Keep going man, it's a new channel but I can see a lot of future in it. Content for gci/vfx is usually behind a massive paywall most can't get through; and you taking your time for these videos is very nice!
Thank you for this. Haven't checked yet if you ever made a video on how to create the maps. But this was the video to put me in the right direction of what Im trying to do. Would be awesome if you did find the time to make the maps video (if you haven't already). Thanks man. Good work.
Any specific reason why you don't change color space for roughness and normal to no color? Cause i see a lot tutorial do that and i do that too cause the result look more natural to me personally. By the way this is good tutorial 👍
I will probably do a video on the full process, it sort of just a very case by case thing... Can you tell me what it is you don't really understand so I can try to cover specifically what's helpful?
@@jbrashfx thanks for the feedback, there are no flaws in your video, this is my little knowledge on how to use masks for textures. I didn’t quite understand how to use a bump normal masks in blender, but this is not about this vid. Thanks a lot, I get what I want for my project)) the hardest part was to understand or google how these light reflections work in the world section) (still in the process of searching)
Ayy glad you’re back! Fantastic info. How do you make your normal maps? In my workflow I just find myself using spotgloss -> ramp -> bump / displacement depending on the detail I need but the falloff you get from your normal map is way cleaner on the edges
I personally do it in Photoshop! In photoshop go Filter > 3D > Generate Normal map. And then I adjust the blur amount until small details look tac sharp! If you don't have photoshop you can also google "normal map generator" and feed a roughness or even color texture into the first link that pops up & I've had good results with that as well.
Dumb question, but how'd he make the normal map? You'd need to bake it from 3d geometry, no? Would it be possible to just plug in a bump node, driven by the roughness map?
I can definitely do the map making process. I've switched most of my work over to blender & UE5 at this point but in redshift you would accomplish this with a node called "Color Layer" :) You can actually skip a few steps here using that because that node lets you do a ton of layers instead of just 2.
I’m almost positive it’s a default theme I’m blender… I think it’s neutral gray or dark gray or something like that? I’ll double check when I get home and reply with the exact name
you literally simplified a 1000 tutorials in 1 video bro nice one, thanks. Been struggling understanding nodes and you nailed it.
Super glad it was helpful!
@@jbrashfx Im also in production I do separation I usually use modo to do visualisation. but need to shift to blender. Anyway thanks big help
awesome!!
dumb question, but cant we combine all the pbr maps into one?
one for metallic, one for roughness .etc etc...?
I found the eighth wonder of the world haha! Thank you so much, keep going!
Glad it was helpful Paulo!

I've learnt a lot. Thanks, I'll keep practising until I get the hang of it.

@@jbrashfx Yess! I saw it/watched it right away! Thanks dude! You really helped me get a grasp on making my own maps!

I love this. Do you have any Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop tutorial on how to create maps for these shaders?
Hey man, I know this is a year old vid but if you haven't already PLEASE create a video detailing how you created those maps. I would love to learn.
Good vid, thx a lot. what I'm missing is to show what the maps you add at the very beginning look like.

Good to see you back man! Could you do something similar in c4d/redshift? And maybe show us how you create the maps? Cheers bro!

Making this video tonight!

How do you find blender so far?
Klout's insta posts are sick BTW, Any plans to do a video editing tutorial with similar style?
Thank you! Blender is great, I’ve enjoyed getting deeper into it.
