You vastly over estimate the number of people that play in comps, in the states it’s probably 5% of golfers tops. We don’t care if a club is legal or not mate
5% 😂 it’s most club golfers
Looks like I will be going with the fakes. 😂
A wedge is a wedge. As long as you get the right bounce and sole grind for your course condition and uses, they'll perform practically identical to one another.
So true.
So true
Well done. Great video. My mate has Vokey copies, I have originals and we can't see any real differences. Hcp 12 and 14.
Thanks for the fake Vokey donation Glen, you’re a real one!
Maybe you should do blind test for average golfer, really curious to see the results
Greta idea mate.
Not much technology in a non hollow cast club head. Pour metal into the cast, trim off excess, polish, paint, done. I doubt most of us would know the difference between a good counterfeit vs a real. The real difference may be in the quality of the shaft and even then, it would be minimal. It's a club that hits around 100-120 yards for most golfers. A counterfeit may be a few yards shorter. After using it a few times, you will know the yardage and adjust your game to it, just like any club, real or fake.
Good video. I replied on an way earlier video about fakes you did, that i had bought some fake SM8's. Look at the difference between the sole and the first groove. That is what my local pro (at the time) looked at, as well as the serial. If people do regrip them for 10 quid, at least there is another couple of differences. Great you are continuing to highlight this issue.
I’d almost like to get a fake just to test it out. If all you did was swap the grip to a real tour velvet and handed it to a golfer 98% of them probably wouldn’t even know it’s fake.
Just fyi if you never did this, I did and we have 2 guys at our local course that played on some pro-ams somewhat semi pro and neither could tell a difference. We also have a guy who is on tour and grew up at local course. Planning on testing with him when he’s back home lol.
Where’d you get it from?
Just got the lazrus wedges loving them 😍
I have these and love them, got a 56 and a 60 for cheaper than a single real one and dont regret it
So let me say this, a Vokey wedge (except for the specialty grinds) is really just a cast wedge. There are difference in quality i'm sure, however for a "weekend warrior/amateur" it really wouldn't make a difference.
England not grtting much rain... the Arizona desert is getting a great rainy season this summer, more rain than usual.
But how do you know if your SM6 or SM 7 is also forged? Unless you can see an original. The best way is the fake lasered or dremmeled serial number.
Haha. Feel bad we couldn’t do a deal with me being away on hols. Nice vid bud ✊
Haha thanks John 🙌
Larger labeling, smaller serial number, less refined grooves, cheap finish. Thanks!
Also seems the back edge of the bounce is sharper than the real vokey.
Secret option #3 - a new one from a cheaper brand. Cleveland, Wilson perhaps
Unlike the fake SM8, the Kirkland wedges are legal, perform well, plus at $160.00 for three clubs is great bargain. Out of the box the Kirkland wedges do need new grips so that's an added cost, but still a nice set of clubs. Nice and informative review as usual.
No the Kirkland wedges are rubbish, far to much flex in the shafts, iv had them iv bined them
@@darrenmorris8258 in what way are they trash? Stop hiting fat shots and maybe they wouldn't be to flex in the shaft.
@@darrenmorris8258 what?? Kirkland’s are fine if you hit a wedge good.. are they the best? Not by any means but are a great bang for your buck
the major OEM manufacturers wedges are a bit of a rip-off, especially new.
prob could get a good, knowledgeable club-fitter/builder to put together a set of component wedges for a fraction of the cost and get very similar performance.
but, yes, technique over everything.
I got the SM9 online and showed it to my golf pro. He tested it (without knowing that it is a fake) and thought it was great.
Did the fake wedge have a serial number on hosel or not? Same for the real wedge?
I know this video is a year old, but this is scary as even manufacturers aren't consistent in their ways. I have two sets of SM8 Vokeys and the serial number design isn't the same on either set as displayed in the video. I have a Brushed Steel set and the numbers are tight together similar to the "fake". I also have the Slate blue set and the numbers are more spaced apart. Both are laser printed, and the fake you posted looks like it was stamped almost. But the proof is I could give you 5 different real Vokeys and they wouldn't not completely match.
