I've took note of feedback from the previous video, and I've cut down on the jokes for better pacing. They're still there in the video, but I didn't squeeze in a joke at the end of every paragraph, do let me know if this made the video much more enjoyable for you! :)
It was definitely better in this video
You called us shit...................YOU ARE SHIT( bro sorry just a joke)
I think its good your experimenting, love your channel, I always look forward to your videos. Thanks for making me laugh every video since you were at 2k!
yeah def better
YES. I hate jokes in UA-cam videos like this
Thank you for digging into such a groundbreaking issue.
Now I wish I made that pun during the video
Fr 😂
Oh no! The Pun-lice is coming for us!
😐
S-Tier pun
I think a 1/3 chance of getting something bad (a non-fatal fall damage usually also throw you in a ton of mobs) is already bad enough for me to not digging straight down
I did heard a rumor that the 'don't dig straight down' rule was originally due to early terrain generation lacking bedrock, which meant digging straight down could lead to falling into the void. I also discovered that during development, the bottom of the world alternated between bedrock and a lava sea before finally stabilizing into bedrock by alpha. It's interesting to learn about the evolution of Minecraft's terrain generation, and it makes me appreciate the game's current state even more. Also, I have to say, the video was hilarious! The jokes had me laughing out loud. I really enjoyed watching it, and I hope your channel continues to grow at a fast pace!"
Glad you enjoyed the video! And yeah, someone told me that the rumour started off like that and eventually became the 'lava reason' we know today.
We mostly learnt "Don't dig straight down" from screw the nether.
@@somebody_2837 yea lmao
The joke about dream stans and statistics had me _dying_ lmfao
If you want to dig straight down, place yourself exactly between two blocks and then dig straight down so in case there's a cave, you won't fall immediately as the edge of the other block will safe you from that. When you reached your desired level, place a magma block under the one and a soul sand block under the other block to create a water elevator. Easy
It’s not like he mentioned that in video or anything like that.
Remember you need kelp!
i'm too lazy to do this + i dont want to waste extra durability on my pick. usually i just offhand a water bucket so if i fall in lava or into a giant cave i can save myself
@@gassug2 With the Caves and cliffs update In my experience the caves are EVERYWHERE so you don’t even need to dig down anymore
@@Bitzor well these caves don’t always have diamonds.
Mining in Minecraft is something very debatable, many prefer tunnels, others dig down and others don't even explore the caves, so I'd say that what's best for you is already good :)
Ngl "Don't even explore the caves" made me laugh not because of how they play but because I just imagine them telling their friends "I'm gonna go play Craft!".
@@XayXayYT bro this made me giggle 💀
@@XayXayYT reminds me of that time I got banned for "xraying" because i was searching for caves and found some with diamonds, like bro if you mine diamonds you go strip mining in 19.1? lmao
It's better you dig a 2 block gap than a 1 block gap, Saving up durability is good 👍
I've miraculously stumbled upon this channel while browsing Minecraft content and I absolutely love it, especially your jokes. The fact that you're a relatively small channel also makes this a little more personal and gosh darn funny. And I like how analytical you are with the content!
Bottom line, gen Z sense of humour + good content = subscription, keep it up
Glad you enjoy the videos my dude, there's more to come!
And yeah, gen Z humour style is perfect, it's either randomly, ironically or actually funny :p
