Prices in London are higher due to the house value, congestion charge plus getting stuck in traffic for hours. I've just underpriced a job. Not the brickwork side but demolition of the old wall took days longer. Mortar was so hard I had to grind the bed joints off a brick on edge . I re-pointed my victorian house in London in Lime mortar 10 years ago. £40 per square metre, £120 for “tuck pointing” using lime putty. I think you have to consider what the customer can/will pay. I wouldn’t pay £7k plus materials and scaffold for 13 days work. Sorry.
It doesn’t matter how many days it takes Paul. If someone earns £600 per day doesn’t mean they have over charged. It can do but can also mean they are good at what they do! Would you pay the same money for the same job if they took 2 extra weeks pissing about? Course you would, idiot.

Like the vid, and like the work (and the rates seem reasonable at £50 a metre….) do you and Drew do lime pointing on stone? 60 metres or so for our barn? (Near the job in this video)
Izzy, i work as a Project Manager within the industry. Its good practise to always factor Prelim cost into your price, fuel, insurances, site setup waste ect… as you also said you had to absorb some cost. One way of omitting this is by adding over heads and profits to your job. The industry standard is around 10-15%
Thanks so much mate, as I said..I don't often factor these prices in, but I need to start doing it from now on! Thanks for the information buddy, there's a new video out bow😊
Hi Izzy great video again . Thanks for your honesty….. I did ask how much you charge in your last video… ( per metre) . I was getting £45-£60 per metre (2001) so yes …£100.. £120 per metre for cut and struck … all day long … keep the good work up , all the best !
Price difference reflects the cost of living area I reckon you do a job in the west end of London it's going to be a big difference to doing a semi or something in Derby or somewhere
Hello Wayne from Australia, love your work, regarding your costing, I feel you should as Business you should allow for the cost of your vehicle, insurance, and clothes and Safety Keep up the great work 😊
We all made mistakes pricing jobs Izzy. You will learn fast because of that. Repointing is a skilled job so charge top dollar. Its also one of the dirtiest jobs a bricklayer takes on. If its not done right ie, cement mortar over lime will cause damp problems and any movement in brickwork will result in bricks cracking instead of bed and perp joints. You've already found that on that pointing job. Good luck in future.
Hi brother, I just did my house with a cement that has lime and cement I also added sand. I don’t know if I had lime mortar in my house , my house was built in the 60s Should I worry?
Sorry to hear that underpriced yourself. My experience of tradesmen is that they overprice all their work. I once had a plumber who charged me 450 pounds for about 2 and a half hours work and that was about 2010. I’d hate to think what they charge now. No wonder landlords aren’t fixing places up for their tenants.
the reason people charge more for working in london is pretty simple, everything cost more, travel time takes longer and most people have to travel because they cant afford to live there, fuel cost more, food cost more and parking could be £40-50 a day.
The price you charged for the pointing was really cheap. I’ve had about 6 quotes for pointing a 3 bed semi (3no half walls about 3 metres high each). The quotes ranged from £2k to £3k.
