I absolutely love my 2016 883. Best bike I have ever owned. Countless mods available to completely personalize the machine. It has excellent performance and reliability, and is great to take on long road trips!
More Lightweight than some street bikes and almost 900cc damn straight it's a nice ride...I own one and have to say these bikes are under rated and don't get the respect the deserve
I've been riding all sizes of motorcycles from all countries in all styles. I find the interstate very boring and tractor trailers to be dangerous. I pleasure ride the back roads in my local mountains on the twisties on day trips in addition to daily commuting. My latest purchase is the most fun bike I've ever had and that is saying a lot since I've been riding for over 55 years; it's a 2005 Sportster XL883 Standard. The 1200 is too long legged for my back roads and I like to keep the rpm's up for accelerating AND decelerating. The forward controls force me to slouch and I end up with a severe lower back ache. The standard controls are what I grew up with and the riding position being slightly forward gives me much more control in tight turns -- if you snow ski, you understand about keeping your weight in front of your knees -- as well as keeping me in a correct posture with no pain in my back. If you read the history of how the Sportster was born as a result of the British invasion of BSA's, Norton's, Triumph's and other 500cc to 650cc bike kicking our American butts on the tracks, you will appreciate the Sportster even more. Did you even know that the Sportster had right-foot shift like the Brit bikes and its displacement was always referred to in metric terms? This little beast saved Harley Davidson after WWII when our vets came home wanting smaller and faster motorcycles. The "little" 883cc Harley Davidson started out as a "redheaded stepchild" but look at it now. I try to keep my upgrades invisible so that it still looks stock but performs the best that it can. It is simple enough that I can do most of my own wrenching on it which is man-therapy. I hope to keep it running longer than I can. "Smiles per mile" is an understatement. Needless to say, this is not a "chick-bike", "baby-Harley" or any other demeaning term. Bigger is definitely not always better. Can you tell I like my new-to-me ride?
@@rickiejacobs5910 No, but I have ridden the 1200 and the only noticeable difference is more torque and more vibration. Loved the torque, not so much the vibration, but I still loved the bike. As long as the kit was installed by a reputable mechanic, I would definitely go for it if the price is good. With my bad back, I would have to have the mid-controls because forwards kill my sciatica.
Regarding the late engagement of the clutch lever, the clutch may need adjusting which is a simple part of the 10K mile maintenance service. Also, H-D puts a "spring plate" in the middle of the clutch pack which occupies where the central 3 discs would normally reside. The purpose of this "spring plate" is to make a long and soft engagement. Most people remove this "spring plate" aka "grenade plate" because after 30K miles, it can come apart and the brass components can disintegrate the transmission like shrapnel. This is an easy replacement which is not expensive. I did it myself last summer. Check the XLForum.
I wish i lived near you. In the Netherlands these bikes are all 2x the price. Vstar 650 younger than 1997 are already at 6000$. but one day, one day. Love your videos
I got a 2013 yamaha V-star 650 for $7,000 in Australia. everything here is expensive too, the bike was almost brand new though. when i see prices for stuff in America i kinda wish i lived there
well go to Poland for a Sportster price you can buy a single-family house........... for a price of a road king you can have 2 houses and I'm not talking about a tiny house I mean 2 story nice house.
4500 miles?! Wow, that’s almost criminal to have that few miles on it. I like how he doesn’t care for a certain bike until he has one for sale! People go on about these 883s sometimes like they’re rebel 250s and even worse! Obviously haven’t ridden one if you think that. I started on a Honda 600 making about the same hp and it is way more manageable and beginner friendly than the 883!!
i own a 2006 883 custom i bought in 2011 it still only has 4200 miles on it so really no big deal on mileage. i just don't ride it at all being on social security really can't afford too put it on the road like i would want too. and it really is a 1 person bike. nobody on the back too small for that.
does this year of Harley have a fuel pump that makes a sound when ignition turns to on? i am trying to diagnose my bike to see if it is a battery issue or fuel issue, but when i turn my ignition to on position i do not hear a noise in the fuel pump area like i do on a-lot of newer motorcycles. mine is carbureted as well.
I finished my Mc license yesterday and have been out looking for a bike today, I was sure I was going to buy a adventure bike but I found a 2006 sportster for $4k and it was such a blast to ride! How does this fare on longer trips? My brother lives 400 km away so about 4-5 hours on motorway. I also tried a dragstar 1200 for $3k which was ALOT more punchy but for some reason I really liked the sportster more even though the dragstar was in general better and cheaper (but a lot bigger also)
Hey guys, What's the average cost to dyno tune a carberated 2003/883 sportster? How much can I expect to pay to have the jets changed? I bought this 883 with basani sweeps and the guy didn't jet the carb. I've read it should be rejetted. Thanks for your answer in advance. God Bless you.
My daughters church has a bike club and I've been looking at 883s to buy her she said when they ride they run like 80s and 90 all day can she keep up at that speed on a 883
I'm looking at one of these right now. Same color too, that's why it popped out to me in the thumbnail. All original except they added a different foot peg that's more comfortable. They're asking $4500 for it. 4,500 miles. It's like it's the same bike lol
What was the lat thing that went through the bug's mind as he hit the windshield?.............................................................his butt.
It's fine; I weigh 225, and it gets up and goes just fine. Don't get sucked in to the "gotta have a big engine" mindset that most Harley buyers do. I've had my 883 5+ years, and it gets me down the road just as well as bigger bikes.
@@hovanti oh I know but they recommend like a 1200 or something along those lines. Not necessarily the engine itself. I want a 883 for the very reason that it's little and fast. I just need someone's opinion. Thanks for your reply.
@@Mr.MidKnight I hope you find a good bike; good luck! Just make sure it fits you; with mine, I can put both feet down flat when I stop, which is a good thing.

Not the 06. Sportster. 07 when it got efi it had s fuel light. Best best just watch your miles. The custom is a 4 gallon tank you should get just shy of 50 mpg
Guys i want to buy exactly like this , the guy is asking 6000 Euros, the bike has 5000 miles on it. This is my first bike and a am not expert . So i want to know if the price that he is asking ok and what else i need to check before buying it?
I just got one today. mine got 6000 miles on it. and on title it says it was sold at 4000 miles something before... I'm learning, so I didn't try it... my husband drove it. it says it's powerful. but you better be a girl or a thin guy. cause it's small... don't hear it too much here but it's loud too
My 883 wasnt much different with a passenger, it has a nice lump of torque to cruise the backroads, its not a performance bike, an people dont buy em to go fast surely. ? A passenger affects ANY bike
I really wish that H.D.would make a bike like this but with a120" engine,6 speed trans, 18" rims with tall fat rubber-front&rear, a 4 gallon peanut tank and no forward controls for the feet. The only thing black would be the frame and the tires of course. Oh, and a single seat ( AND NO ELECTRONIC FLY BY WIRE SHIT ). One can only dream.
OMG i have the same one....883 pearl with a light blue design 2017 , it’s beautiful but as a new rider, i kind of scare, i ride few time around my neighborhood, i drop the bike ones, and now i feel super scare, it is beautiful i love it.....my husband add a windshield and the mustache bars......but im so scare, i fell more confortable before......i don’t know what to do........😞

One of the reasons that you like that particular 883 is because of the plush seat. Most don't come with a seat like that.

The only thing a sportster needs is upgrade the suspension, it’s a good reliable motorcycle
What was the standard speed you were going and gear??
