I really believe F.U.C.K may be our greatest record song for song and certainly the way it sounded. Mike and I still play more songs from this album than any other album in the Circle set. That pretty much says a lot. And the remastering makes it sound even better! - Sammy
Like Sammy said, F.U.C.K is probably the best record song for song, and I think sonically also. Andy Johns really nailed it for us, with a big fat sound, and finally lots of bass!! - Michael

Michael Anthony is the most humble rock star ever. Much love and respect for that guy.
It's amazing to see Mike be able to talk like a part of the band after all that happened. We need someone to get a solo interview with him.
For sure! I actually met Mike once. I was managing a restaurant on Maui (Maui Tacos) and he came in with his wife and family. Dude was cool af. I comped his meal and hooked him up with some of our hot sauces and t-shirts. Also chatted with him for a few minutes. The next day, he comes back, by himself. Mike took the time to come back and show his appreciation! He hands me a framed, autographed picture of him with his JD bass, standing in front of a brick wall. I cherish that thing! First class dude in my book.
@@Makai77that’s amazing!
In this clip, Mike had every opportunity to say, "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge was the first album where you can actually hear the bass." And yet he still pulled back, to avoid sounding like he was taking shots at anyone. He's got every right to take shots, but he just won't do it. A few months back, Eddie Trunk and a couple other guys interviewed Mike. Look for it. It's a good conversation. Mike talks about having a bunch of soundboard recordings of concerts from the first two tours.
Wow that's an Awesome story!!@@Makai77
It was a pile of crap neck high when the Van Halen brothers wanted to take away compensation to include royalties from Michael Anthony.
Al Van Halen was encouraged by his Brother in law who was the new band manager to no longer pay Anthony as an equal partner.
Anthony ended up with what I’d describe as an employee contract yet her soldiered on.
After he was replaced by Wolfgang thankfully Sammy Hagar had his back and they worked together ever since I believe 2005.
Sammy said the new manager was a POS and was the source of many problems that could have been avoided if the brother in law really new how to manage a successful band and organization such as Van Halen.
Where the Roth-era sort of peaked at their most contentious, the Hagar-era peaked at their most harmonious and the F.U.C.K. record captures that moment perfectly
agree...wheels came off at balance
Damn, you got me with playing "runaround" in the background. Not even 1 1/2 minutes in & I had to pause the video and listen to runaround in its entirety, then come back. It's good to see someone from Van Halen celebrating Van Halen! There's a lot to celebrate in ALL of Van Halen's history.
Mikey is a wicked singer!
I'd LOVE to hear his isolated vocals. I don't think I've found any yet.
Two of the coolest dudes out there. Always love listening to these guys talk music. Carnal Knowledge is still a fantastic record.
It's nice hearing them speak so highly of Alex.
Alex needs to stop holding a grudge and talk to them. Life's too short!!
Yeah…then Sammy bitched that Alex won’t sign off on him using Ban Halen in videos, or TV and such…why? Sammy said..” He didn’t like the way we spoke about him! “
If you think Sammy's an a-hole then you're a Total Idiot!!@@Kinger1625
It's better than he deserves. Alex is just an angry roadblock at this point and it will all be better when he's gone and Wolfgang takes over all rights.
Great album and great stories from this album. This is my personal favorite of the Hagar era stuff. Andy Johns producing along with Eddie and Ted Templeman. Great AVH drum sound. So Awesome to get some insight from Mike and Sammy on this one.
Glad I got to see these guys play a bunch of times. no gimicks no lazers no make up just the best damn band in the world having fun. You never see other bands having fun like these guys did.
yep. they just wore normal clothes aswell.
Rush did
My. Favorite. Record. Of. ALL!!! TIME!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you Sam, Mike, Al and King Edward for bringing this into the world!!!
I love that this is someone’s favorite record. It’s definitely the best Sammy album. Poundcake, Runaround, and The Dream is Over are gemstones.
Все альбомы с Семми в составе Ван Хален хорошие !
Excellent Album, along with the other albums Sammy made with Van Halen. Those songs will never get old!
I remember spinning the CD first time in late summer 1991. Towards the end I hearing the opening riff to the Top of the World was spiritual.
I still get chills whenever I hear the opening to Runaround!
I remember this album and tour very well. Saw the band December 13th, 1991 in Miami and waited behind the old Miami Arena to see the band off in their limo. Some of the best of times seeing these guys perform.
Man I love these foot notes, behind the scenes of the past. Keep em coming you 2 awesome musicians
Love hearing these stories. I vividly remember buying F.U.C.K. the day it came out and it brings back so many great memories for me as a 17 year old without a care in the world.
