    i've been waiting for your reviews, the fact that something the size of a 3ds can run a new AAA games at settings not far off an actual console (the XSS) is legit mind-blowing to me. I would assume that with later updates/optimization the game will better utilize the hardware, but even if not it still looks and runs well enough that I wouldn't mind that much. If I ever do play starfield this is definitely one of the ways I would do it.

      @@Xion_Stellar I like clamshells however the trackpad appears to be in such an awkward spot and most indy games and turn based tactical you need mouse functions. So I would lean more into the Win 4.
      I do feel like no handheld is the complete package since there are no standards like desktop/laptop. But GPD comes the closest.
      The Asus Ally is overrated. No keyboard, no trackpad, no oculink. The Lenovo Legion giant screen and at least has trackpad but no oculink and no keyboard.

    Hey Phawx thanks for the preview. I was wondering for your review, do you have any chance of also comparing the 7840U model to the cheaper 7680U model? I am asking because the Win Mini is primarily a low wattage device and I have a small feeling that differences between the chipsets may be neglibible at those lower TDPs. Looking forward to the full review of this beauty. Hoping also for some commentary on fan noise at those TDP thresholds too.

    • @Jimmys_TheBestCop
      @Jimmys_TheBestCop 11 місяців тому +3

      If you are talking about the ryzen 7640u there is a difference on the onboard GPU 780m vs the 760m and its significant. The CPU part of the APU is basically the same. But you are taking a big hit in the GPU part of the APU. However if you plan to stream to the GPD or use occulink for eGPU I would probably go for the 7640u to save money. Not sure the price of the GPD Win Min but the GPD Win 4 7640u is $700 which is only $50 higher than the high end steam deck but you get better screen, cpu/gpu, keyboard and at least adequate trackpad. So its not actually a bad deal. Especially if you are more into streaming from main system or plan to use a dock eGPU.

    So the Steam deck seemed to do about 16 FPS at times. The next steam deck revision should do better than 35 fps then otherwise they are wasting money making the new steam deck. In the spirit of the Alienware Alpha Steam Machine. Valve should be aiming for 60 fps across AAA titles with their hardware. @Umamis_Boy 11 місяців тому

      @@sniperdude425 I own both the Win 4 and Win Max 2. The Win Max 2 is definitely heavier and less ergonomic, but since the screen is so big, you can extend your arms and rest the device on your legs and still see the game just fine. It's also much easier to type on and use just as a laptop. The resolution is also higher and the analog sticks are significantly better than the Win 4's. I think the Win Max 2 is just so awesome for many uses, and it has better thermals.
      The Win 4 is really cool and small, and definitely more comfortable, but it's still pretty heavy and definitely still not pocketable. It also gets warmer to the touch at the same tdp. In all honesty, I think the Win Mini will be the best pocketable device they've ever made. The Win 4 is like the Nintendo Switch. It's still too big to pocket, so you'll still need a case or bag to carry it safely. The Win Mini will solve that. The only issue is that the Mini will be way worse to type on than the max, and will be too small to use as a laptop. All 3 designs have trade-offs. I personally prefer the Win Max 2 because it's my everything device. I don't need to move files or worry about what games are downloaded where. I can read manga, do my taxes, watch media, handheld game, and now that I'll be getting the G1, I'll be able to have a desktop-like experience by simply plugging it in. I've purchased several gaming laptops in the past, and the Win Max 2 is by far the coolest and most useful.

      @@thymewellspent Some emulator of retro games doesn't work out of the box and requires some workaround. Also not being natively landscape is just weird decision of these type of hardware design. I mean, they still treat this like a prototype.

    Great video. Hey, just an idea: To address your concern about decreasing viewership why not focus on more steamdeck related content? The number of people interested in Steamdeck may now greatly outweigh those interested in these other competitor devices. Eg: I myself was interested in GDP, Ayaneo etc but once I got a Steamdeck my interest in watch youtube videos about competitors waned... I now just watch an occasional video of yours just to support you, despite not being thaaaat interested in the competitors.

      Respectfully disagree. There's not really much to cover about the Steam Deck these days besides "But Will It Run..." and I feel like competing with @CryoByte33 for the "definitive settings and optimizations" niche is silly. I watch for the "advancement of the handheld space" content and hope he continues debunking the marketing BS companies like ASUS pump out while highlighting the massive innovations made by, for example, GPD with the G1.

    • @CHICKENmcNUGGIESMydude
      @CHICKENmcNUGGIESMydude 10 місяців тому

      exactly the same 6 core 12 threads vs 8core 16 threads Run games exactly the same if you have 4 core 8 threads thats when u see a difference also the graphics in the 7640u is runnig at 2600mhz while the 7840u is running at 2700mhz u wont tell a difference at all the only real difference ull see is if you crank up the textures on the 7840u ull be able to maybe get away with high to medium texturs while the 7640u ull have to keep the textures low or medium cause of the 8 core units compared to the 7840u 12 core gpu units

    Can this device be used handheld at 28W or 30W? I don’t care about battery life, as I play tethered to AC.
    Some folks are saying that the Win Mini runs too hot above 25W because it has a small surface area for heat dissipation.

    • @akeemmorrison2589
      @akeemmorrison2589 11 місяців тому

      With a case and 20-25w is fine for me. at 28w the right side is like a furnace but again a case kind of helps this.
