  • Here at The Hide I get asked about all the budget entry level AR15s. Right now and the fact that most of them can be had for very reasonable money, has a lot of guys talking about them. But realistically what kind of quality, accuracy, durability and shoot-ability can be expected from one of those models?.... Well in this series we're going to find out! Ive been fortunate enough to have this Sport Mod 2 from Del-Ton to T&E and hopefully answer some of those questions..
    We're going to go from out of the box to testing in Run-N-Gun and other carbine courses as well as getting some accuracy shots of the bench and see how this sub $500 dollar offering holds up! Stay tuned as this should be an interesting series!!!!!!

    I have tens of thousands of rounds through my entry level Delton, with minimal cleaning, shitty ammo, and rough handling, without fail. It’s a solid platform by far. My buddy’s pricey bushy is coughing up steel ammo and my D is swallowing it like butter. It doesn’t care. I wipe it down once a year but that’s about it. Great rifle. You might think I’m kidding about its reliability without cleaning but I’m not. I bought it for that purpose, and it performs regardless. Cheap and works. Every time. Rain or shine, dirty or clean, it goes bang and hits the mark. Always. I’m actually quite impressed. I clean this thing less often than my Glocks... which is... never lol.

    Shot so-called "high-end" ARs in the Marine Corps and as a Tactical officer. Shot so-called "entry level" too. Actually, own a couple. Still trying to tell the difference. I think the phrase "entry level" was invented by gun dealers and manufacturers to get folks to pay 2 or 3 thousand dollars for a gun that should cost five hundred. The higher the markup, the higher the profit margin. And besides, for a lot of folks 500 bucks IS a high-end rifle. The differences I see in the high-end guns, to me, are not worth another 1000 or 1500 dollars. But I'm no expert. When I can purchase 3 or 4 good weapons for the price of one. That's a no-brainer.

    • @TheHide
      @TheHide  6 років тому +11

      I personally don't own a high end rifle, I honestly just cant justify the cost even for as much as I shoot. My custom put together rifles do just fine. Thanks for watching!

      763 Charlie yea are exactly right. My buddies laugh at me for buying $500 dollars rifles until they shoot just like their pricey ($1,100) ones 🤷🏽‍♂️

      I own both an "entry level" as well as what I consider a higher end rifle since it cost me around $1300+ to build including red dot and mbus sights (still slowly buying upgrades for it) and I will say there is a difference between an expensive AR and a high quality AR. I've shot expensive rifles like you've said that have actually shot worse and felt cheaper than my entry level Del-ton. I meticulously spec'd out my "high end" rifle after much research on gas port sizes and buffer system blah blah blah but in the end the rifle feels amazing and runs like a well tuned machine. There is a difference but it just depends on how you personally feel about the cost per gain in refinement.
      I wanted to get the VLTOR A5 buffer system since I've heard nothing but good about it but at the time I was getting up their in price so I ended up leaving it out of the build. The cost for refinement at the time wasn't there for me. Maybe in the future I can pick it up but it'll have to wait. I recently bought a ArmaSpec Stealth Recoil Spring which I'm testing but the first range outing I wasn't impressed. I'll give it time before making up my mind, I'm hoping it breaks in a little and softens the recoil like it's supposed to do.

    This rifle exceeds my expectations. It's not that I can't afford other AR-15s i can It's just that this is such an awesome rifle that will stack up to any AR-15 out there. I have the smith&wesson ar15 cost me 900$ and this Delton cost half that and shoots better and smother. I've put countless rounds thru my del-ton without a single problem and I've had about 3 mishaps with my s&w. Save your money and by a quality proven great AR-15 from del-ton. I've since sold my S&W and bought 2 more del-tons. Love them work every time and they don't need oiling as much as other AR-15 do.

    Love my Del-ton, It's the first rifle I ever bought back in 2008 and it still looks brand new today. 9k rounds through it on all original components besides the stock and magpul trigger guard and I've never had a malfunction. Surprisingly enough It also shoots a lot smoother than some higher end rifles I've tested in the past. I rented a PWS DI AR and I was surprised that this $1500 rifle had more recoil and besides the long keymod handguard actually felt a bit cheaper than my delton in the hand. Since then I spec'd out a awesome rifle that shoots like a dream but my del-ton is still a sweet heart to shoot. At the moment though my del-ton is a safe queen since I want to preserve it for any possible kids I have down the line. Hopefully keep my first rifle in the family =).

    Nice that it comes with a rear sight. I bought a DT Sport 5 years ago, my first AR. They didn't come with rear sights then, but no biggie. Light, tight carbine, still sitting in my Stack-On gun cabinet right next to the PSA AR I built a few years later. Del Ton is really good for people who are on a budget but willing to spend a little to defend their families.

