Poor M.Patton, he deserved a life in Hollywood, instead he had to live in fear in hiding after Nightmare 2, so good to see him strong and talking in public nowadays.

Justin, You have become one of my favourite interviewers in style, tone, and because you always seem willing and to be able to comfortably go to deeper and darker subjects or moments in people's lives without it feeling like an invasion just by watching whether super familiar with them or not. You are so consistent in getting really good, genuine, and revealing interviews out of people. They stick with you. It's really impressive and so enjoyable and informative to watch. This was just another beautiful example of that. Mark was a great guest and I'm so happy he is able to share more about that history that was visible and invisible at the time and because of both the pain and progress seems to be easily 'forgotten' by some and missed knowing about by others- despite it being relatively recent history. I'm looking forward to watching the film. This interview went in a different direction than I anticipated at the start (not being a big horror fan, and with the million and a half other news stories a day, I hadn't seen anything about the work/talks Mark has been doing since he was 'found' years ago). This 44 minutes went far too quickly! Anyways, I hope you're well and thanks for this. I found it deeply moving in both happy & sad was. And nostalgic's the wrong word but, evocative of a different time in life with those similar mixed highs and lows and people who disappeared so quickly. too quickly. I read this comment this morning and have been thinking about it all day. I can't thank you enough. I usually talk to every guest for about an hour. I then try to edit it down to something that I think won't scare people off. I couldn't chip away at this one anymore and decided to hell with it, if someone's going to watch a 30 minute one they'll probably watch a 44 one. I know so many people look at the length and think, no way. Just the fact that I made you alone happy with it, I'm never going to obsess on length again!!! What a frigging AWESOME interview!!! As someone who has degrees in journalism & psychology, this is a great study in how to conduct a thought-provoking, honest and sincere interview with their interviewee. From the very beginning (plus the body language at how both men are sitting), Justin not only makes Mark feel welcome & comfortable, but he makes us, the viewers, the same way. I had just turned 14 years old when Nightmare 2 premiered in the theaters and I was getting bullied about being gay and it was watching this movie & Mark's performance that I now can look back and see why I was very interested in "Jesse." As a 51 year old HIV+ gay man (coming up on my 20 year anniversary of my diagnosis on March 22nd, 2023), I'm glad that Mark has found a healthy way of dealing with something that obviously destroyed him as a young gay man. I see that Mark's health has taken a turn for the worse this January and I am sending him all the love and strength I can give him!

Pardon my french, but man, Mark Patton kicks ass. It was intriguing to hear his stories about 1980s Hollywood and how he just decided to walk away rather than to deal with all the homophobic crap. Most other actors would've caved in and got a beard (or married a woman a la Rock Hudson). Yes, there's been a lot of strides for LGBT actors, but I'm sure that it still happens even today. Great interview, and I hope to one day see his documentary "Scream, Queen".

Wes Craven ignoring Nightmare 2 for his story involvement in Nightmare 3 sort of began a tradition that’s much more common nowadays: The creator of a franchise returns, and ignores everything that was previously done without them. James Cameron did this with “Terminator: Dark Fate” (which I loved) John Carpenter with the recent Halloween movies, etc. That said, I enjoy both Nightmare 2 and Nightmare 3 as very different movies, and people ought to watch and appreciate each of them without it being some kind of a contest.
You have to give props to A Nightmare 2 that it tried to do something new instead of being a retread like nearly every other horror sequel of the time. It's certainly alot more enjoyable than Freddy's Dead for example
They really should give Mark a cameo in Stranger Things 5, now that they’ve become totally up front that Will is gay and struggling with the closet. The realization hits you: That character’s entire story is a years-long revamp of Jesse in Nightmare 2.
We also need more male scream queens. I'm for women kicking ass and taking names (not just cause I'm a woman), but there should be men who should not be afraid to be a scream queen, gay or straight. There should be a horror movie that explores male scream queens. Have them best the living daylights out of what ever hell beast is after them.
Patton is right, Nightmare 2 made more money at the U.S. domestic box office than the original. Legacy is a different thing, but he's right about the numbers. So many people are just stupid and believe what they want to believe. I still run into morons who believe that Van Halen sold more albums with Sammy Hagar than David Lee Roth because of the chart positions of the albums at the time (the truth is quite different, VH with Roth have sold a certified 34 MILLION units in the U.S. as opposed to 18 million with Hagar). But lots of LIARS in society know how to drive a narrative, and they know if they just keep lying over and over and over again people will eventually believe the lie. Donald Trump is a master at this. He's a diabolical human being, be he understands how gullible and clueless the average person is when it comes to bullsh*t. Nightmare 2 is a good film. Freddy had not yet become the "caricature" that he would arguably become starting with part 3 and beyond. When the audience is cheering for and laughing at the killer in a horror film (like audiences did in 3 and beyond) the point of the horror film/s itself is lost.

I was promised this and that, BUT, it ALL came down to that ONE thing. Sexuality. I remember a meeting with a big time producer at his vacation home in Key West, Florida. He answered the door naked, with only a towel covering his junk. Not even wrapped around him. Just holding it over his business and let me explain, this was NOT an attractive man. He was a total cigar smoking, wine guzzling, sweaty obese disgusting man. So, when he realized I was totally not INTO anything he had to offer, which SCREAM was coming soon and he had worked with Neve Campbell, I was 100% blacklisted by that fat bast*rd. But, it's whatever now. I'm comfortable and writing, so revenge will be mine now that Hollywood is finally being EXPOSED. Thank you Mark, I didn't love part 2 particularly, but I absolutely LOVE your story because it's RAW TRUTH. Thank you, thank you, thank you. You helped me set aside those bitter feelings!
43 year old straight man here. I never realised the film was gay as a kid, camp definitely, but I always thought Jesse acted like most young lads would act in that situation. Still love the film now and still don’t think it’s overly gay. Maybe you have to be gay to pick up on a lot of the sub text.
