- Bending Physics and blazing trails. On August 18, 2023, the groundbreaking Rimac Nevera hypercar GT broke the official lap record for a production EV on the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
Hailed as one of the most challenging circuits in the world, the 20.8 km-long Nordschleife is a daunting combination of narrow sections, blind corners, elevation changes, and high-speed straights, set within the picturesque Eifel mountains.
As well as its sheer length and complexity, the Nordschleife is famous for its roller coaster-like sections, with dramatic uphill and downhill stretches that not only affect the car’s aerodynamics but also the way it handles under braking and acceleration.
This is our year of breaking records. Designed and engineered as a comfortable hypercar GT, the Nevera has set more than twenty records in 2023. Previously it has shown dominance in acceleration and braking, as well as setting a new production car record at the Goodwood hillclimb. On our first visit to the Nürburgring, the Nevera broke yet another record - a new electric production car benchmark of 7:05.298.

It's obvious they wanted a sub-7min lap: "We also learned what it means to have high expectations..." I guess if they repeat the effort on a not-so-hot day it could be achieved.
tbh, huge respect to Martin for doing fast lap, but i'm affraid he didn't push that car to the limit for only one reason- it cost way to much to play silly with it, and Rimac is not willing to smash it just for sake of 10 sec improvement..... track temperature and somebody with 50-60K kms of racing under his belt would make difference big time.... but let's battista or evija chalenge it first, so we can talk about it.... all this comments about ice cars smashing that time is nothing else but mixing apples and pears.....
It is very questionable how faster Nevera can go as it is a very very very heavy car with more or less same tire size as the 500,600,700,800kg lighter cars. @@hobbyjay6803

The full lap was *so* different to watch compared to anything else. Straight line speed coming quite close to even the 919 Evo at some points, followed by comparatively "slow motion" cornering 😁
An incredible achievement for a 2.300 kg car (actually more with that equipment) nonetheless. Especially for such a young company. Rimac is truly something special and has long earned a place in my heart ❤

What is never spoken about with these nurburg times, is the driver. Drivers lapping nordscleiffe ate not f1 drivers, there can be up to 20 seconds disparity in lap times between good pro-am drivers
This was definitely a badly driven lap, far too much left in many parts of the track.
Honestly, What they should be celebrating is how quickly they moved across the Nürburgring Two and a half tons!!!😊

@@einautofan6685 yes it is, but the GT3 RS i Road legal race car, completely track-oriented. Nevera is not a racecar by it's nature. Also GT3 weights 1500kg and Nevera is 2300kg car. We can discuss a lot, but these two cars have different purposes and you can not put them in side to side comparison.

Slower than a 500 HP Porsche 992 GT3. At the Foxhole the Nevera is 30 km/h slower than the GT3!
Very impressive for a startup and fit what is a production prototype. All that said, it needs work, aero and a legit 4wd torque vectoring system.
Impressive time for a car with weight of 2300kg and no special downforce build for fast cornering.
Impressive? It has close to 2,000 hp and is slower than a 911 GT3 with about 1/4 of the Nevera's hp. LMFAO SMH
@@KP-xi4bj You don't understand jack shit. Heavy cars with no tuned downforce are terrible on corners. That GT3 RS is 1000kg lighter with better downforce and can do corners at much higher speed - and cornering is all that matters on track. It's not a damn straight line drag race. Go educate yourself a bit on racing physics before you open your yap. Heavy cars have immense inertia to overcome with anything but slowing down significantly more. Also that slowing down is typically slower due to mass of the vehicle - so you also have to start breaking earlier.

The fact that it nearly did a sub 7 minute lap and looked like it could be pushed even further is impressive in it’s own right considering it’s not a track car. Mybe there is custom build Porsche Lambo or some other drag strip custom cars that can have even better time ofc but this car is clean out of production line without any custom stuff on it and even has capability of upgrading preformance by a software update of computer for the owners in future,well ofc it wont be a free but what the hell... Allready people can ask him to jump in they own Nevera from stock limited 350 kmh top speed by paying extra like add on equipment for the car to 415 kmh top speed and little more power on acc. @@AJpro88 The power to weight ratio is a fairly straight forward equation (albeit there being other factors, like aerodynamics, weight distribution, etc), but when it comes to curves, light weight is very hard to beat, because the more weight you have pushing the car "sideways" (in the direction it was going before starting to turn), the harder it is to keep the car on track.
I think that's the gist of it.

Sorry but to me not so special, with so much HP, bodywork, technology, price after all.. I expect at least 6:50, even better results that GT3 cars (Porsche for example). Mate say that they even plan to put track autopilot, so I expect better results.

This is the first record where the absurd curb weight of the Rimac rears its ugly head. It is why it is an EV record, instead of just a record. Can we yank 1,000lbs out of this car over the next few years??
Sure 70kwh battery pack like the lotus evija has would strip 450-500 off. Which btw is also a carbon tub ev quad motor 2,014hp hypercar.
Yet the evija only weighs between 3,700-3,900# depending on who you can believe? Which is the lambo svj adventador weight class.
So if lotus can build a 2 seat ev hypercar with a 260+mile range with similar specs and tech to the nevera? Rimac eventually can to.
Oh and evija has faster charging along with active aero. The test drivers all former f1 champs seem to think it'll be a banger around the ring.
And they have a track only ultimate spec called evija X planned which was caught testing recently at the green hell. 😎

@@JackMott that's false and easily disproved. The ford cobra jet e 1,400 has about a 50kwh pack and runs 7s in the 1/4 mile at 5k#
The ford mach e 1,500 has a 60kwh pack. The fastest 200+mph ev rail has about a 30kwh pack.
Plaid has a 20% smaller pack than a nevera. The lucid air sapphire has a smaller pack and makes 1,314hp with 3 motors.
The Porsche gt4e performance cayman ev has a 80kwh pack and can make near 1,000hp with 2 motors in max output.
Maybe the evija won't live up to it's claims? So far nobody knows. So we'll see eventually.
@@4literv6 its not just about the peak watts you can get out of the pack for a few seconds, but about spreading the heat out over more cells. Those 50kwh packs won’t be doing 1,500 hp for a whole ring lap unless they add a similar amount of mass and size to the cooling system. as well voltage drops as the pack runs out which may limit power as you drain the pack. do those cars you listed make the same power at 40% soc as they do at 100%? the plaid does but its got a big pack making only 1000 hp. (haha only)
@@JackMott the Porsche gt4e performance cayman ev can lap Monaco as fast as a current gt3rs spec ice car does.
It can also do 30-40min sessions at a similar race pace to a the current ice gt3rs cars on one charge.
The id.r ran pikes peak and set the overall record with a small pack and it ran the green hell with only enough energy for that 1 lap.
I get what you are saying. However the examples I provided are proof you don't need such a large pack anymore to set records.
This is why I believe the evija will easily do the production ev record at the nurburgring once lotus attempts it.

Pretty disappointing considering that the Nevera has close to 2,000 hp and is slower than a 911 GT3 with about 1/4 the hp of the Nevera. SMH
Obviously you don’t know much about cars or how physics work. Factors such as weight and downforce play a huge role in the corners where time is made up or lost. A near sub 7 minute lap is nothing to scoff at, especially when it didn’t even look like it was going all out the entire lap.

When it is not the same than it is not production EV. "Production vehicles or production cars are mass-produced identical models, offered for sale to the public, and able to be legally driven on public roads (street legal). Legislation and other rules further define the production vehicle within particular countries or uses." So Time Attack is not identical product as Nevera so by that it is not fastest production EV.
