To be fair, there is not much difference in the distance held as you can see they are still going the same as you want them to but with the spin difference. Unless you do a robot test nothing can be certain, as human error always plays a factor. Looking at your full swing data of the fake wedge for the first shot, is clear that when you changed wedge there might have been some change in your situation causing the strike to be at the 4000s for spin. And therefore the average spin rate went down to the 7000s, other wise it would have been in the 8s which is a better data set to compare.
*****Suggestions to consider ****** 1) Bend test 2) Try a couple different balls like the AD333 Q-Star Tour Divide and the Callaway Warbird. 3) Bunker test 4) Green side chipping 5) Buy 2 more of those wedges and test for consistency 6) how did it feel ? You never really addressed the feel (which after watching you since day 1 ) ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ I love what you’re doing here Gary. There is a big market and interest for “ cheap “ clubs Kudos to you.

Nice one Gaz. One way to look at it is that they aren’t scammers, they’re actually offering a budget solution for most recreational golfers. What it does prove though is that Titleist are having our pants down on the RRP.
The issue is, this isn’t a Titleist, take the branding off it and no offence to fazer, ram etc, but you’ve got a budget wedge, if not, worse than a budget wedge as it damages balls and the quality built tolerances aren’t great. The next stage is to text on the course with fake vrs real, and fake vs budget, I’m just building up to it. I need some irons, driver and putter now 😅
@thejoker7323 Its a fake coy of a popular brand, that makes them scammers, if they won’t yo be honest just make a club with their own branding and advertise it as a budget club copied off the Vokey design
30 quid !!!! Sign me up 😂😂 But seriously, for a player who plays once a week and goes though 4-6 cheap balls a round these are probably a great option. It’s still half the price of the cheapest wedge on the market considering that Here in the U. S. a new vokey sells for $190.00 usd …4 wedges = $760. But 4 fakes = $150 Do you think there is $610 of performance difference to a weekend warrior ?
I bought a set of AliExpress last year. I bought 3 of the bronze finish with the black shaft. They play great! If I didn't have custom length shafts with larger grips, I would have no issues using them every round. If you're a good golfer or have a lot of money, buy the Titleist. If you're recreational, a beginner, or on a tight budget like I was in high school, these are perfect.
@@jameslovering9158 I actually bought the copper “SM9”, with black shafts, which weren’t actually sold in the US. The head has held up fine (for a $35 club). Some of the black on one of the 3 shafts came off when i removed a sticker. So I’m not sure about the coating process or if it’s the same way Titleist does it. But it’s fine for my use. I could also just repaint the area, it’s roughly the size of a dime. Overall, i was really impressed with the amount of customization you can do. Everything from head specs to shafts and grips. I don’t regret the purchase at all. I also have 2 authentic SM6, 3 SM7, 3 SM8, and a random SM9. So I’ve compared all generations of the wedges. As I mentioned, i would absolutely buy the Ali clubs if I wanted to try them out, lost a wedge and needed a single club, or was a beginner on a budget.
on the surface, I'd say that with a Vokey or other "name brand" you are paying for the product, and also for the engineering /research/development it took to make the final product (oh yeah, and a bit for marketing too). With a copy, you are only paying for the cost of manufacturing. The manufacturer of the copy does not have to figure out that they need to use 430 carbon steel, or which grind works best, That is all done by the name-brand guys, for a quality copy all they need is to use the same specs, or close and pump them out. if they are less concerned with matching the original specs, and they only care about the look of the copy (which is the case many times) its even easier for them. of course, there are other issues surrounding copies, including legal, ethical.....
Some great points. I would also add that a lot of quality engineering goes into making a golf club, far more than what can be seen on the surface and real products are manufactured to a lot higher standard as they have tighter tolerances on quality.
I lost my second hand 58° Mizuno which I loved. I just bought 3 NEW wedges on ebay £50. I buy 100 second hand balls for £15. I mostly only have time to visit the driving range. Unless you're shaving your 5 handycap down to 4 or have enough funds to get a fitted set 1/2 an inch shorter shaft or lie angle is not going to make a difference. You have to adapt to the different clubs. Once I get used to the new distances these produce they will be good enough for the foreseeable future. Test the gapping on a full set. That's the only thing that matters. They don't have to be the same as any quality manufacturer. Great content though! Keep it up.
In hs, we used to run a tiny triangular file in the groves of our wedges to add spin. This was 35+ yrs ago. The ball would get shaved on every wedge shot. It was fun. Coach found out and told us to get new wedges if we wanted to continue playing.
I recently replaced an older beat up wedge with a new milled face 56* “Musashi” wedge head from Aliexpress; $35 USD. It performs incredibly well, so much so that I’ve ordered the same head in 52*. If your older heads are beat, consider this as huge upgrade. I’m a 13 index. It’s already saving strokes from 85 yds in.
@@garymartingolf : actually the musashi is kind to the covers. I suspect the fake Vokey wedge had machining burrs in the grooves and were not properly be-burred as machined metals often require. I thought $35 was worth the risk, I hope the next one is as well made as the first I received. Really exceptional quality, which I believe is never a guarantee from Aliexpress.
Have you done a video on fake putters especially scotties, by this I don't mean just the looks but the feel off the face, would very much like to see that. Another great video Gaz keep them coming 👏