@@XayXayYT bro is the oversimplified of Minecraft
For context oversimplified is a history UA-camr who is able to make educational and yet very funny videos with modern humor
Gen Z humour is at least not millennial humour
I still find staircase mining beneficial for a reason:
A simple way out to the surface again, without having to put down your mined block to get out, and mining them back again to get down to a potentially discovered cave and waste that durability
Please do a 4 block tall staircase at least :p
Water bucket
you should do this but also for the nether, it’d be cool to see how often you hit lava vs bedrock
I think you will more often than not stumble across lava at y=17
I now need some programming socks so i can be smarter
i love the smooth transition at 10:51 to mending video. I really hope youll get more popular, because this content is of really high quality, though it could contain more advanced content (such as usage of debug screen, F3+a etc.
Yeah I always try to give people a reason to click on the previous videos, it makes it more enticing rather than "check out the rest of my stuff" y'know?
And thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the video and I'll definitely keep that in mind for any future tests I do.
Yeah but it's Minecraft so you know you'll hit that 7 percent lmao
The two block method is the method that I use, the only time I've ever died using that method was when I wasn't paying attention. If you ask me a 34% chance of ending up in a dangerous situation is much to high for me, and something you didn't take into account with your "yellow zone" coordinates is that there could be mobs in there to finish you off, so the number of inescapable fatalities could be higher, so even though there's a high likelihood that you will be fine, just don't.
“He had one major oversight,he didn't travel in time” (3:14)
Imagine not travelling to the future smh
I agree with everything in this video! Recently I actually have been minning more and more straight down as the time goes on. Im not afraid of death due to 1st getting good boots and the water bucket incase. And when i need to go up to the surface I dont have to take 1h going up but instead i can place a ladder in my hole i mined or just use water to get up
Bro you actually had quite a few funny jokes that made me chuckle and I am incapable of experiencing humor. Also I loved the water temple song from OoT! Also the Phoenix Wight music. Also the mambo no. 5 joke was also pretty good tbh lol
Glad you loved the humour and the music choices my dude :)
Honestly one idea that I think could make a really good video is the history of wireless stasis chambers in Minecraft. Wireless stasis chambers used to be a thing that could literally save you from death in ANY scenario, basically making you immortal and being the most OP thing in the game. You used to be able to set one up using item shadowing (which was patched in a recent update) or by using a fishing rod glitch (which was also patched). I believe there are still ways you can make one, but I don’t know how to exactly.
Is it the thing where you drop an ender pearl and use a trapdoor
@@XayXayYT That’s just a regular stasis chamber. The problem with that design is that you need someone to actually be there to flick the trapdoor when you want to escape a dangerous situation and be teleported to safety. With a wireless stasis chamber, you can teleport yourself from any distance or in any dimension, and this works in singleplayer and on Hardcore too. It doesn’t matter if you’re falling into the void or angered a Warden or fell into lava, with a wireless stasis chamber you can escape all of those situations in an instant.
@@paperyape if the chunk is loaded with a chunk loader of course
@@unitedairlanes5500 yeah

