I really like this one Dennis. It looks like it might have an AR override right behind ghe rotor on the bottom side. The Pflueger President has been around for quite a while now. I don’t think this is a Pure Fishing President model which would make it even more desirable as far as I’m concerned. I haven’t had a lot of luck finding schematics for Pflueger reels. I like that transition gear. I have several vintage Ryobi Powerful reels made bake in the 1970sbthat also have the same transition gear engineering in them, I run a cotton swab through the pinion when I clean a reel for the first time. That spring that makes the AR override operate is exactly the reason I would buy this reel! It is a well designed reel that’s for sure. I have two Okuma reels that use this override system and I like them a lot! Very nice video of a superb Pflueger President spinning reel! - Chris
This one is definitely Pure Fishing and yes, that is an A/R over-ride. You would not like servicing this one Chris. I had a hard time seeing how to mount the A/R clutch spring - Dennis
Hi Dennis Very nice reel Dennis the newer that get . More complicated lol . I'm waiting for a computer reel to come out ! Lol I love older reels. Thank you so much Denise Merry Christmas 🎄🎁
Nice looking reel Dennis. You and your family have a wonderful weekend my friend. If we don't see you before Christmas, you folks have a Merry Christmas as well.
Dennis: I need your help. I have a Shakespeare 1958 Triumph model: FE I did take the reel apart which now, I do not know how to get the gears out back in place. Will you please show me how to get the gears in place on this reel. Maybe there is a book or pamphlet out there I could Purchase about this reel. Thank you in advance for your help Randy
@ I thank you for this. I just found you live within the last week. You are a breath of fresh air for people like me. Keep up the great work you are presenting and I will be there listening and watching Randy
Greetings sir, this was excellent. I ran into that spring set up on several of my reels. The kast king Crixus, Okuma avenger,to name a couple. One 'spring hunt" ended with sweeping the entire area. guys handle the springs like you would a nuclear grenade. So the president is kind of a downgraded Battle? Thanks ./////bill
Those little AR springs can be a nightmare. Especially if your work table has a carpet floor under it and they boing on you. I have a 20 and a 25 president and I'm guessing those on that 40 are larger. As far as drag is concerned, I prefer felt on al l my spinning reels because they perform smoother, and have taken the carbon out to replace with felts. It's simple to remove and re-oil them. Some guys crank their drags too tight and winch fish in like they are in a timed fishing tournament. I don't even like seeing ppl do that. I find carbon on a spinning reel is grabby and jerky. Carbon is ok on baitcasters that are a more perfect machine. If anyone would like any more strong opinions I'm available.😉
Thanks for the service. I knew it needed it. Thanks again..
Glad I could help you out!

It is similar to the Battle, but a different model in the lineup. It is value priced, but shares a lot of the Battle features - Best wishes - Dennis
That Pflueger President look like a really good lil Reel Dennis, but those springs are always a headache .
Yes they are! Spring that go boing are always an issue and those small anti-reverse ones are the worst!

Thanks for sharing. Yes, each type of washer has its own benefits and shortfalls - Carbon is not the be all end all - thanks for sharing - Dennis
