You’re the only watch journalist/influencer who has said that you don’t like the small watch trend. Everyone else is fanning the flames, begging for smaller watches. I agree with you, large watches, bold dials, easy to read, great wrist presence, that’s why I appreciate watches.
It was always a matter of time before it became fashionable again. And eventually it will cycle out again. I'm a fan of full sized watches and can't pretend otherwise. Whether my wrist was small when I was younger or large like it is today, I've always thought large watches are the best
Bruce, thank you for your video. I was on the fence about this watch and another more expensive one but your video pushed me over on the Seiko side. I have a birthday coming up in Nov so this is a gift to me from me. Thank you,Terry
It's an absolute bargain I don't care that it's solar, I'm not snobby about how a watch is powered - if I like it, I like it, see the positives zero maintenance and accuracy , it's a win win. I have owned many luxury watches and I think this speedtimer along with likes of the alpinist represents Seiko at its best, I love many of the other colours too, alas in rip off UK they are currently £720 pounds so at least 800 plus dollars , so I'll be patient as there's still a bit of hype around these at the moment - you'll get a discount if you ask now but I'm happy to wait til the post Christmas sales and see if there's any significant reductions then. Great review.
I almost passed this watch by. The dial looked really small in the display case, but this video encouraged a second look. On wrist it is perfect! (Beware however: I removed ZERO links on a 7.75 wrist, so any larger and the bracelet is a no-go.) Lume is brilliant Btw -- lasts all night which is unheard of for a chrono.
Thank you. All these micro brands fighting for the best specs but almost none have the design and charm of Seiko! I just wish they had better bracelets/clasps!
@brucewilliams Bruce, are you saying that you think the Speedtimer is too small? I love the look of it but have an 8" wrist and prefer 43-45mm watches.
I'm sorry but I agree with Seiko on the price hikes. They need to market themselves above the onslaught of micro brands crap market between $150 and $500 innundating your FB and Instagram feeds. They are absolutely at the correct price point.
I have an original Pogue and the "Pogue-ish" limited edition reissue from a couple years ago. I will reluctantly pass on this, waiting for an automatic version with a cushion case.
I miss the days when I used to recommend seiko as the best bang for buck watch under $500. Too bad the price increases make micro brands a better value proposition. What’s ironic is they even use seiko movements .
I like Seiko generally but I have noticed poor quality control with their mechanical watches. I have the smaller sized speedtimer with a black dial. It's a great quality watch with finally a sapphire crystal instead of the hardlex which I'm not a fan of. Also the sweeping chronograph second hand is fantastic.
When I was a kid my dad wore a Seiko. He thought Seiko was the best watch and the only one you need to consider. All else was a waste of money.... I um... well don't exactly agree😅😅😅
I am a SEIKO Fan too but the way to have their great watches made in china while some of lower models are made in Japan is just a Bummer. They should have kept their good watches fully made in Japan rather than what they did right now where they increased their prices but have their cases and bracelets Made in China and some fully Made in China. It sucks. I actually stopped buying Seiko Watches due to this. Look at their replacement SKX especially with the new gmt that is Made in China. Not a racist here but it defeats the purpose of buying the great Japanese Brand and when you look at the back you see Made in China
Retails for $1100 here in a Australia , I can buy a serviced 1970's original for $800. Bang for buck is not there any more. A glorified Seiko 5 with a non mechanical movement is not worth $1000+. I love Seiko, love the designs and can't buy as many as I want because of needless greed by Seiko.
Some Seiko models have better value than others. For the $1000+ Seiko's they are not discounted like they once were. This is likely because Seiko has changed its sales model to now include brick and mortar retail boutiques around the world adding about 30% to the price. So these watches will not go down in price
I disagree - I have this watch and think it good value. But I also have two Uemuras (grey and blue) and they are more expensive but still not overpriced given the Grand Seiko movement - so I think Seikos are still great value.
Hate that Seiko is using the pogue color scheme with almost none of the same design language or value. Clearly a money play on the color scheme. Same with the Panda Daytona homage. It’s just seiko throwing a famous color scheme on meh design. Seiko’s lineup pre-covid was epic. Seiko in the last 5 years is straight trash. If you’re going to spend that kind of money, it’s better to go Tissot or micro brand like Baltic. Seiko needs to return to their value prop strategy. As for now, they’ve lost a customer. -prior Seiko fanboy
But.. as a "Tip Of The Hat" to the legendary 6139, column wheel chronograph of the seventies, this cheap looking, quartz pastiche, is an abject failure!

