i was drinking some water with a straw so i thought might as well do this. But it actually really helps and it has become a part of my daily vocal warm ups. I also recommend Cheryl Porter here on youtube for anyone who wants really good vocal excersizes. Shes the best vocal coach..like ever!
Would like more explanation on beginning. If I just blow air through straw there is only the sound of air , no tone. I have to create a sound ooo or ahh or uhh to follow exercises?
Before blowing through the straw, first sing an "u" ("who") vowel sound with rounded, pursed lips (like she does in the exercise #4). This is the sound you should make when blowing through the straw. Hope that helps.😊
Yes, you're right! When using a straw for vocal exercises, you should create a sound, like "ooo" or "uhh," as you blow air through the straw. It helps engage your vocal cords and control your breath. The goal is to balance airflow with vocal cord vibration, which will help you improve your tone and support. Keep practicing with gentle sounds, and you'll get the hang of it!
I went to public school in the 60's and 70's, so whenever someone looks at me with a straw in their mouth, I can't help but expect a spitwad to be coming. Gimme a "Hell Yeah" if you have PTSD too!
Idk it's useless... i always warm up and it feels like it's getting better while doing the warm up scales, and when done i try to sing a song and it's just horrible.
well you cant give up! a good voice takes months and months of practice, you dont just perfect it right after one excersize. Keep going , youll get there! 😁
