Maybe Micheal Hagar ? I was front row for 5150 tour at BC place with Bachman turner overdrive and some other band with Randy Bachman in it opening . Eddie was so young and full of guitar magic . And at the time everyone was writing off Van Halen as has beens …..
OU812 was so underrated. That sound on Cabo was so cool.
12 string Gibson double neck through the H3000 harmonizer.
I always felt “OU812” & “Balance” are underrated Van Halen albums and “Balance” especially.

Van Halen was at it`s best with Sammy on the mic. Sammy was about the music, Dave was about the party, Dave was HAMMERED when I saw them and I left the shows pissed about it. Always left happy with Sammy out front. Thanks for the memories Sammy, God Bless.

And 86 to 95 were the best years of my life.

Cabo Wabo is such an underrated song - every VH album seems to have one, a track that maybe wasn't a single and rarely got raved about but was secretly probably the best song on the record. On Fire, Light Up The Sky, Romeo Delight, Dirty Movies, Little Guitars, Drop Dead Legs, 5150, Cabo Wabo, In 'N' Out, Seventh Seal, Me Wise Magic (technically a single, but whatever), Once, Blood And Fire...
Amsterdam and don’t tell me (what Love Can do) are those songs for me too off of balance

Yes!! Cabo Cabo is one of my all time favorite VH songs too! And for all the reasons you stated. Eddie's shimmery guitar tone, Eddie and Mikey's beautiful "Ooh" harmonies in the pre-chorus , Sammy and Mikey's harmonies in the chorus, Alex's lilting, hypnotic drum beat in the chorus, the phat, heavy groove in the verse, those gorgeous outro harmonies as the song fades into the sunset. Loved learning how to play this on guitar as a kid in the 80's. Blast it whenever I find myself driving up the PCH along the beaches and ocean.
It's so cool hearing Sammy act out the riff of Cabo Wabo. Such a damn good song!

This is my favourite Van Hagar era album. So nice to have a new remaster of it to listen to in such great sound quality. Fantastic album.
Cabo Wabo is probably my fave song on the album, great song. Sammy and Mike are just plain cool 😎.
Ed's tone on that album has amazing. They all sounded great!!! The bass, the drums, the vocals!! God, I love this album!

I always loved VH, and I always loved Sammy. So when y'all got together it was epic for me! Just the other day a VH song came on the radio and I turned to my daughter and said, "This is Sammy singing on this one!" Lol

Love hearing you guys reminisce. Van Halen was and still is one of my all time favorite bands! Definitely my favorite as a kid. I used to try and play drums like Alex (and failed). Awesome music. Legends!

Back when rock music was fun, I got my first Jeep and the OU812 cassette around the same time in high school. Wore that cassette out playing it nonstop all around town. I had to buy a second OU812 cassette. I actually still have it today, although no tape player lol
Dudes dig that album in my long drives and ear something different all the time.
Those two guys have a lot of heart.

When they rolled through my town with this concert I lost me voice from yelling! Everyone went ballistic during this concert! And all the other VH ones I was at!
You can see deep emotion within Mike’s eyes and the memories of happier times with the band. Im glad he got to bond with Sammy like a real brother for as much as he was hurt by the two VH brothers and pushed to the side.
Mike will always be the higher voice and beloved bassist that gave VH their defining sound for many years.

OU812 brings back good memories. Sucker In A 3 Piece is one of the heaviest songs VH ever recorded imho. And Feels So Good is such a fine ballad, a true gem. And how about When It's Love... Another classic ballad. Creatively VH were at their peak in the late 80's. Legendary band.

How great it was for these guys to be able to come together and create some of the best Rock and Roll music ever. Musically and lyrically. I have songs written, sitting next to me on my couch, that I cannot find anyone to work with and make these songs happen for the world to hear. I was working at Atlantic Aviation in South Bend In. when you two came out to play some at a local casino. You two were level headed and approachable...nice folks. They were magic, I remember Sammy Hagar ? Wow that’s a weird match and 5150 came out and I was shocked at how good it was and inspiring, then a month or two later saw them in concert apart from it being an amazing show , they all genuinely looked like they were happy and a solid band of brothers. I love all of Van Halen but those Sammy years were special for me when I was 14 years old. Was the soundtrack of my youth

Cabo was the first Van Hagar song that i loved. From the first time hearing it on the radio i was hooked! I liked 5150. Moreso the music, as i was a Dave fan as a teen 😆 But Cabo Wabo made me buy that album plus 5150. Cassettes actually if i remember correctly 😂

I interviewed Michael for my magazine Bass Frontiers at the Oakland Stadium somewhere around 97. You wound up sick and the show didn't go on that night. We had a great time with Michael. He had just gotten the chillies on his arm! Those were good times.