Just some advice on the pointing game buddy, if you have a south facing wall which needs repointing then always cover the wall with HESIAN… to protect from drying out too Quick, Been in the pointing game for 35years 👍
Yes mate, still enjoying it but now I pick and choose what jobs I do, also supply and erect our own scaffolding and supply all the reclaimed stone so all In all I’m happy 👍
I'm a plumber but a retired business man so always price a job high because its easy to find a way to reduce a price but not to increase it. But Izzy does a great job and should be paid for his obvious experience
Far to cheap mate, I'm guilty of this too.......! Don't undersell yourself pal.......! I've done a few lime mortar repoints and the finish you achieved looks very decent, I will be using the brush trick from now on bruva ✊️👍
I was disappointed to see the bricks on the customer window cill. Looking forward to more videos… they can’t complain though given you low ball day rate. Loving the videos great editing 👍🏻
13 days should be £ 5500 k for both of you. It's not business, it's easy, calculate days to do job and multiply by day rate plus materials plus little extra for run around. If you get job then great, if not move on. Your way to good to under sell, good luck
In rake outs, you'll burn 🔥 through blades, grinders, the work you will get from that job should pay back in spades, Get your van with your logo/ UA-cam, Instagram, etc, signed up, do a small biz course, it will pay back 10 fold. Hard work trying to hold onto a good employee, you do what you have to do to keep the show on the road , Good money in re-pointing dusty but easy on the body
Hiya Joe! Thanks so much, I wanna get that on my van..but can't lie ...I need a nicer van 😂 always hard work in this game, but the repointing is so rewarding ☺️ so pleased with how it turned out 💪 Drew is a brilliant lad, 1 in 100! Thanks for the support brother
Don't fall into the trap of having a bigger/ New van, the vans paid for, get your name on it, baby steps, Lad's with big new van's haven't the work to cover monthly repayments, pay wages bills, most are flexing, Money in the bank ( cash is king) employee wages, the van can wait. As you grow your channel, Good things will come, life is a marathon, not a race. Remember the old proverb 🐢 and 🐇
Tell drew to get rid of that bike and get a better brand (Honda Yamaha etc) or do his test and get a slightly bigger bike. The smaller ones need a lot more maintenance and don’t cope well with long commutes.
We’ve all done it at some point it hurts but you look like you still love the job, after 20 years I fucking hate it (mastic) I hate the people, the job everything about it so I try not to make that mistake but even after 20 odd years I still fuck it up occasionally, i price 99 percent over the phone if I fuck the quote I swallow it as it’s my “mistake” for not looking at it first. Not practical when most jobs are a couple of hours work. But the point being. Integrity !
Unfortunately, some have no respect for others property, in Drew’s case, the damage is compounded by his reliance on the motorcycle as his only means of transport.
Hi lzzy you are doing a great job and having fun making some brilliant videos superstar Ali Walsall west midlands england junction 10 m6 Walsall keep it up you
£50pm2 is pathetic. Up that charge. You don’t even use scaffold so you saved them £1500. I’d be charging £60 for sand and cement standard half round. Like goes up to £70 flushed £80 so on… lesson learned. Know your worth bud.

Hi Izzy great video again . Thanks for your honesty….. I did ask how much you charge in your last video… ( per metre) . I was getting £45-£60 per metre (2001) so yes …£100.. £120 per metre for cut and struck … all day long … keep the good work up , all the best !
Thanks so much mate really appreciate your support ☺️ have a brilliant weekend, and I'll be changing my prices for the future ☺️
Price difference reflects the cost of living area I reckon you do a job in the west end of London it's going to be a big difference to doing a semi or something in Derby or somewhere
Hello
Wayne from Australia, love your work, regarding your costing, I feel you should as Business you should allow for the cost of your vehicle, insurance, and clothes and Safety
Keep up the great work 😊
Thanks so much Wayne, really appreciate it! Hope your keeping well!
What mix should i use to repoint my house google gives me too many different answers , from 3-1 to 5-1 and additives 🤯
What about over pricing do you do refunds just asking or is it swings and roundabouts 👍🏿
Poor Drew, what a liberty
we charge around 80/m2 for labour and materials , bucket handle finish !!
Oh wow, that's a decent price 😮 I'll have that 😂
Hi brother, I just did my house with a cement that has lime and cement I also added sand.
I don’t know if I had lime mortar in my house , my house was built in the 60s
Should I worry?
Mixer, no stand, steve and Alex style
Welldone Izzy nice lime job
Thanks very much Ian😊 hope you had a great weekend
Did you have a fight with a lawnmower round the back of that car 😂😂
Nice job as always
Thanks mate
If charging £75-£100 per square meter is that with materials included? Cheers iz
You are a good mate to Drew.
In South Yorkshire its about 25 and 35 a m2, if u priced a job at 50 m2 around here u would have no chance of winning it wish j could charge 50 a m2
Just some advice on the pointing game buddy, if you have a south facing wall which needs repointing then always cover the wall with HESIAN… to protect from drying out too Quick, Been in the pointing game for 35years 👍
Thanks so much mate! Really appreciate the information 😊 wow 35 years doing this😮 are you still enjoying it mate?
