Christian R narhh not for me. Tlop and 808s his Best albums for me, and i love all his albums and dont come around and tell me im not a Real fan because i even know his mixtapes
@Samwise the Brave gorgeous??? Sorry gotta hard disagree with that choice, I would personally pick Jesus walks instead. Also waves is very unfinished and kinda lazy, famous imo is miles far superior
@Samwise the Brave it's mixed horribly, genuinely sounds so.muddy and bland, when it could've been so maximalist and clear and gargantuan. A lot of mbdtf has this issue but gorgeous is the worst example. Yes the verse is definitely one of the best verses ye has ever written, but the raekwon feature is genuinely useless, why is he even there? Do you even remember what he's rapping about, because I wouldn't be shocked if you didn't. I get that if there's one part of a song that hits you particularly it's difficult to see the flaws in the rest of the track, but I bet if I asked you about power you'd be able to talk in detail about all the parts and why they're amazing, yet probably wouldn't even remember 75% of the final gorgeous verse. Shows that it didn't impact you at all
@Samwise the Brave I mean yeah, but I don't think it is intentional, it just seems amateur and thrown together. You have every right to love it, it's a great fucking song and 90% of rappers in the game couldn't top a song like that, but with the standards for Kanye being SO HIGH that's why I had to disagree with it being in the top five, especially when Jesus walks or famous were ignored, which production wise and lyrical content wise are far superior in their own unique ways
Samwise the Brave Runaway, Devil in a New Dress, No More Parties in LA, Famous, All of the Lights, Lost in the World, Hell of a Life, all better if not very close. So I wouldnt say easily...