Never have I ever seen someone made me entertained and laughed about a simple topic for 22mins str8 😭. This my 6th video I've watched today.

Will do, I'm glad you enjoy the videos!
Addicted to your content. Keep it up!
There's more to come! Glad you enjoy them so far!
I haven't looked deeply into this, but I heard a rumor that the real reason "don't dig straight down" was a rule is because early terrain generation had no bedrock, so digging straight down was a virtual guarantee you'd fall into the void.
After looking at the changelog in the wiki, it seems in the dev process, the bottom of the world flipped between bedrock and a lava sea, and was finally stabilized into bedrock by alpha.
Huh, that's an interesting thing to look into
8:25 caves and cliffs update is also the reason why people now think diamonds are just next step of iron
3:53 dude you're a beautiful wordsmith
Hell yeah
My new favorite minecraft UA-camr. Bro keep up the great work. Funny, informative, and entertaining

A bit off topic, but I love the jokes you write for this vid (Especially the Mumbo no 5 one). Made me laugh from how unexpected it is.

@@XayXayYT Yeah as per usual, but the thing is this video didn't change my opinion like usual, since I always have dug straight down, but it definitely cemented my decision to stick to it lol
@@mina_cious Damn what a chad
0:16 Good choices,as they are all some of,if not the best at their respective skill
One of my first worlds (back in alpha days), I was digging a 3x3 vertical mineshaft, but hit a vein of gravel directly over a deep pool of lava. The gravel fell and I followed. These days, I craft a bunch of ladders and dig straight down placing ladders as I go and crouching on the ladder to stay in place. Clinging to the ladder may be slower, but it's nearly 100% safe. I hate dropping into a pitch black cave surrounded by creepers, zombies and skeletons almost as much as dropping straight into lava.
Hi, old player from beta. As one who dealt with this rumor and shared it. (Used to play back up til 1.8 beta) I’ll start with the work you did, really cool and having a set of numbers and depth to be able to dig down. But where this comes in important is for exploration of caves from being already within. Not everyone was keeping track of depth or utilizing coordinates I’ve seen too many downward digs in a rush to get as deep as possible leading to lava. But aside from that your info is rock solid but it only takes the one where you fall into lava or fall damage that has mobs (not everyone had “the fastest pick in the west”) so they could and many times have spawned as there were a lot of weaving caves. But then when you dropped and didn’t burn your inventory on death you had to go back down which meant a new hole. And finally when you dig straight down it felt way longer hopping and filling to get to the top vs the staircase after a full haul. It was the definitive way due to consistency at any location and time. Again loved this video and thought I’d be more informative in case you were curious of players experience and reasons (if you were not just going over the why as a full skit)
I definitely considered adding a few points here and there, but ultimately cut them out for fear of drawing out the video longer than it already is. I do appreciate your input though and glad you loved this video!
Your comment made me realise that I should've also mentioned Survivor Bias in the test, in which those that died by digging down were more likely to advise others not to, whereas those that were fine most likely said nothing about it.
When it comes to avoiding lava damage, I always carry a fire resistance potion in the hotbar myself. Only to be used in emergencies.
I always have one if I'm digging below y=20, or am in the Nether.
Early on I usually don't mind digging straight down just because there's not much to lose but generally I prefer just building up a nice home and so spend the most of my time tree chopping and not really mining. Then once the house is done I start a farm or fishing until I get a God Rod and from there I proceed with the mining. By this point I have some decent exp and a few polices of armor so I travel the mines normally
Mumbo Jumbo had a great test but then the test got outdated when Minecraft released Caves & Cliffs so the test was run again by Xayllernste
4:05 LMAO I remembered your diamond video and was waiting for this self-aware moment :D well done
Ay, it was unlucky timing but I'd be lying if it wasn't funny lmao
Really well made!
Thank you!
Even if digging straight down wouldn't be dangerous at all, you would still have to work your way back up to the surface, so i suppose it would save at least a bit of time and tool durability to dig a staircase right away rather than doing both, unless i'm overlooking a convenient way to go straight up. Plus a nice custom mine entrance looks way more aesthetically pleasing than a deep 1 block wide hole in the ground.
i'm very often just digging 1 block gap with sound subtitles(to hear lava) and a water bucket, that's safely enough to me.
I like the jokes, keep em comming
Glad you do!
Last time your usage of Persona music was giving me flashbacks, now DDLC and Ace Attorney music wth man (You have a great taste)

if you have an elytra and fire resistance then you can mine straight down completely safely
*water bucket has left the chat*

@@stargazer-elite you can fail an mlg. It's much harder to mess up gliding down with an elytra
@@Vetrical yeah that’s why I added a second reply it was meant to be joke but then I was like oh shoot and typed the second reply
well with an elytra you could try to save yourself only to fly face first into a wall
The real solution is fire resistance potion and slow falling potion

I have a great time watching the video also thanks for some useful information, now I'm gonna dig straight down in my hardcore Minecraft world
Absolute chad move my dude, it may be the dumbest move to dig straight down in hardcore but it would look cool as hell if you survive through it lmao
Much like what I used to do when I started my Minecraft journey. SO nostalgic
I generally don’t dig straight down unless I have keep inventory on because I can never find my way out of I do and end up dying to mobs.

