  • Don't Buy the 2020 Ford Explorer ST Without Watching this Review. I received the 2020 Ford Explorer ST to review for you all and these are my thoughts on the 2020 Ford Explorer ST after nearly a week with it. The new Explorer ST is a unique performance option from Ford and it is one that I truly appreciate in this market of 3 row crossover SUVs.
    Special thanks to Crossroads Ford in Apex NC for letting me check out the 2020 Ford Explorer XLT 4 Cylinder.

    Not sure whats going on with that particular car... I've had my ST for over 5 mos. 7000 miles now, No whistling, no seat problems, no problems at all. love the telescopic... steering column, & folding mirrors. I usually drive in normal mode, sport mode on occation... i get anywhere from 21.5 to 23.7 mpg
    & just about everytime I drive it I hit at least 100 mph at some point... extremely fun car to drive. With 5600 lbs tow weight, sport mode w/manual shift, sand & snow modes I feel like I have several rigs all in one... & I lay down the 3rd seat for my husky, she goes everywhere w/me.. plenty of room for her & she has her own climate. I've owned mine 3 days now. I traded a 2015 Subaru STI that was pro tuned lightly modded running 310WHP and 360WTQ. I was looking to get into an SUV again but wanted to try and keep some level of fun. Your comment about the throttle is referred to as "turbo lag" you will feel this effect on any turbo charged vehicle unless equipped with some form of anti-lag. Drive mode switching analysis is fair, definitely annoyingly slow from my STI. As far as ride, coming from the STI it's very smooth, I test drove a TRD Pro 4runner which was like riding in a cloud so I found the ST nice provided its performance based. Coming from the limited STI I love the creature comforts of the ST, I find the massage chairs a bit weak though :( ... I took it on a very curvy state park mountain road I liked to blast up in my STI and I have to say, sport mode in ST and it was handling it almost as well as that STI for a big SUV. I hate the wheels on the ST ( but I usually hate ALL factory wheels) overall I love it and can't wait for the aftermarket to start getting some goodies available

    I love my 23" now that we figured out what that annoying clunk was coming from the front end. It took two trips to the dealership and a loaner car, but I got it back and while they were removing the right front strut for replacement they noticed the upper bearing had separated. So they installed a new RF strut, upper bearing, strut mount, and did an alignment.
    Reading through the invoice it says “Found SSM 52405 for front strut noise and vehicle falls within build date of SSM criteria" So Ford is aware of this issue somewhere along the line. I know a lot of folks are experiencing this same issue and no one seemed to have a solution I could find. Except that the dealerships were telling them it was normal. DON'T buy that crap if yours is making what sounds like a strut or ball joint noise from the front end!!
    This SUV runs like a bat out of hell, especially in sport mode. It has a stiff ride and handles like a go cart instead of a 4600lb SUV.

    I've had my 2020 Explorer ST for 2 years. The ride and power are great but other than that I've had multiple issues. I've had 2 sensors go out and received the blue screens of death. Another issue I've had is the back up safety features. I hooked up a bike rack that sticks out a little over 2 feet. I programed the computer showing I have a 3 foot trailer. When backing up, the truck violently locks the brakes every couple of feet thinking you're going to hit something. My latest issue are now the lifters. It's been in the shop a week now with the parts on back order. I wouldn't recommend this truck without a warranty.

I like performance but I am frugal and there were no SUVs except the AMG GLA 45 that were under 50k and that AMG is small--way smaller then even my Stinger.My only critique is they should have used the 3.5 TT with 450 HP to make this a sub 5 sec to 60 SUV.Have to see how these holdup and let Ford work any kinks out.

Ford keeps pricing themselves upward into the premium levels, but they don't have the materials or quality yet to count as an acura (or even some of the new Mazdas). For significantly cheaper I'd have to lean towards the Telluride. While FWD, it has an engine that will last a lot longer and probably has a nicer interior. Haha yea this won't be anyones dream car but it is cool nonetheless. Oh yea there are many vehicles you can get for 60k lol. You can get an S model Macan no options as well as an X5. Some might like that this is a ford it won't be too pretentious. I did a review on a Porsche Cayenne Idk if you saw that, not many people did lol. I already filmed a video of me comparing this to the Lincoln Aviator which also costed about the same as this and has the same Engine. Thank you again my friend for watching

    What do you mean the noise is generated through the speakers? And is the ST tuned differently than the platinum? I'm between the two and I'm wondering is one better to drive than the other.

    • @MeynMotorGroup
      @MeynMotorGroup  4 роки тому

      Every time you got on the throttle, what you hear is a synthesized fake engine sound to make it sound louder than it is. They do this because Turbo engines sound like Vacuums so Ford, BMW, And other companies feed in fake engine noise through the speakers.
      Yes this is tuned totally different from the Platinum, its a bit firmer and transmission and motor is programmed to react faster.
      I'll be honest, if you can step up to a Lincoln Aviator you will be a lot happier much higher quality product

      Game Brigade I would prefer the Telluride for sure. A buddy of mine just bought an Explorer ST for his wife, and I have to say, I wasn’t impressed. It looked great from the exterior and was very fast, but I found it to be very eh.
      The steering was very vague and imprecise and the stuck on screen looks genuinely terrible, but worst of all, the material quality looked like something you’d find in a crossover half the price. All the lower surfaces and the whole center console and air vents are littered with cheap, matte black plastic. Unforgivable at this price.

My vehicle was 54k with choice add ons. So is this an SUV or an overpriced Soccermom car? Ford advertising has some riding on off road terrain but comes with city street tires. I don't care for red brake calipers for me black would be better. Interior looks like the same cheap plastics and again why are the paddle shifters connected to the steering wheel...try shifting while turning. Then I HATE the vertical screen. Either I'll wait for a better model (for the price) or back off entirely and get into a new Bronco.