Tster it’s not made up Kanye knows those issues he’s a superstar we aren’t there’s a disconnect doesn’t make it made up and I mean lyrically it’s his best production is his best say what you want about the subject material but technically it’s perfect
Easily Kanye’s most underrated album, largely due to the antics surrounding kanye that overshadowed the release of this album. Respect to melon for being honest and just talking about the album for the music rather than focusing on the dumb stuff kanye was doing at the time like a lot of other reviewers did. This review aged really well.
If you have the album on loop (which I'm sure Kanye anticipated considering how short it is), the shift from Violent Crimes back to I Thought About Killing You is a really jarring change. I think Kanye is trying to show the massive swings he goes through, and in only 24 minutes he brilliantly shows how you almost don't realize the difference while shifting between these two polar opposites. I thought the album as a whole was a brilliant metaphor for what Kanye feels on a regular basis. It starts out really angry, abrasive, scary, but quickly it moves to sadness, euphoria, and self reflection, and then finally in the final song he has a few precious moments of lucidity where he is able to snap out of the cycle and think about his kids and their future. Ghost Town felt like just a happy song a first, but then it feels a little too saturated to be genuine. It has a vibe like getting really high on a sunny day, but then eventually realizing that you'll come back down sooner or later and that it's not true happiness.
Somali Pirate Who Pirated Your Girlfriend I always find it funny when people attack someone for not thinking the way they do. Look over those foolish people, just sit back and laugh it up. I personally love to show my friends and family the hilariously stupid comments and we have a ball.
This album is the reason why I got into Kanye for real. I started from The College Dropout to Ye and I got to say that every single one of his albums has been my favorite at one point. All of his albums have a different feel for every mood and situation that makes Kanye such an amazing artist. Greatest artist ever
Literally just thinking this! How can you praise this record in particular for being a 'snapshot of Kanyes mental state' when that's what pretty much every album he's released for the last 8 years has been
Trainer Red this, Fantano never was a fan of kanye because of his main appeal, his ego, and on this albulm kanye didn’t bring his ego up like he did on most of his other albulms. I think that’s why this is my least favorite kanye albulm lol
Funny how people put so much stock in agreement...instead of liking or not liking whatever they like or don't like without the need for someone else to agree. Novel concept, I know.
The beat on "I thought about killing you" is my favorite beat in rap history. It's so off putting and scary. And the way Kanye just talked over it. Makes it hit like a fucking train. Love it so much.
Jeeses99 i Think this album was amazing. I loved tlop too dont know what allthe hate is about. Yeezus was an amazing album( not one of my favorite kanye albums though) 808s is the most underrated album of all time in my opinion. That album is a masterpiece. I Think this new ye album just needs time, møbecause it Grows better and better evertime i hear it.
Jeeses99 i Think the only Way for you to enjoy yeezus, is to drop the expectations while listening to it. And the lyrics are means to be ballon this album. Try to focus on the many layers the beats have.
Jeeses99 I agree with your ratings for all except the first two, buts that's cause I've only heard them once and didn't really love it(didn't see the fuss was about except on a handful of songs from both), but that was two years ago so maybe I'll try it again.
Honestly, this is one of Ye's most cohesive albums. Where certain albums he released are more like an art gallery showcasing his own talents, that of his friends and prodigies, new sounds he wants to push, etc... "ye" feels like its trying to say something, it feels like a slice of his mind, and I really appreciate when artists push albums like this. Its far more of an "artistic" album than something like TLOP or Yeezus. In short, this is an album for fans of songs like "Wolves" or "All Falls Down" rather than "Power" or "Can't Tell Me Nothing". If you think MBDTF or WTT is Kanye's best stuff, this album might not be for you.
Yeezus is one of his most artistic albums. While it has its low points and it is an acquired taste, it grows on you. The beats for the most part are extremely adventurous and interesting. Honestly Yeezus is some of his best work, as it shows how creative he can be and that he can make it sound good with heavy electronic and rock influences.
I think you articulated this very well but are a bit misled in some areas. Every single one of Kanye’s albums he’s giving the world his current mental state and perspective. Although graduation is probably the most anthem based, it still had retrospective songs such as Big Brother and Homecoming. All of CD was his most vulnerable and truthful thoughts as he was rising to fame. LR was not as vulnerable but Hey mama still makes me cry. 808 and heartbreak was just (if not more) vulnerable than Ye or CD. MBDTF has runaway which is his grand apology. On Yeezus, Kanye’s on his bully and explains to the world what he’s thinking and the truth he’s spitting such as I am a god, New Slaves, and Blood on the leaves. TLOP was very much the same with songs like Wolves, FLM, Ultralightbeam, and my personal favorite, Saint Pablo. On WTT, those were more bangers for the club but New Day explains what he’s still feeling. The only reason people give Ye (a personal favorite of mine) this “introspective” praise is that it was only 7 songs long so he happened to fit all of his emotions into an album with zero club bangers or fillers (Kanye never has fillers btw). JIK was probably his biggest flop but still features the albums most beautiful song Use this Gospel. Donda features more introspective thoughts and feelings about his current situation. His single Eazy was just as raw. There was never an old or new Kanye, just an evolving, flawed man speaking his mind on every piece of music he gets. Except for his club bangers ofc those are just to bump and they always slap!
I think it is because he will be coming out with an album with Cudi. Anyways, I think the album is short because it was made quickly about his current state of mind.
Pretty solid album review: you covered most of the points made by Kanye in a very effective manner; however, I thought it was very unnecessary and distasteful to reminisce about the holocaust for the last 5 minutes of the video.
Fantano, when Kanye said "400 years... Sounds like a choice!", he meant that you take a long time to drop album reviews, not because you're busy, but because you're just a lazy, self centered fuck. That's why we love you melon.
To this day I will never understand how people think this is one of Kanye’s worst and also not a good album. Like what? It’s in the middle of his discography at worst and would be the best in a lot of rappers discographies in my opinion
Slavery lasted ~200yrs in America not 400. On TMZ Kanye was rapping about Amistad (first slave ship) & said 400 years meaning blaming slavery for failure TODAY isn't the best outlook. Self empowerment isn't a bad message. It's a message kids need to hear when everyone's telling them they'll never make it because they're not white. People are just going out of their way to misinterpret Kanye because the wore the wrong hat and wasn't militant leftist enough. He's just pushing Gandhism ... exactly like MLK. I'm a PoC and I agree with Ye. Don't think anyone's arguing there aren't remnants of institutional racism but telling black kids it's impossible to succeed because the system is out to get them is just going to make most not even try. It's not true, you'll get some discrimination but self-limiting beliefs are a WAY bigger barrier to succeeding.
I'm bilingual its awesome. Seriously though, he literally says "tryna test my Gandhi" on the album and has been tweeting out Gandhi disciples for months. He's been reappropriating right wing hate symbols for over 5 years now. He did the MAGA hat thing in 2013 by putting the Confederate flag on Yeezus merch. Where was the outrage then? He's kept the same philosophy of taking something that resembles hatred and taking away its power by making it resemble love. Isn't that what black culture does with the N-word? TMZ uploaded his song about Amistad (the first slave ship) 2 days before his TMZ interview. He was talking about victim mentality/mental slavery for weeks before the interview. He's been talking about people failing because they're taught they can't help themselves for a decade. Watch his Zane Lowe interview in 2013. LITERALLY THE EXACT SAME MESSAGE ABOUT MENTAL SLAVERY. Why are you people suddenly getting outraged now? Because he took a photo with the stupid orange baboon man? Suddenly that makes everything bad?
AB i already argued the same points as you, it is not worth discussing it, trust me. Who is hating wants fuel to keep hating, we are between intellectual dishonesty and clout mob mentality. For them it is about headlines, social acceptable narratives, twitter activism and memes. Dont take it serious.
He completely redid the album after his TMZ interview and the backlash, 99% of it was produced in the last month, and it was only finished hours before the listening party. Source: Malik Yusef
My favorite line is "but how you the devil rebuking the sin" because it puts the whole track (violent crimes) in perspective because Kanye acknowledges he's one of those people who has objectified women
His opinions on different songs: 1. I Thought About Killing You 4:33 2. Yikes 6:52 3. All Mine 7:42 4. Wouldn't Leave 8:40 5. No Mistakes 9:26 6. Ghost Town 9:58 7. Violent Crimes 11:53