One of my favorite Van Halen albums.
Edward's not dead, God just needed some guitar lessons. Amazing album. But then again, they all were. Love hearing stories from Sammy and Mike.
Love that thought 🤟
"Everyone had their own identity." I agree; I've often said that VH was its own super group, because each member was among the top at his thing.
Love the stories about the making of the Sammy era albums..... ❤ Fantastic music ❤
This was the first VH album I bought. At the time I was a young teen and didnt know anything about them. When I first played it I was surprised it didnt sound like anything like I heard on the radio. I then realized it wasnt Dave. Regardless I was hooked! Such powerful sound from all members! Poundcake was the first song and I was curious how Eddie got that sound. Shortly after I saw the music video next thing I knew was me sneaking into my fathers work truck to "borrow" his Makita drill! Awesome album still one of my favs!
I think it was my first too. I played the hell out of that CD and still have it.
Awesome stories! It's nice to hear more info about the music from Sam and Mike. I collected all VH, Sammy Hagar, DLR, CDs. Singles, imports, box sets, full albums too. Learned how to play all VH songs on guitar! Thanks VH. Also went to many of your concerts. This is my favorite album.
GREAT record!!!!!!! One of my all time favorites!!!!!
This was the best VH album all time and I shared with all my neighbors wherever I was. I'd drive all over Michigan going to auto races with this cassette tape or CD busting my ear drums. Love it still.
Thats an EXCELLENT album! You guys came to Hawaii in 1992 and you did 2 shows i went to both! I still remember how good you guys sounded!
Can’t get enough of this!!!!
It's a masterpiece ❤
When youre not under the gun of the label you have time to perfect everything, and drive everyone nuts including yourself Alex & Ed gotta get that "brown" sound. Great album.
Always happy to see Michael Anthony.
MA is so underrated as a musician period.
Love this album!!
Yo man I recently found that my favorite vocals are mike!! Dude it’s so awesome to find out that not only was he an amazing bass player he’s also a great singer!!!🎉❤
The coolest...can't wait for the tour!
Wish you guys all the best! Your music made my life bareable at times. I wished I was never born 😔 I want to go home so badly 😢
ANIMO. TODOS. ESTAMOS. CON. TIGO. ✌️😃
Love playing Michael's bass lines!!
I'm coming to watch you in Vegas for my birthday Sammy. It's been a minute. Cheers and cold beers! 🍻🌊
RIGHT NOW I am listening to a mini-documentary about the album that contains 'Right Now'!
29th of April 1993, Wembley Arena, England; I accidentally punched my Dad in the head re-enacting the *Runaround* video in the audience during your show! Saw you guys again in Wembley *Stadium,* 1995... Haven't seen you since though! You gotta come back one more time! 🙏🇬🇧
Really cool stuff on Andy Johns and Al. I love these stories.
That record was the soundtrack to so many great moments in 1993 to me and quite a few friends, when I was 17.
I was free, and 21 when this hit.
It was just so awesome to have my band on top for so many years.
Strong Strong Strong.
Awesome, awesome record!!!
Andy was a unique individual with a unique personality.
He was in a friendly competition with his renowned brother, Glen Johns, an excellent and professional producer.
Ah, Glyn Johns, a guy who worked with legends like the Beatles, the Eagles and the Who ;)
Awesome story, thanks for sharing
Miss Al. Wish he would come out and tell us how he is doing. Thanks guys!
I love the stories they tell!!!!😊😊😊 fascinating hearing the making and history!!!😊😊😊😊
That’s right Mike crank up the bass! 👍🎸🤘🏻
Love this!! Legends.
Van Halen is awesome. Sammy has so much swagger.
Love you guys!
Superb ❤
In earlier days our little band spent HOURS working a good drum sound, many, many hours. When Curtis Johnson came on to work rehearsals, his experience recording Don Brewer's drum sound led him to experiment with the sonics of the drums, room, mics, recorder and any outboard stuff till exasperation set in for us guitar players. But it paid off in the tape!
Nice little details
Alex doesn't get the recognition he deserves for his drum sound.
I have news for the two of you, Im 56 now, when those albums came out VH was my life lol
My fav hard rock album of all time!
💪😎 Contenders for #2 are Montrose 1st, Black Sabbath Sabotage, Jackyl & UFO Obsession
My favorite Hagar ere album!! not a bad song on there and its heavy
I was in college when Carnal Knowledge come out. It was all that was playing! Love it!