Yet another great vlog👍 Sam and yourself really have found a gap in golf content and are covering it well. Some very good points raised. Two points that I was really interested in was overall weight of club and that grooves are not milled to correct spec. From your dada it appears some golfers may gain some initial, advantage around the green. What I am interested in is to know how long the groove’s will last against the genuine club. I assume the fake club will break down after a hand full of rounds and create inconsistent back spin in the end, leaving the golfer frustrated 😩 Cheers

More reasonable prices for genuine golf clubs would increase sales and reduce the market for fake clubs. There’s loads of older golfers going round with ancient kit and who would benefit from better specified clubs if not fitted, higher lofts, senior shafts etc, but the new and nearly new prices are too high for them to take the plunge.
These are all topics I can’t wait to cover! The best reasonably priced equipment etc. Even if it’s not available fitted, like you said, just having better specs can help most people.
So so true, I’ve been saying this with the golf grips! Why copy the branding when you’re selling them at £2 each lol, they may aswel own them, we’d buy them anyway 😃

You can then mix n match and add weight to the tip, or butt of the shaft, etc. Basically create the clubs the way you want them. Could be a fun project. E.g. I saw some black 0311 gen 4 look-a-likes, I could get some KBS Tour stiff shafts, and those grips you talked about. Get them to my specs and build them myself… 🤔
I'm looking for new wedges to solve my gapping issue. Went on AliExpress and saw all sorts. Don't agree with fakes. Can anyone recommend budget wedges that are actually good value? I'm a family man, only play once a month, don't have brand new Vokey, Cleveland or Ping money. Any ideas?
@roejye06 Struggling to find them in 50 degrees and silver finish. Don't feel I'd trust the black finish to hold up well. Reviews look great though, milled faces, nice shape. Thanks for the suggestion.
I’m not saying you not a good golfer but if this test done on a robot speed and strike both same for the two clubs then I think that would ruffle a few feathers with results the average weekend warrior not fussed about a scuffed ball especially with the price difference
I'm still no clearer as to how you could identify the real from a fake if they were both on a shelf of a 2nd hand shop going for the same price.. What are the characteristics of a real wedge that you could pinpoint and say, see that's how you know a real Vokey wedge!
You must of been skipping through lol We mentioned the only visual giveaway we could spot that you don’t need a real club side by side to tell, is milling in the face. Thats the big giveaway! No milling in-between the grooves.
@@garymartingolf sorry Gary but I didn't skip a second. I'm saying, if they were side by side in a 2nd hand shop, how would you know which was the real one to compare the other one to. You mentioned the grip looked fake but felt good. The shaft was shorter but in a 2nd hand shop that wouldn't be a red flag as someone getting a half inch taken off a shaft wouldn't be unheard of. I'd be worried now to buy a club from a 2nd hand store after watching your video The video was great by the way, I really enjoyed it. I'm not criticising, I'm just wondering beyond the video...

