greqt excercise but you have no idea why it works. it doesnt work because of your jaw not biting... its a semi occluted vocal tract excercise. this creates a pressurized chamber above the vocal cords which then because of the pressure differential pulls air through your cords instead of you pushing the air. that is what lets you relax. it literally takes away the effort from your vocal folds. it is the same concept behind inhaling the voice, just much easier to do.

I think you'll make a great life coach or speaker. You're very relaxing to talk/listen to as well. I think it's also the room. I like everything abt this video b/c others are hard or stressful or simply unhelpful. This is the opposite.
Thanks for the share on this! I live in London and it's a new one on me :) I think that often we are unintentionally the biggest enemies of self-sabotage by our body (neck, shoulders, head etc) doing things that take us out of vocal posture and then counteract the exercise or training. Sometimes having an 'aid' to ensure that you can't do this is a great way of conditioning this! ..... I will be buying some straws!
Yes, Ian, it does work! So glad you gave it a try! We help fast track your vocal development through a systematic process of exercises that improve your vocal power, tone, style, and longevity. We start with simple singing exercises and slowly transition into more advanced exercises. If you feel overwhelmed, or if your voice is struggling with the technique, the self-study program can be modified and taken at a slower pace. Learn more here: singingsuccess.com/ss360/
how long before a performance should I warm up my voice ? And after a couple of days singing how many days should I rest my voice ? ( and should I still practice warm ups and drills on my rest days ?)
Great question! The answer depends on your current level of strength and conditioning. Before I a performance I woud say generally speaking (meaning not in every scenario for every singer) to warm up for 20 min. “Bigger” voices take longer to warm up. As you become more proficient with the technique over time, our team here teaches our students how to move from practice to performance in the following systematic approach: WCW (Warm-up/Coordinate/Workout) WCA (Warm-up/Coordinate/Application) WCP (Warm-up/Coordinate/Perform) If you are singing with good technique and warming down at the end of practice sessions or a show, you will require less rest than someone with poor technique. That said, rest is essential for everyone, so I’d say after a few days of conditioning or performing take a day of rest-where you don’t sing, but instead I suggest listening. Brett says, “half of singing is listening.” Train yourself to engage active listening (vs. passive listening) where you listen to different artists and analyze what they’re doing and how they’re doing it.
I saw several of this on youtube but none of them including you are clear. Are you blowing air through the straw, humming inside your mouth with a straw on your mouth or humming your voice through the straw?
When singing and trying to feel the words you gotta connect with what you are saying. It doesn't have to be an exact match with the songs lyrics but if there is song about sadness then connect that to a memory you have of when you were sad. You want to sing in a way that is believable. Connecting to something real is a great way to do that.
Yes! And some of them were in a light mix and then transitioned to head voice as he went higher. Jason has a such a well connected voice, so it can be hard to hear his transitions sometimes!
This helps eliminate strain and with that will help your tone. So yes and if you'd like further explanation we offer a free 15 minute consults with one of our coaches.
Lower notes resonate slower while higher notes resonate faster. If you are noticing the vibration quicken and maybe it seems less because its faster and harder to feel then that is perfectly normal. If you want to take advantage of our free 15 minute consult with one of our coaches they can listen and make sure you are doing the exercise correctly.

Why don't you guys talk about breath support? (And by support i don't mean pushing.) SS360 is a good program and it works but for a complete beginner like me knowing how to breath properly should be teached in the program. I was doing exercises with lot of strain and tension and nothing was working for me but then one day I heard about diaphragmatic breathing and suddenly all exercises made sense to me. Those who are trying to learn themselves should know that proper breathing is important. And I want a proper video series on breathing by Brett Manning itself on this UA-cam channel. Thanks Team Singing Success.
