The way that the game is already ‘animated’ like a deepfake of ‘Angela Anaconda’ makes it delightfully easy to miss when IH switches to his Photoshop handpuppets.
Yeah it's so fucking weird looking. Throw in the voice acting and the MacGyver segments and becomes a weird fever dream.
I can't tell if the spiders and scorpions on the rock climb were actually in the game or not.
That style of animation makes me irrationally angry.
I had this same issue, haha. Storymode should get hired to make the next Family Mysteries installment.
The uncanniest of valleys
The fact that you are reviewing the type of game that my now 50-year old mother used to obsess with is so surreal. It brings back memories of my childhood as I helped her find the stuff she can't see. I really believe these kinds of games were a hit for old people.
And 10 year old to current me really likes them because the puzzles challenged my autistic brain and the stories had dark (for 10 year old me) themes and events such as messages in blood and bodies falling out of elevators (like classic Ben 10)

@@wobblywack5531 Its just one of those stories that is a crescendo of plot holes leading up to an ending that is unsatisfying total nonsense. It exists only to be overanalyzed and memed. God bless the souls who actually played this game for real, created a wiki and posted gameplay footage... they died, so Mark and Elizabeth could expleen.

I love how "acid" in these games is always green, and always able to eat through metal in seconds, air vents are always large enough to fit a human, and criminals always leave taped confessions.

I'd say those are entertainment industry tropes in general, not just tropes in these games. Unsuprisingly enough in real life going into a vent is a really bad idea since also unsurprisingly they are not made for walking in them lol. I've read a story of a lady who had a paranoid meltdown and went into a vent and got stuck there and obviously there was nobody to help. I aassume that they often have a dead end (for a person, not air) further on or are blocked in other ways, have dropdowns and stuff which will make it impossible to backtrack if there is a dead end, also they are likely to break under a person's weight. The lady who got there didn't survive and I suppose going into a vent would result in death in most cases
@@januszkurahenowski2860 we had a mall doing renovations on their bathrooms and they found a dead body in the walls. The police said it was probably just a homeless guy that tried to crawl through the air ducts and that there was no reason to suspect organized crime.
They later went on to say two people shooting at each other from speeding cars was just a nasty case of road rage. We live in Canada, you can't legally just keep a weapon in your car let alone a loaded one, so it was a pretty crazy coincidence when two angry people in flagrant violation of multiple federal firearms laws just so happened to run into each other by random chance.
But look out for those air vents, they'll get ya!

Might I recommend “Abyss: The Wraiths of Eden”. You play as a woman whose fiancé has gone missing on a diving expedition, you dive down to his last known location, but she keeps seeing shadows out of the corner of her eye, and can’t shake the feeling that she is being watched

I'm not gonna lie, sometimes I like to just sit down and spend a couple hours playing through a hidden object game, partially for the wacky stories. Some games have extremely long franchises and it gets comical how crazy things keep happening to the same people. I know of one franchise where a woman goes from saving her sister on her wedding day, to needing to save her sister's family, to saving her niece specifically, to saving her boyfriend, to saving her husband, to saving her own kid, and it's just like CAN THIS POOR WOMAN CATCH A BREAK PLEASE?

Yeees, I do the same thing. Once in a year I'm like "a crave QUESTS AND HIDDEN OBJECTS", so I buy one or two of such games and play the shit out of them until I have all achievements and the main menu soundtrack makes me want to puke.

LA Noire audio cues can really shape up any mystery game, it's honestly kinda incredible
They did spend like $100,000,000 making that game. Unfortunately they only spent $3.50 on the world building and side missions.