"When your going through a ProV1 every round" ..... Wait so y'all telling me your not going through one every hole already? Must be doing something wrong here.
@@garymartingolf I imagine it must be tight line to review knock offs as to not look like you are supporting them and encouraging people to purchase over the real. Especially when fake performs well. I absolutely get what you are doing. With such a huge second hand golf business nowadays it’s nice for average golfer to know what to look for. I mean you do it everyday and some fool you on looks alone. It’s very scary. As a watch collector I know how good fakes can be.
I’m not sure these fake shafts would be so much of an issue in a wedge to be fair. It’s more the grooves and chewing balls, however, that might settle down.
Ali’s vokeys might be a bit dodgy but their fake Taylormade headcovers are identical to the real thing and wear no worse. Probably the same factory of course
Look amazing? From address they look weird. If you can't justify a new Vokey just buy a used one. 30 day return policy from UK based used golf club dealers.
When things are cheap and look real, people will, all we can do is try to educate them and hope they put the money towards a real club, even if it’s a used or older model. My ideas to play with a fake set vs a used set at the same price. I think this will show people the difference in performance and quality, especially in the woods and irons.

I'd be worried now to buy a club from a 2nd hand store after watching your video
The video was great by the way, I really enjoyed it. I'm not criticising, I'm just wondering beyond the video...
@@jimmahT The milling on the face...
The missing milling on the face is as obvious as it gets
@@edge21str would that possibly wear over time? I'm not referring to identifying a new club against fake, I'm referring to a 2nd hand Vokey compared to one of these fakes.
Golf clubs will soon need to check who’s cheating
Good point
The scam is the price of the titliest
Titleist scared to see this lol
Why did you delete my comment Gary? I genuinely find you funny, even when you are making a serious point, that's what makes you likeable and watchable......🤷♂
I haven’t deleted anything. UA-cam has settings that might remove things with swear words or anything offensive, but not me bud.
"When your going through a ProV1 every round"
..... Wait so y'all telling me your not going through one every hole already? Must be doing something wrong here.
lol 😂 True!
Just a thought are we getting over charged by the top brands these days
I think we are 😮
Ah I thought you were gonna try and bend the lie back
You didnt try and set the lie angle!!!
I know, I changed my mind because I want to build a full set first before we possibly break them 😬
I’d be curious to see what the fake wedge would do with a proper shaft in it.
I might compare fake vs real and fake vs budget clubs in playing vlogs. Just building a set together.
The shafts aren't bad. they go quite far.
Been debating buying some “fake” or blank wedges from china and putting some half decent shafts in them wondering what that will be like
I’m not sure these fake shafts would be so much of an issue in a wedge to be fair. It’s more the grooves and chewing balls, however, that might settle down.
Ali’s vokeys might be a bit dodgy but their fake Taylormade headcovers are identical to the real thing and wear no worse. Probably the same factory of course
Add lead tape
Lopez Charles Harris Richard Martinez Laura
Look amazing? From address they look weird. If you can't justify a new Vokey just buy a used one. 30 day return policy from UK based used golf club dealers.
1/4 inch on hundred shafts thats another shaft 😂
Ahahah 😂😅
You JUST DONT BUY clubs off Temu or Ali Express...
When things are cheap and look real, people will, all we can do is try to educate them and hope they put the money towards a real club, even if it’s a used or older model.
My ideas to play with a fake set vs a used set at the same price. I think this will show people the difference in performance and quality, especially in the woods and irons.
