@@giggityeffyou So if you ever break down when its raining you better not open the hood and try to fix your car or its ruined?, pressure washer is a little different than rain for sure but what if it takes you an hour and its raining hard? at what point do you draw the line there?
When I clean engines, I use a mixture of Dawn Dish Soap, Super Clean & Purple Power Boat & Vehicle Wash. I only use my garden hose, no power washer. I use my foam gun, let dwell & scrub with my wheel & tire brushes. Rinse, dry with forced air. Then I apply an inexpensive tire foam spray, let air dry. After the product has dried, I will come back & apply protectant and or wax as needed. I never spray the insulation under the hood. The tire foam does an outstanding job. Keep Cleaning!
Do not do this if you have an exposed alternator!! Pressure washing will force water into areas not meant for water to go into. You will wear down the grease in the coils and eventually start shorting your alternator, your car will not run the same and possibly short our your alternator. Cover your alternator, make sure all your caps are secured tightly and check for exposed wiring and clean your electrical components by hand.

In my city we have a 4 months of no rain, the dust is like thanos, inevitble
Just to help people feel better about it. I have no lower engine cover and drive my 3 low daily (2.5" all the way around as of the past 2 years. 4 years prior, 3.5"). I run through huge puddles on the highway (my city's drains can clog in heavy storms which is often in summer) and water legit splashes up my engine bay. So far, no damage from it. It's not sitting on top of my valve cover, in the ignition seat, in the injector seat, nor is it getting in my intake. As long as that water keeps it moving, it's all good. My alternator gets splashed especially because it's so low in my engine bay. All these years, never had a problem with it due to getting wet. As long as you cover what's needed (when I clean my bay, I cover the valve cover as i clean it separately, i cover over the injectors, and that's it. sometimes I take the battery out to clean the battery box) and dry it properly, you're all good.

I just did this on my 02 WRX, granted she's down right now as she sounded awful from the engine bay, turned out my uppipe literally blew out underneath the turbo.
