It turns into a prince after fighting the mouse king and takes Clara to a fantastic kingdom. The libretto was written by Ivan Vsevolojsk and Marius Petipa based on the version created by Alexandre Dumas from a tale by Hoffman entitled The Nutcracker and the Mouse King. The musical composition of this work was created by the Russian composer Tchaikovsky and the genesis of the choreography was done by Marius Petipa, who had to leave it to his assistant Ivanov because of major health problems. The ballet was first performed on December 18, 1892 at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia. It later became an international success. Today, this work is arguably one of the most popular ballets in the dance world and certainly a holiday classic. This is not the full ballet, nor is it only the 20-minute suite. But it has all of the sections that most people will recognize. I have played (cello) in the full Nutcracker ballet hundreds of times with various orchestras. I remember in one particular group we played it so often that the cellists and the bassists had a competition going for who could keep the music book closed the longest before having it to open it up to read the notes off the page! Needless to say the bassists won, as they had way fewer notes to memorize!

Christmas is coming, so here I am listening to the Nutcracker as every year, even if it's november my house it's already decorated, great recording, Reiner got the tempo and the orchestra right.
My God what great remastering. Recorded in 1959? A powerful performance....this is about 3/4 of the ballet just the latter part of act I missing.....Would've liked to hear the Forest Scene though!
Oh this is good timing with the holidays on the way! This ballet always gives me a magical feeling. Just listening to the first couple of sections so far but I like his tempi, seems like many orchestras play it rather slowly these days! Interesting, looks like they skipped most of the first act, including the battle, etc. Bit of a shame as there is some exciting music there. Still what they included is played very well.
It always amazes me how light-footed and dance-like is this rendition by Fritz Reiner, who always seems to be an immovable, ox-like, stone-faced conductor (see the "The Art of Conducting" doc)

I love this wonderful music and ballet!!!😍🌹
Pareillement un délice
Very nice and well known ballet. Thank you.
Christmas is coming, so here I am listening to the Nutcracker as every year, even if it's november my house it's already decorated, great recording, Reiner got the tempo and the orchestra right.
Très juste pour cette analyse
Superb despite being incomplete. Only Doratis complete version is better. I can listen over and over and never tire of it.
Amazing. I also love all the album covers of your uploads; they all look so unique.
Thanks :)
very good ~~~~!!!!***
I've seen the entire Nutcracker on TV and I really don't think it's for kids, there are some grotesque creatures in there that gave me nightmares.

Not complete, but the best performance of the many I have heard
It always amazes me how light-footed and dance-like is this rendition by Fritz Reiner, who always seems to be an immovable, ox-like, stone-faced conductor (see the "The Art of Conducting" doc)
Très bien parlé
Lovely. Thank you.