I love you guys. Glad you. Are still together
Killer album!!¡!!!!
My favorite VH album!
❤HAPPY BIRTHDAY MIKE❤
I love how Sammy just talks about Alex and Dave like it's nothing, knowing good and well that Dave basically hates him, and Alex seems to not care whatsoever.
Mikey has to do some type of book of all these behind the scenes Van Halen stories.
Andy certainly did a great job recording the bass on the Hughes Thrall and Riggs lp's in the early '80's
It would be super cool when you guys reprint this Collection II since everybody who resells them online want an arm and a leg. You guys strike me as way cooler than to not reprint another round of this new collection II. Thank you ahead of time for resupplying this set sooner than later. ~CRB
Sammy Belcher! Saw you on PBS the other night. Cheers!
Love the sammy years but this record never leaves my player
Brilliant Album
The Best VH album!
I've always thought that was the best sounding Sammy era VH album by far.
Album came out my freshman year in college. Saw them Sept 1991 in Denver at Fiddlers Green. Alice in Chains opened (epic). Was my first VH concert...but had been a fan since 1984. Fave Album: OU812
Absolutely love the Van Hagar era for real.
Great stories😊
I love both hard rock Van Halen period and the more AORish Van Hagar era , Eddie was great to play piano/keyboards as well as guitar. Sammy and Michael voices absolutely anazing!!!!
Sammy/Mike please, please, please come to the UK and tour🙌🤞🤘😎
Just listened to Ted Templeman’s book. Highly recommended for all VH fans. Among all of his great stories, he talks about how he was asked to come back for this record and help get Andy Johns back on schedule and get it “together”. There will never be another Van Halen, and we were lucky to be alive for those times.
Great sounding album. Saw them play in Massachusetts with Skid Row and Vince Neil. Good times. "EDDIE EDDIE EDDIE!!"
Algun día , ojalá y no se quede en un sueño, ver a Sammy, Michael , Alex Van Halen y Wolfang Van Halen en la guitarra , en tour. Sería tan refrescante y energético. Ojalá
Fantastic alum
As a drummer I always hear people say 'the Bonham sound' I never went after that. Especially with my snare. I went for a mix between Alex' sound and drum corps sound. I got a ton of compliments on my snare and drum sound. I finally got a sound and playability that I loved out of my snare that kind sounds like a mix of gunshot and plywood snap. My toms were 'thunder drums' tuned low and just sang. Tuned my bass drums to resonate like a mis 80's bass drum corps line - before they became really staccato. I refused to put holes in the front heads and drove sound guys crazy. I wanted that cross between Van Halen and the early Tommy Lee stuff.
Some bangin' tunes on that album. I wonder, did Sammy ever learn that 'fuck' doesn't mean what Benny the Jet told him it means.
Sammy's sound on David Letterman is probably the best I've ever heard on tv. It's all different but that was amazing. He's got the magic ear when with the best in the world.
For unlawful is my favorite album of van sam.
Two awesome guys that got screwed over by the Van Halen Brothers, nice to see them still making wonderful music,
Best kik sound AVH ever had. andy johns was in olmypic studios when I was recording there once, and the robb brothers asked him about miking a kick drum. NEVER have a front head on it, was the first thing he said.
Mike is the 🐐
I always knew Michael Anthony's bass volume was too low during the DLR years.
F.U.C.K. is my favorite Van Halen album. It's an 11 track masterpiece. The bass and drums on that album are awesome.
Fair Warning is #2, for me. It's all subjective and a matter of opinion. Everything they've ever done kicks ass. I just prefer Sammy over Dave.
So where can I find the 5 vinyl Collection II box set? It’s unavailable everywhere.
This was the bright and cheerful side of Van Halen.
Michael since Sammy won't answer me I need tickets(great ones) for my wife and I to see you in Chicago this year !! We have come every time to see you guys and missed out on tickets this coming tour and need tickets BADDDD !! I know your from here so help me out please ! Have a good one and hope to hear from you or Sammy !!! Thanks!
Great record… great band
We miss ya Alex! Come visit us sometime...
Love the Sam man and Mikey
Nice that they have such a great connection, that neither completely lost those friendships. The brothers were stupid egomaniacs. You can tell these guys genuinely care for each other.
AVH is a excellent drummer, definitely in my top 5. AVH is highly influenced by Bonham, he even sits low on his kit like Bonham..
❤it
So many great memories from this album and tour and RHRN live summer tour that followed. Thanks for all the great summers guys. See you at Red Rocks in August! RIP EVH
I love the over all sound on that record it’s huge!!!!!