It may have been the video, but the tooling on the hostel, just below the ferrel and above the serial number appeared to be more precise on the real one.
I’ve heard rumors of these “ghost shifts” that go on in some manufacturing plants in China. A legitimate company TaylorMade, Callaway etc factory will operate from say 8am-5pm using all the companies specific molds, materials, etc. After the factory “closes” a new set of workers come in and crank out the counterfeit versions of those clubs using their own materials that are of inferior quality and not quite perfectly matched but very close because they are using their molds.
this is made up, people say the same things about fake jordan shoes, and other limited or exclusive/ expensive items
@@jadenngl have you seen the reps lately? rep sneakers are being made equally if not bettee now a days.. especially the yeezys.. those factories have come A LONG WAY from the early 2000's I'd assume it's similar for golf
@@illytree im not saying the shoes are bad or the clubs are bad, im just saying the rumor isnt true
@@jadenngl okay fair.. I used to think it was all trash. but they have some excellent reps now a days and if you know what you're doing you can get some great shoes for below retail and actually wear them lol.
I'm using mack daddy CB and every time I test against traditional blade wedges it's way easier with the added bounce especially with a bit of pressure.
Also left hand low has helped me massively chipping.
If you think for a moment the fake wedges are as good as the real deal, think again. I was a club repair person in a major golf store and a customer came in with three brand new Cleveland black satin wedges. Being a shorter person he wanted his wedges bent to his 3 degrees flat specs. When I bent the first wedge, it cracked at the hosel with little effort. I thought I had gone to far, but only bent it 2 degrees. So I tried bending the second wedge and the same thing occurred. It broke at the hosel.
I asked him where he had purchased the wedges, and he told me Ebay. Then the lights came on. I went to the club wall and fetched the same real Cleveland wedge and compared them side by side. Yes then it was clear he had bought fakes. The metal in the fakes is very poor, almost like cheaply poured pot metal. Same as a fake Scotty Cameron putter I had run across, which broke at the hosel. The true is, Chinese fakes are not worth the savings you might think they are. They are Sh!t.
cool cool. had he not needed them bent I'd be willing to bet money he couldn't tell the difference.. and 95% of golfer wouldn't either.. I've used fake vokeys from AliExpress and outside of the grips... idk man they did the exact same thing as my real ones.
replicas are better than ever nowadays. you'd be surprised. I'm going to buy a fake replica and test it out myself. I am a 5 hdcp
@@h.l.4723 This is the major change, the quality now can be extremely high. This generalisation that Chinese fake clubs are Sh#t is no longer valid in all cases. I suspect soon it will be very hard to tell the difference and this will cause major problems in the resale market.
Suppose it's also down to who makes the fake one. If it's wish or some other site like this, it could be a completely different comparison.
Got a used 56* SM6 last December for $30 on Marketplace ... don't think it ever saw a bunker before I bought it. The off season is the best time to pickup gently used wedges on the cheap I've noticed.
I always have trouble hitting any wedge 😂
LMAOOOOOO. I knew mine was fake!!!!! Such bs I paid 150$ for it last year. I will say though it has INSANE backspin. I ended up getting rid of it because I bent it down 2 degrees and it never hit well again
Or go and grab a box set of Kirkland wedges......for beginners......even lower mid handicappers they perform great all for $150 for the set. I love Costco lol
Blimey I didn't know these were faked.
Yeah im buying the fake one, can't found the original 2nd hand in my country for that price lol
What many Vokey wedge owners don’t understand is that Vokey wedge heads are manufactured in China. They are manufactured in several different locations. It would only make sense to the numbers would not necessarily be of the same type. Another thing that you don’t realize is that Vokey wedges are not forged, they’re cast.
Kind of curious how the PGA of America would know whether it’s real or not?
Yes indeed a common mistake people assume, they are cast !
I wonder if these fakes will rust ?
They do not
Of course they are only illegal in competition play if someone notices they are fakes and they did look as good as any fakes I've ever seen.
I think you sold me on buying a fake one I’m sure that’s not what you wanted to hear