    I love my DelTon!!!!! It came upgraded with a "slim" full length(15") Mlok hand guard. Full length pica tinny rail on top. 1:7 chrome moly barrel. $475. I put some aluminum flip up irons on it, with a 2 MOA red dot. 300 rounds, without one single problem. The mid length, low profile gas system ejects at a consistent 3 o'clock. Perfectly gassed!!! I highly recommend DelTon. Shot a .44" 5 shot group from 50 yards. That's below subMOA. Very accurate!

    I have two Del-Ton builds. Great affordable and good quality rifles. One is a Del-Ton 20 inch heavy chrome lined 1 in 9 rifle kit with an Anderson stripped lower. This one came in at about $600 total. The second one is an M4 type and almost identical except 16 inch mid length heavy and not chrome lined. The price was unbeatable on the second one. While Del-Ton lists the same rifle kit for about $480, I got it from a dealer for $365. Add the Anderson stripped lower and $420 total.

    I have a DelTon sport lite that has never run right.
    When you manually chamber the first round the rifle will fire fine, it ejects the empty case, chambers a new round, and to all appearances has returned to battery and is ready for another shot. However, it will not shoot the round unless I switch the safety on, then off. If I do that between rounds the rifle functions fine, if I try to shoot it normally I have never gotten it to fire more than two rounds back to back.
    I have no idea what is causing this.
    Any ideas?

    I just picked up my 2nd Del-Ton rifle kit. The first was a 20” many years ago. It’s been a terrific, reliable, and accurate shooter. Can hit plates at 200 yards from standing with just iron sights and XM193. The 2nd rifle kit, is a 16” carbine with lightweight barrel that I ordered for $299 directly from Del-Ton. I plan on building that as soon as it arrives. But for about $400, you can have a complete rifle and that just amazes me. Cheaper than a Glock! BTW, I also own a Daniel Defense and BCM. They’re both great as well. But if you look closely at the craftsmanship, both DD and BCM are a bit rougher. If there were no logos, everyone would assume that the DTI is a higher quality brand lol.

    I have read that if your budget cannot afford a mid-range or high-quality AR15, then any extra budget you have that is above the "budget" parts should be put into the barrel for improved accuracy and reliable cycling. If that is true, the review I want to see most is a low-end AR with a high-end barrel. That would get a million views, and a lot of subscriptions.

    I spent alot of time at the ranges here in Nebraska looking at the selection of rifles on the wall and my local gun stores. I just got my del ton AR and it looks exactly like the others inside and out I know the build materials might not be the same but damn If it isn't comparable just examining them especially the feel in hands. Added a red dot sight. Going to shoot it in a few days

    Let's see three entry level AR'S for 1500 dollars that r very accurate and can shoot thousands of rounds in each one or one 1500 dollar AR that is no more accurate or can't shoot no more rounds than the entry level AR? Think I will go with the three entry level....

      I now have over 20 AR's, all built for just around $300. Wait for Del-Ton to have their super sales (like black Friday / July 4th) when you can get a rifle kit for $279 or even $249 if you're lucky. Then wait for Primary Arms to offer a deal on stripped lowers, I caught a deal with 3 lowers for $89.
      Build them yourself, and you've got quality rifles for about $300 each.
      None of these guns has ever failed.

      Yes it does have the m4 ramps, their original Sport model did not have these. So that's a great improvement for the price point.. Thanks for watching and feel free to subscribe!

    Good video but need to work on actual gun review. The whole video wasted on you describing how a gun review should go or questioning it's quality etc. Like I watch a video to see a review not how a review should go all I learned is it has some chrome. I know your doing other videos but this one was pointless

    The same people that destroyed Harley Davidson, are the same people who use the phrase "entry level AR15". Safe queens or just plain dumb civilians who feel the need to justify their idiotic decision to spend 500-1000 dollars more on an AR. These are the same civilian idiots who take Carbine courses and think themselves Operators and trained assassins. I have shot literally almost every brand of AR, was issued the "benchmark" Colt in the Army and put it through all its paces, (also currently own a 6920) To this day, i CANNOT tell any REAL WORLD difference between that Colt and my Bear Creek Arsenal AR, Del-Ton and and my PSA. You can spout specs off a paper to me all freaking day, if i can put rounds on target at 100-150 yards consistently and reliably....the Rifle has done its job. Keep your shit clean and treat it well, and in the end....the name on it matters very fucking little, certainly not enough to justify spending a freaking grand or more...straight stupid.

    • @TheHide
      @TheHide  6 років тому +1

      Yup, I actually don't own any store bought ARs. If I were to get one, it would honestly probably be one of these Del-Tons. I don't have any problem at all with a guy wanting a spend 2k+ on an AR if that's what makes him happy. This is America buy what ya want! I just have the issue when its a closed case with some of them saying that's their hands down a better purchase, when for some its clearly not a better purchase.... Thanks for watching!
