We need to recruit like a sec school. Mcculaugh and Jayden Gibson are the example of sec sized and skilled athletes that we have to go out and get. I’m tired of seeing our QBs having to throw to 5’9 receivers and 6th year seniors.
Why so many injuries? Is Oklahoma doing something different. Are we hitting to much in practice? Is Schmidt doing things that promote injury? Why didn’t we get a real offensive coordinator instead of hiring Oklahoma retreads?
Practice injuries are an issue. They should be rare. If you are getting too many injuries you have to change the practice program which is the coaching responsibility.
I am pissed and embarrassed for this program , but if we get rid of Brent we lose the defense, we need to get an OC and qb coach , the new OC needs to bring in a qb with him. That is the best answer with emotions removed, we’re mistakes made yes, I wouldn’t have fired Gundy, but the Litrell hire had been a huge mistake and this new OC is crucial to the programs success. If we had a top 60 offense we would have won most games this year. We also need to bring in a new nutritionist and medical staff if for no other reason than they have lost the confidence of many. I know the fans get mad and want everyone gone but we got to be smart. Where I would look elsewhere: cornerbacks , tight ends, we have to recruit more size . DeMarco is a great recruiter, but I don’t see development and who he plays over others makes no sense. Defense btw would be even better if the offense was good, if we played with a lead and forced offenses to be one dimensional we would be able to pin our ears back and get after the qb. Jackson is not him he needs to hit the portal!
OU is the Bob Stoops Legacy Football Program. He makes the decisions and he led the search committee and hired Venables. Bob wants loyalty so he hires his people. Runs OU like Jerry Jones does the Dallas Cowboys.
First off, leave OL and WR coaches alone. Rb Coach, give him 2 more years at least. OU needs a good dedicated Qb Coach and an elite OC. Hopefully BV will address this properly.
Brent knows he messed up hiring friends instead of hiring proven playcallers/QB coaches who know how to develop talent. That said, where’s the fire? Where’s the passion? Where’s the pride? Because this does extend to the defense as well, because of all the drives they needed to stop, they couldn’t stop a bad Mizzo offense when they had to get a stop. This was Kansas 2.0.
Oklahoma fans has to learn patience something we're not used to. That on top injuries. The Running backs room is stacked with the 24k roughriders! We're going to be good with a solid OC hire.
The thing is, I don't think OU can both afford to buy out BV and the entire staff and bring in a top candidate say for example Curt Cignetti or Shane Beamer. CAN OU afford both? I have my doubts but I'm not an insider. Lebby when hired was thought to be a TOP guy in the country and the results were decent. Probably our best bet is to go all in on an OC, but there are issues with that as well. So yeah we are in a tough spot.
Jay, we're now in the SEC. If you pause anywhere in your program for just a season, you get setback years. In the old NCAA rule book we would be dead and buried. Good thing is we have the PORTAL...and Brent has shown that he's pretty good at NIL. I have faith in Venables, dude, but it's fleeting. Offense - you can't have a QB throwing for 74 yds... that's just unacceptable. Defense... allowing 11-14 on 3rd down to Mizz is not good defense. Good news is that O'Neal comes in in 2026. This coaching staff MUST be ironed out by 2026...AND I MEAN MUST!
It’s the offensive line! We lost all starters last year and Cayden Green left. And OC. OU is going to have to spend a lot of money for offensive lineman in the portal.
I think you have to put some blame on the training staff very inconsistent in keeping these players on the field. BV next OC hire will be his defining legacy good or bad.
Just go get Mack Leftwich, (or similar OC, but I think ya'll should take a HARD LOOK at Leftwich. He is my favorite for ya'll for a few reasons) maybe an OL or two in the portal. Perhaps a qb, but definitely a good QB coach. Keep BB, everyone else on offense can go. And talk to me next year. I think you'll be fine. Shocked, even, how good you can look.
I'd hoped you'd of listen to Teddy and Gabe before this video. Gabe said that the offensive line perfomed good enough to win the game. Drumm has said twice now that BV is a micromanager that he drives his coaches hard and that he's hard to work for. Also, someone commented during his show that Gundy said they don't have route trees evidently. Probably why they can't get open. Where was Jordan most of the game? I only remember him getting a few snaps. If the starting receivers still weren't completely healthy, they should've stayed with the ones they've been playing. Arnold reverted to his bad habits of holding onto the ball again but if his receivers couldn't get open, well, that's whole nother problem. We're back to this, why can't we do what other teams do to us, thing again. I just miss Cale. You knew what you were going to get from him and his players.
Did coach Murray make an effort to keep Tywee? The player was a walk on he was willing to work for the team the coach doesn't need to be best buddies with the players coaches need to DEVELOP the players to get the best for the player and team. Tywee was a big loss which his coach should have known would be a great loss to OU. @mattpope770
The problem started when we hired BV. We are a major blue blood program and we should have been able to get an established head coach. I’ve said this before but BV is a good assistant coach a good recruiter and a nice guy. When he arrived we lost a lot of starting people who transferred with Lincoln or ran to another program. Then the injuries occurred. But mostly the fact he had never experienced the pressure and duties of a head coach.
Personally, I’m ready for a new crew. Let’s be real, the offensive side of the ball has seen limited development. Only one I would give a pass is Emmett, and even that might be a stretch with a new OC
Even with a good OC, I think our ceiling with BV will be 9-3, 10-2. We will not be dominant like AL and UGA. We will be able to beat teams we are favored against, but rarely beat a team better than us. We'll make it to the play off and get beat first or second round, and never win a NC. If you're happy with that, then BV's your guy. If you're wanting to be dominant like AL or UGA.... well, hope springs eternal.
Why do we have a veteran QB sitting on the "Shelf"; who's got more experience than the entire offensive team?! P L E A S E help me understand the WHY...C. Thompson!!!

Could get the OC and other needed coaches and start being competitive in 2026. By competitive, 9-3 or better. If he fails it just one year longer than the 1st scenario. Any thoughts?
I heard Indiana has 10 of the 11 guys on offense who weren’t on their team last year. And yet they’re the #1 scoring offense in the country (last I checked). I’m not ready to fire BV yet, but he’s had three years to do what Cignetti has done in less than one year.
We need BV for 1 more year and try to get a great OC. Because if we could have an offense like last years and a defense like this years or better. It would be a damn good team.
IMHO. BV needs one more year at least. I would keep Zack Alley, Todd Bates, and Emmitt Jones. Let a New OC pick his staff and replace the rest. Joe John has recruited one top TE in two years. BB had to get 6 OL out of the portal in one class. There are 13 freshmen, 2 sophomores, and one crippled junior. Unexpectable. Personally, that smells lazy to me. With the talent on the roster, (If they can keep them) a good OC should be excited to coach at OU.
@ DG was injury prone. He probably wouldn’t last an entire seasons behind this OLine getting hit so much and having his top 5 WR out most together season would have made him look far worse than he is at Oregon.
Its poor QB play, and poor Oline play due to injuries, you talking heads make sure the damage seems worse, with better QB play they could have won all the games they were in.
