It's not a polyrhythm, just count the whole song as 1-2-3-4-5-6 and you'll find the beat. The song is in 6/8 time signature, but it feels like 4/4 during the chorus.

I like how you admit that you can't catch the beat. These drummers you been picking are Top Shelf

Man, this is a great instance of classically trained artists, time signatures, bpm, key changes, add SO MUCH feeling to a song. You could not speak English and understand the feelings they are trying to convey. Music is literal magic, it transcends language

Daron Malakian is the guitar player in the jersey, and now has his own group Scars On Broadway. Shavo Ojadian is the base player, and now has his own weed business. They are both on Instagram. The singer is Serj Tankian, and he has done solo music. The drummer is John Dolmayan. They are fantastic!!! 🎙🎵🎼🎶

Polyrhythms are literally two different rhythms played at the same time, Rah. They’re not different rhythms played at different times. There are no polyrhythms in this song.
Danny Carey from your boys Tool is a master at playing polyrhythms. He’ll have his feet playing in three (ONE two three, ONE two three, etc.) while playing in four, five, six, etc. with his hands. “Pneuma” is a perfect example of this.
You might want to check out any of Neil Peart’s drum solos from the last twenty years or so to hear more polyrhythms. He plays three on the floor against about a million other rhythms in his hands. It’s great.

As an artist, you might want to look into "tempo changes". It has a similar effect as having strange bar structure, 7/8 (examples Tool) instead of a more common 4/4 like you're used to in pop music. Tempo changes just means the speed of the song changes, not necessarily the structure. But the human ear is so used to finding patterns, so when you do a tempo change, it sends a signal that something's off. The same thing happens to your ear when you hear bar counts. They are mathematically completely different, but they have that cool effect of sounding pleasingly distinct... as long as it's done well.

Favorite SOAD tracks; this one, Hypnotize and Mesmorize (you're supposed to watch them in order), CHOP Suey, Soldiers Side, Lonely Mountain, Aerials, basically every single one of their tracks.
They're an Armenian band which has been trying to raise awareness about the Armenian Genocide that has been ongoing. Listen carefully to their lyrics as they're quite deep.

Great reaction, Rah! System were part of what's known as Nü-Metal from the late 90s-early 2000s. My favorite by them would be I-E-A-I-A-I-O from the Steal This Album album. I think you'd enjoy it. My interpretation of the song, in a nutshell, is it's asking anyone in power, "How do you own everything when everything is not your own?" Everyone has their own walk of life, set of values, etc., but there is no particular order to things. Therefore, how can someone own disorder. Something along those lines. Either way, I love your reactions, man. Keep em coming.

It’s the time signature of the song that feels awkward until you lock in. Aside from the guitar solo/bridge part it’s all 6/8. Just count 1,2,3,4,5,6 and repeat. You’ll catch it immediately and feel the “pocket” 🏅 Yiddeee!

    • @kickinsnarehat
      @kickinsnarehat 3 роки тому +2

Oh... The outro part when you vibed on cadence of the signer is in standard 4/4 as well just for the last few bars.

Eyy man i am the same dude that comment on your last jinjer reaction with your sister.
First of all i really like soad and jinjer aswell as some other bands mainly because of the lyrics.
As you probably already know they are Armenian and jinjer is from Ukraine.
Both of them got alot of songs about their past and how they where involved in a war.
They literally use the music to tell the world what they experienced and not just how cool and wealthy they are which is an important part of artistry in general i think.
Anyways my favourite Soad songs are
    1# Atwa
    2# I.E.A.I.A.I.O.
    3# lost in hollywood

They played 30 songs in a shorter space in 2011, live at Waitakere Stadium, Auckland, New Zealand.
This was a few weeks after the February earthquake, and Serj stated that the band were upset that so many of our "brothers and sisters" had passed during the quakes.

I think it's a 3/4 polyrhythm, when listening to the first riff, count every note hit along with this:
    *1* 2 1 *2* 1 2 *3* 2 1 *4* 1 2

    • @ppaulisdeadd2710

      1 2 3 4

Actually , polyrhythms have nothing to do with this song which is beautiful but also very simple and linear. Time is 12/8 for all instruments if I'm not mistaken, so it's very linear ... No polyrhythm.