Bought a SSC915P (Coke) version a few months ago for half price, it’s a great watch and an absolute bargain.
He has a big meaty wrist though haha
Love this watch. Seiko is still so fun and exciting to me. I wear mine very often. Great review.
I love it man, im gonna be buying one of these myself! Love that white face mechanical speedtimer, its lovely!
Lovely looking watch. Getting one delivered tomorrow. Hope I can get a good fit on the bracelet 😃
Bruce, thank you for your video. I was on the fence about this watch and another more expensive one but your video pushed me over on the Seiko side. I have a birthday coming up in Nov so this is a gift to me from me. Thank you,Terry
Just picked up one from the local AD, l'm enjoying this watch. I just added it to the rotation!
Excellent
I have the SSC911 and love it, but this colorway is killer!!!
I totally agree with your opinion about Seiko ✌
I just received mine from Mimo in long beach California, I agree with you, this is a great watch.
Mine is from Mimo, too. Good prices on Seiko.
My first "quality watch" was a 1971 Pogue. I'm 71 now, and although that watch was stolen, it was always my favorite.
I got my Pogue in 1974. Still working as well as ever.
Hi Bruce. I'm not a solar watch fan. But this one is stunning. 👌
Just got one. Really like it. Great value.

Aluminum bezels for the win!!
Just got my today 🎉😂❤❤in love with it
I really like the colors and your enthusiasm for this one. Have you seen the plain yellow dial version of this one? If so, what are your thoughts?
I wish Seiko had reserved the Pogue color way for the vintage case shape.
I hope they put it in the mechanical version of the speed timer
@@BruceWilliamsI completely agree, this should be a an automatic mechanical watch, that’s the only thing putting me off.
Thank you. All these micro brands fighting for the best specs but almost none have the design and charm of Seiko! I just wish they had better bracelets/clasps!
Well said!
@brucewilliams Bruce, are you saying that you think the Speedtimer is too small? I love the look of it but have an 8" wrist and prefer 43-45mm watches.
Pogue colours are great
I have the panda dial version. One of the favorite watches in my collection
Yes, a watch for Seikopaths... 😅
...but sincerely great ! 😉👍
Maybe a little bit too high price if you compare to Citizen, 400-500$ could be better.
You are comparing this watch to a watch with zero history.
Totally agree buddy. I'm an old school Seikoholic
As someone who was a 6 1/4 inch wrist, it is a right size fad rather than a small watch fad.
They have a 39 mm version. I have one and I love it
Same here
You had me at "brand-wagon"! (But I'd still rather buy an automatic movement SRQ off eBay for around $1600!)
I’d be curious to see you review the Seiko automatic chronograph
Coming within a couple weeks
I'm sorry but I agree with Seiko on the price hikes. They need to market themselves above the onslaught of micro brands crap market between $150 and $500 innundating your FB and Instagram feeds. They are absolutely at the correct price point.
Seiko still have great original designs and ultimately most people purchase on sale or used and get a great price.
Superb value and a great watch. Large watches were in, were out, and will be back again. Trends always recycle.
I have an original Pogue and the "Pogue-ish" limited edition reissue from a couple years ago. I will reluctantly pass on this, waiting for an automatic version with a cushion case.

I prefer small watches (sorry!), but the 41mm Speedtimer has a better design and dial colors than the 39mm version.
Without the cushion case, and with the black solar collectors, it’s a no for me.
Wait, what? Nothing about Tudor? I don't believe it!
Don't you worry, I've got some special Tudor content coming just for you.
Timex is the best value now
I disagree - I have this watch and think it good value. But I also have two Uemuras (grey and blue) and they are more expensive but still not overpriced given the Grand Seiko movement - so I think Seikos are still great value.
A lot of ham wristers in this thread 😂
Still made new??
“Small watch fad” 🙄 I’d say they are normal sized watches. Watches have gotten bigger over the years because human beings have gotten bigger…
Precisely
I think this watch will help me find a wife at nightclub
Great value ? Not likely....for the asking price....and for quartz, even though it's solar.
Seiko still great value and products....it's called inflation, all the brands have gone up....except Chinese junk.
Micro brands with Seiko movements...
Can it be NATO’d?

We normally agree Tyler but not here lol
Tudor rules buuhs braa
There are many other Seikos with much better value. This is a rather pricey solar quartz watch.
But.. as a "Tip Of The Hat" to the legendary 6139, column wheel chronograph of the seventies, this cheap looking, quartz pastiche, is an abject failure!
Too big…
Lol it's only 41mm.
@ 38mm is the sweet spot for me
