idea is its like Star Wars other life forms have a "council" and you are not allowed to communicate with life forms unless they've evolved past a certain point.
what if there is an interstellar treaty that states they can not talk to undeveloped worlds until they reach space travel on their own
it's possible that their is some kind of ruler that is stopping alien from contacting us.
Not just the fact that reaching an intelligent state of life is INJCREDIBLY rare, but when that rare chance occurs, they only last for a short amount of time. Look at us. Earth has been around for a long time, but life on earth has been around for only a relatively very limited time, and humans have been around even scarcer. And even in the time humans have been around, we've been mostly primitive, or, at least, not very technologically advanced. We haven't even began looking for other life extensively until the last century, and look at us now, pretty much on the verge of wiping ourselves out in nuclear war. The time frame for which aliens would had to have looked at us would be 1 second in a year.
they'd probably be "seriously? they're still using nintendo switches?"
we are among you. we are you. you are we.
They probably have found us already but they're just testing us to see if we can find them
haha awesome prank call man!
You don't hurt us and we won't hurt you.
Aliens don't come and help us with our problems for the same reason that Tourists in savanna don't help zebra when it is being chased by a lion. They are smart enough to let us figure out our own way.
It's pretty easy when you think about it. When we use telescopes, even those like Hubble, we aren't exactly seeing whatever were looking at, be it a planet etc, in its current time. When you look up at the sun, you're seeing what it looked like eight minutes ago. Now apply that to something light years away. Yeah.
Does anyone ever think that the "aliens" might be on their computers right now asking the same questions we are asking?
another thing to consider is how short a time period for two civilizations across the universe would have to get in touch with each other. i mean our universe is what, 14 -15 billion years? maybe for millions of years there have been a bunch of planets with life. yet died out millions of years ago.
