I miss the old Herter’s company. I worked for a computer service bureau that ran the accounting systems for Herter’s back in 1980. When Herter’s closed its doors in 1981 it was the end of an era. The old Herter’s building is still there, but it has been occupied by another business since 1982.
One of my best days was stopping at the Herter's store in Lacey, Washington in 1979 or thereabouts. I had no idea the store was closing. I bought spinner blades, clothing, lead weights, hooks and some other stuff I don't remember. It took all my cash so dinner got a little inventive for a couple weeks. I still have some of those spinner blades!
Very neat little gizmo! I had the lake system color C-lector which tells the depth and color lures to use but have not seen that device before. Very interesting though.
I have two absolutely beautiful Herters Professional Fishing spinning reels. I got curious about who Heaters was. It turned into quite the story not the least of which was the personality and sales tactics of Heaters. He was quite the character that had a great deal of self-confidence and a deep sense of self-importance. It is a fascinating story. I have no idea about this equipment but I do know something about the person of Herters. - Chris
The length of wire indicates the "transducer" for depth may work on water pressure rather than sonar pulses like todays fish-finders, temperature is read at varying depths like a thermometer with a weight, it's 6 volt handheld as opposed to the Herters "black-box" style. pretty neat.
I loved the Herters catalog.

Hi Denise nice vintage herters product. The old days are so gone for good products of yesterday. It's a shame. Thanks Dennis

I think the needle will quickly oscillate and the different colors will appear on the needle as a line to decipher what is where on the chart.
I remember seeing this gadget advertised. But I never laid eyes on one.////bill