@@DeathnoteBB that’s the problem, it could’ve been. I loved LA Noire at first, but within 3 hours you realize the entire city of LA is nothing but empty homes and copy pasta businesses. The world is empty, only the linear story exist and you can’t fail any mission, you only get a low or high rating that also rewards nothing. You’re not so much playing a game as you are just going through the motions. It’s less than an interactive game and slightly more engaging than a very long and unfocused movie.
@@Mr_Bones. Dude it’s a murder mystery game. You’re not “going through the motions” you’re solving the crimes and experiencing the plot. Not every game is a sandbox adventure, that doesn’t mean you’re “not so much playing a game”. And it’s by Rockstar, they usually have pretty stiff worlds, imo. Like don’t get me wrong I agree it could have had things to do in the world, but I get why they didn’t. You’re a cop, not a criminal like in GTA or Mafia II (which isn’t by the same people but felt similar to me). That’s why (I assume) it’s impossible to run through most of the environment like in GTA. You’re a cop who isn’t going to break the law like that. Same with how he’s not gonna run off to do random minigames, he has a job.
Emma might have been going to suspicious websites because she has a modern computer yet it somehow has pop-ups like that.
Emma: "My computer has malware! I'll just take this pocket knife to cut a rope, that I can use to hoist a sail, that I can use on a raft to travel across the Pacific, buy some eggs, perform a handstand, cure cancer, go back home, and run a scan on Windows Defender."

She was going to the warehouse in a police car with a guy who was in on it, who tries to kill her but then she receives a text to come to the warehouse where she was going anyway with the impersonator, then they hire the doctor to get her from the cliff and take her to the warehouse where she was going anyway...

And even though they know she is coming, both guys are just idle looking at a wall despite her doing a lot of noise in the next room.

You know, for all silliness you guys pointed out these kinds of games are fantastic for language learning. I remember as a teenager playing hidden object games with a dictionary at hand and learning way more new words than in language classes.
That’s actually a good tip for language learning. The pictures mean that the object is instantly recognizable, so the only real mystery is what the word is in the target language

I think it would've made more sense if The Doctor was going to the meeting location but coincidentally met Emma on the road. He proceeded to text about it to the big boss, and that's where he got the orders to kill Emma. It would've made way more sense.
But even then, why would the cop try to kill her? They clearly wanted her alive, and expected her alive. Why would the cop attempt to unalive her??

So this is a game published by Artifex Mundi. That means it has decent quality. AM used to make these HoGs (hidden object games) themselves. Any game specifically developed by Artifex Mundi is top quality. Enigmatis, Grim legends, Nightmares from the deep. These are all amazing Hidden Object Games. Even if you don't like HoGs, they let you swap that out and play mini games instead.
An Artifex Mundi game? I love it! These are my guilty pleasure that makes me seem like a middle aged woman who dreamed of becoming a detective

I adore these games as well. I used to get them when the Amazon app store would have a free game of the day.
Some of these games are goofy as hell but there are some good ones.
I was about to say toxicology results have a quick turn around in this world, but the particular doctor twist makes sense when you keep that in mind. When did they have time to take the lipstick to a lab to test for the toxin then to test if that particular toxin produced the same result as on the Jane Doe body?
The game is cute, but you really have to suspend disbelief for it to work.
They just have it a quick taste test it was icky so that means poison

I just played Hidden Mysteries Titanic and it's definitely something you should look into. you play as a woman trying to escape her poor past except her rich husband and her actually don't like eachother. and she has to solve every problem on the titanic. I swear I thought she wàs gonna put the ship back together or somrthing in a mini puzzle
I like to think that the Sherlock theme wasn’t added for the video but was actually in the original game. The people that make Sherlock take it all so seriously it would be hilarious to have copied it from this game 😂😂😂

I genuinely can't tell if the voice acting in this game is real people or text to speech. I also can't tell which parts were edited in and which were already in the game. This feels like a fever dream.

Got a bunch of these in a bundle a while back and streamed them to friends. Some were hilariously bad and Family Mysteries was one of them. You didn't see it in this video but there's a bonus chapter and it's somehow even worse!

Gotta love the old hidden item games. Id recommend maybe the MAZE series, the first being Subject 360. There are even ones based on grim versions of fairy tales and classic stories like Fiction Fixers or Dark Parables, those were actually my favorite when I was young!
