I use 90 octane non ethanol gas in all my gas equipment. When I put it up for the winter I put some stabilizer in the fuel then shut the gas off and run it dry like you said. I’ve never had a problem. Even after sitting for 5 months.
I used TREDS boots for years ! Liked them because they were lite and if they get a rip or tear you can fix them with a rubber patch ! And the plastic bags do make them alot easier to get on and off !
@OdellCompleteConcrete In the 1960s, AC units became way more affordable. AZ then mandated rental units have full access to central AC or renters can break the lease. Hey David just found this video. Man you are looking good and I am so happy to see you at it again! You are the maestro of concrete I tell you. Man that is pretty much better than my guys did on our huge drive project 3 years ago
Amazing job as normal!!! Love to see you down in the valley doing work now! Wow, down in Tempe now??? I may have a project coming up needing some custom paver and concrete and block work doing a full backyard landscape in Peoria. (303 & Lake Pleasent Pkwy area) out in the desert where we built in 2019 and get wild Donkeys, horses, javalina, mtn lions (mom and 2 pups came through my front yard the other day) and so many coyotes all over and up and down the streets at night just howling. some nice red tail hawks flying around and massive Owls and eagles... But yeah, I was always amazing how you pumped all your jobs.,... Anytime I've poured when I was younger, to get a pump out is was in the 1k areas... it is RARE to see a pump here in AZ
@@OdellCompleteConcrete Lol, growing up, learned concrete work by being the pump... aka a wheel burrow fully of crete going from the schute to the forms and you only make the misteak of dumping a load once.... lol
The Carb issues are because of Ethanol in the Gas. You are doing the correct thing to turn the fuel off and let the engine run out of fuel. If you use the highest octane fuel it will also remedy carb issues with no need to run the engine out of fuel.
I’m a huge fan been following for years I’m currently an underwater welder w/ exp in concrete actually something I want to continue later on as a contractor do you have any recommendations to start up?
Great tip on shutting gas valve and letting engine starve out. I learned that with motorcycles. That and adding stabil to the gas. Great job on this one team. Did you guys have a place to sleep there or commute every day? Doug live there? 🤔
I had concrete poured back on the 8th for a new shop, and even with a winter mix and accelerators, the guy left behind to do finishing didn't finish till 4pm, and they poured around 9am so almost 7hrs before he got the smooth finish he wanted. Daytime was a couple degrees above freezing. Finisher said when it it's summertime (similar temps and humidity to Arizona) he could be done in an hour or two at most. Shows that even with additives, curing is still a chemical process and heat governs how fast it happens.
If you have an enclosed trailer consider adding a solar panel or 2 to keep batteries charged and charge while you’re doing the job so you always have fresh batteries.
There are a lot of our (Midwest O'Dell's) relatives in the Scottsdale/Tempe area. They do not have the O'Dell surname. That line of the Family has been there since WW2.
I feel your pain in regards to the gas clogging the carb, it's that ethanol that does it. I started using non ethanol for my gas stuff, long term it's really not practical though because it costs more.
I found those gas powered concrete buggies I can rent one from Sunbelt rentals for $170 a day half the cost of a pump. I'm just a DIY person 2-3 yards here and there lot quicker then wheel barrows saves my back.
Nice job... but don't you gotta get back and seal it? or did you leave that for the home owner? You are usually in CA... so it surprises me that you'll go as far as Tempe AZ. Family member? close friend? associate? Just curious.
On Small Engines... I Now only use Non-Ethanol Gas... I have not had any problems with any of my equipment since... It's A Little hassle to go find and get it... But well worth it... You can have that gas in for years and No Corrosion and it starts right up!
Whoa right in my backyard! I’m originally a So Cal native but I’ve been here for about 15 years and own a large Plumbing and electrical contracting company. Good to see you guys here! Was this a one time deal?
Use tru fuel for equipment you don't use very much. It's kind of expensive but it doesn't break down and gunk up the carb. Even if you shut the fuel off If your getting gas from the pump in ca its only good for 4-6 months in my experience.
Why was there no gap (expansion joint) against the wall and the side of the house for expansion (and contraction)? The saw-cuts were only to control future cracks?
My state finally! You'd be needing retarder I believe if it was summer time while doing this :) Is it a good idea to put something between the house and the new concrete, or the block wall and the concrete? Also, you didn't mold the lines in like is done here in AZ haha Yes, all small engines just turn the fuel off to kill it, unless you are going to start it again in the next hour.
I'll be derned, I'm power troweling everything! Exception being the edges. I also would've just done a "lay down" power trowel finish personally. It looks really good though.
Lol, next door is getting a new A/C unit during this. You see him remove the old AC and lift the new one up. But yeah, any home build before the mid 90s,. the A/C is on the roof. In the mid-90's, we moved to split systems where the half is in the attic and the condensor is on the ground outside. and thats how all new homes are still build today. For some reason, for all the years since Air Conditioning was invented, AZ put it on the roofs all tne way up to the mid 90's. where the unit gets beat the hell up by the sun and heat.
Regarding running the carb out of fuel. I'm a mid-sized city FF/EMT and that is SOP on all of the straight gas powered equipment on our rigs: Turn off the fuel and let the motor burn it all off to shut down the motor. Saves countless hours of maintenance on a fleet of rigs and equipment. This does not apply to 2-stroke engines.
Those new trucks that mix on site are freaking awesome. Pouring in the cold/winter down in the valley, it takes forever for it to set.... however, pour in the summer, and you have to start your pour about 3am and by 9am you should be finishing your final troweling.... If you started at 9am, you have to retard the setup because as soon as the sun hit it, its like a time bomb, it cures up SO FAST in the desert heat and the ground under it radiating heat up through it too... lol. Yup, the trucks ussually have those kiddie pools you get for like $5 at walmart and such and they clean out in those, and up to the finisher to dispose of the concrete cleanup out here. in new neighborhoods that are pouring new slabs, you see the kiddie pools in a lot they use for a "cleanup lot" where all vehicles and concrete vehicles go to, to do their cleanout and you see just stacks of kidde pools FULL of hard concrete, lol.
I told Armando he dump the concrete from the kiddie pool. Then give the pool to his kids. He was very excited and said he would tell his kids when got home that Christmas came early. LoL
I would like to see you pour 5-6 inch slabs for driveways....anywhere Vehicles or Trailers or Campers are rolling across....4 inches are for sidewalks only....in my opinion.
More and more people are doing that. It's unreasonable there. Move 1 or 2 states over, and grow your business there. No thanks to paying $1,800+ a month on 1-bedroom apartment.
as the home owner, I would drive into my old cracked driveway and see the new one and go, "I should have torn this up and poured it new too..." But a budget is a budget

Most of the roof units aren't air conditioners. With the older homes they're swamp coolers.

That was true 35 years ago but A/C has become essential for any home in the valley.
Because of the rise in humidity, due to irrigation?