As a high school student taking AP stats, this video was hilarious.
All the best my dude, I've always called stats the "fun part of maths" especially when compared to Calculus lmao
It's just engrained in my spine like I can't bring myself to dig straight down it feels so wrong
“You may not rest now, there are monsters nearby”

9:35 dude your probability skills are GODLIKE
I usually use ladder method. You crouch on the ladder while digging straight down. If there's nothing underneath, drop down and place ladder. If there's a cave, bring your water bucket to go down. And also continue making ladder if you're scared of mobs.
You'll need at least 2 stacks of ladders (or 45-50 logs at least, as you also need the wood to make torch, tools, barrel/chest and crafting table)
My main issue with that is it sort of defeats the point of digging down, which is efficiency. While you will keep your tool durability, it takes longer to mine while crouched on a ladder, and thus you will end up better off digging the 2-wide tunnel and making a water elevator after as well for more easy ascent and descent than climbing on ladders. I can totally appreciate the simplicity of just making a bunch of something, placing them as you go, and then never having to worry about it again whereas setting up the water can be a bit time consuming in itself, but I guess that's the great thing about this game, we can all do whatever we want
2:08
nice, doki doki music
I loved the ddlc music, I love ddlc and it made me very nostalgic
"Mumbo Jumbo? more like Mambo No. 5, because I need a little more truth in my life" bars
Very nice
I feel like this kind of test really only works if you do a bunch of coordinates over a series of different worlds and then finding the average. These stats only apply to YOUR specific seed. Idk if mumbo only did one world too, but if he did then he gets the same critique
Man you sure like ace attorney and doki doki you you use their soundtrack.gotcha!!
w video great job!
Glad you liked it!
Even if you were guaranteed to survive, digging straight down can be a pain because itʼs hard to get back *up*. You could pillar up but then you just wasted all the effort to get down. You could bring ladders, if you donʼt land in a big cave. But not as easy as just walking up.
"Here is the same pie chart in 3D" made me cackle
Heh I'm glad it did, it made me laugh while editing as well :p
I always dig straight down. Is just im not an idiot and only dig one block down. I dig in a 2x2 i never fall into holes plus it makes ot easy to set up the bubble elevator that way cause all i have to do is use the same blocks u went down with to go up (implying that you have the resources for the elevator anyway
new video les goooo
Hope you enjoy it my dude!
I always mine down standing in two blocks. If there is anything under me, I'll see it before I die, and it's also a lot more time efficient than the staircase method. I just set up ladders and some water to jump down fast.
The main reason digging straight down is not so dangerous anymore is because if you have a water bucket in your inventory, you can quickly save yourself if you fall into lava. If you immediately place the water bucket when falling into lava you only loose a few hearts. And if you have good armor, falling into a crowd of mobs isn't much of a danger either. The only real risk is falling from a big height into a large cave. But even most large caves are not deep enough to kill you completely from fall damage. And if they do, if you are not on hardcore and you are close to your respawn base, finding the hole where you died and going down with flowing water isn't difficult.
i dont even know how its possible for Xay to get this many subscribers in such a short span of time
Honestly me neither, I'm surprised at the support I'm getting recently
Heh that sound effect was good with the skeletons 1:19
Love the DDLC music
I dig down very lot of times, but getting into lava or deep cave is actually rare, especially if you had water bucket in left hand, you can survive both
You can also be a modded survivalist which divides into 3 more categories
Before the 1.7 update (that changed the world,) Minecraft's underground was like swiss cheese, after 1.7, caves became rarer

I always dig straight down. I have the best gear, so I can tank a fall into lava or a long fall in general. But I still dig straight down in early game Minecraft too. If I die then how much progress is lost? Maybe a stone pick and some wooden tools?
double dig stand on 2 blocks seam and be safe and fast lol great video love it
Glad you enjoyed it!
10:20 words of wisdom
I never got why people don't use the two block strat when digging straight down. Just stand in the middle of two blocks and dig, you'll get double the resources and guaranteed will not fall into anything before seeing it since you'll have a one block safety net. And it wastes less durability on your tools than staircasing.
Before:there is a chance to fall in lava
Now:they're is almost a 100% chance you will fall and die instantly
(atleast that's what I thought)
Ah, Mumbo Jumbo's big oversight: not being psychic!