Arsenalfanatic09 Yellow flannel = good review . Red flannel = bad review
The beat on "I thought about killing you" is my favorite beat in rap history. It's so off putting and scary. And the way Kanye just talked over it. Makes it hit like a fucking train. Love it so much.
Quite well said my guy 🎵

Check the demo version of the song where Francis in the light discovers the beat while humming. It's amazing and longer

Ghost Town and Violent Crimes is an almost overwhelmingly beautiful ending to an album
Easy 8. But we know Kanye can do better. He just didn't have time on his side for this album. He got 5 albums to produce.
Noctis Altura well he basically had his album done, he just scraped it and made this album in a month span May.1- Jun.1
Jens Verner
Bro, yesss 808's was raw asf. Ye kinda reminds me of it. Also, Tlop is definitely a good album.
Jeeses99
I agree with your ratings for all except the first two, buts that's cause I've only heard them once and didn't really love it(didn't see the fuss was about except on a handful of songs from both), but that was two years ago so maybe I'll try it again.
I really hope some fake Kanye account leaves a comment saying “Thank you Anthony, very cool!”
Beanie Lord lol
Ye - 8/10
MBDTF - 6/10
*melon logic*
But when will people stop bringing up the mbdtf review on every video?
Mbdtf is a 100/100 album. Literally Zero flaws, and finely put together and crafted. I don't think I heard one bad line or song on the entire project
Halaa
Only when he deletes it and makes an apology video + re-review
Kod-5/10 like wtf
GD FR still don’t get that one but ye is a really good album tbh
(YE)llow flannel
Nick Hill yo fuck ur profilepic
Ye and Yeezus are his best in my opinion.
@@rowdyrathore9911 Same
Yeezus is one of his most artistic albums. While it has its low points and it is an acquired taste, it grows on you. The beats for the most part are extremely adventurous and interesting. Honestly Yeezus is some of his best work, as it shows how creative he can be and that he can make it sound good with heavy electronic and rock influences.
@@wgliam I can mess with only Bound 2, Black Skinhead, I Am A God and New Slaves but the other 6 tracks on the album are ok at best
Loved the review Melon, but I didn't understand your random, passionate defense of the transatlantic slave trade.
@Arbstel Bleu do you ever watch fantano vids?
@Gibbous how did I get woooshed? I replied to a guy saying that OPs comment was wrong.
This review is nearly as long as the album
YUNG PELVIN J now does that tell us something about the length of this review or does it tell us something about the length of the album?
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 i agree .. this one is a bit boring
thats what disappointed me most about the album, the music is great but 7 songs? come on ye.
I think it is because he will be coming out with an album with Cudi. Anyways, I think the album is short because it was made quickly about his current state of mind.

Kinda confused why you took your shirt off and poured orphan blood all over yourself, but other than that, good review melon.

Most rappers
Probably because it's only 7 tracks and was pretty weird on release. It doesn't have much to do with the actual content
Ye's F = lot of rappers A
But thats an A to B

what it do why? He wrote the hook for Yikes which was one of the main praises lol
This album after 5 years is still a 10/10 and one of kanye"s best
Violent crimes is on a different level. Incredible story telling
Hating on Kanye for 5 albums? That sounds like a choice
Ian Adams he rereviewed tlop and gave it an 8 lol
haha topkek that makes 4 which fits even better for the 400 years
Best comment here. Haha!
Finally, a score for a Kanye album reviewed by theneedledrop that I can totally agree with😃
Fuck Meaghan Garvey and Pitchfork for giving her a platform to spew that verbal diarrhoea.

Slavery was a choice/ 10
It's not true, you'll get some discrimination but self-limiting beliefs are a WAY bigger barrier to succeeding.
yes AB
Live Free or Die
Still amazing

@@ihatecorpsehusband7147 donda with a short track list would’ve exceeded ye, unfortunately he kept tracks that show this thrown together production
My favorite line is "but how you the devil rebuking the sin" because it puts the whole track (violent crimes) in perspective because Kanye acknowledges he's one of those people who has objectified women
Ghost town is one of Kanye’s greatest songs and may be my favorite song of all time. It’s so powerful and makes me emotional every listen
WE GOT THE YELLOW?!?!? Wow, I was convinced he’d hate it