Yes mate, still enjoying it but now I pick and choose what jobs I do, also supply and erect our own scaffolding and supply all the reclaimed stone so all In all I’m happy 👍
Do you wet the hessian?
Nice cut gee 👋
Hi mate, what phone are you using? Thinking of going back to a phone for vlogging and just use the Gopro for headcam.👍
Hiya Andy, it's a Google Pixel 6 ☺️
@@IzzytheBricky 👍
I'm a plumber but a retired business man so always price a job high because its easy to find a way to reduce a price but not to increase it. But Izzy does a great job and should be paid for his obvious experience
Thanks so much for your advice Richard 🙂 hope your having a great week so far
I'm in Derby. I often get jobs which require doorways, lintels, garage conversions etc mostly in the Derby area. Do you do work in this area?
Far to cheap mate, I'm guilty of this too.......! Don't undersell yourself pal.......! I've done a few lime mortar repoints and the finish you achieved looks very decent, I will be using the brush trick from now on bruva ✊️👍
Thanks so much mate, easily done and hopefully won't be making that mistake again mate! All the best, and there's a new video out now 😊
I was disappointed to see the bricks on the customer window cill. Looking forward to more videos… they can’t complain though given you low ball day rate. Loving the videos great editing 👍🏻
Thanks very much Martin appreciate the support 😊 there's a new video out now, went up few hours ago! Happy to see your enjoying the videos 😊
Of course they are going to charge more down London the price of living is way more than up north
Should have got sniff sniff on the case for drew, every day is a learning day izzy, I do my jobs for a lot less than that, have a good week,
Thanks so much mate, always learning in this game ain't we! All the best brother! New video came out earlier on today 😊 hope you had a good weekend 😊
Izzy no weep holes?
Limes balling up😢, wait till the lime leaching starts. Worst mixing knowledge ever. Shocking!!!
That must be soul destroying removing all mortar between the courses just saying from North of Newcastle 👍 🇬🇧
Just coming on to watch Isaac, there’s an s in the thumbnail instead of a c mate just so you know 👍🏼
Izzy and drew always inspiration
13 days should be £ 5500 k for both of you.
It's not business, it's easy, calculate days to do job and multiply by day rate plus materials plus little extra for run around.
If you get job then great, if not move on.
Your way to good to under sell, good luck
Didnt rake out deep enough and didnt saturate the wall enough. Brickwork conservation professionals would are appauled.
Heard that diesel or wd40 helps buff up?
Its one of them switch off jobs it can get a bit tedious after a while😂
100% mate😂
Why not use a grounding bag so much more efficient
Don't fall into the trap of having a bigger/ New van, the vans paid for, get your name on it, baby steps, Lad's with big new van's haven't the work to cover monthly repayments, pay wages bills, most are flexing,
Money in the bank ( cash is king) employee wages, the van can wait.
Integrity !
Thanks for the comment, mate really appreciate it and cheers for the insight, it is a shame, but glad the job turned out well
Unfortunately, some have no respect for others property, in Drew’s case, the damage is compounded by his reliance on the motorcycle as his only means of transport.
Hi lzzy you are doing a great job and having fun making some brilliant videos superstar Ali Walsall west midlands england junction 10 m6 Walsall keep it up you
Thanks so much buddy, glad your enjoying the videos 🙂
Sort him a better bike out 😎
If you moved to London you wpuld earn double what you charging and never be short of work
Should be around 10 k for all that messing around 🤣
Definitely mate
Izzy underpricing jobs? It happens to everyone.
you missed a bed joint on the repointing...sorry me just being pickey.
£50pm2 is pathetic. Up that charge. You don’t even use scaffold so you saved them £1500. I’d be charging £60 for sand and cement standard half round. Like goes up to £70 flushed £80 so on… lesson learned. Know your worth bud.
