      More like cauterise. Although, to do a nerdy nitpick, the lightsaber output can be adjusted - thus why the hilt has all those switches. So, they can cut and seal a wound like Luke’s stump of a wrist, but also can be altered leave the wound open like when Han used it on the tauntaun’s belly.

    I'm old because I saw this in theaters in 1980 as a young child. The theater audience freaked out and gasped when Luke lost his hand. Then grasped again when Vader revealed to Luke he was his father. Someone in the audience yelled, "Bullshit!!!"
    For the next 3 years, it was an actual debate whether or not Vader was lying to Luke. Imagine if we had an archive of social media posts from 1980-1983. Because that would have given young people a good idea of how this plot twist was debated.

    ‘I’m so confused’, ‘how is that possible?’- well when a man and a woman love each other very much……..
    Why are reactors so shocked when Luke has his hand cut off? Do they think because certain people are on the good side that they are invincible, don’t get hurt, feel pain like the villains. Luke seeing his aunt and uncle burnt to a crisp is more shocking than this.
    I do wish more younger reactors would be more open minded to what is going on, what happened to Vader rather than ‘ he’s got to be lying, no I don’t accept that’. Star Wars showed that family life is complicated, even in a galaxy far far away.

      Two reasons: The movie is still marked as family-friendly. And no one expects such a thing to happen to the main hero, short to the end of the film.

    "Secret" as it is famous line in Star Wars. George Lucas and others on production had Mark Hamill and David Prowse (Darth's body) with James Earl Jones dubbed that famous line, "I Am Your Father". Then all 3 had to signed NDA's or Non-Disclosure Agreements meaning they can't mention the "secret" until premiere of Empire Strikes Back. 6:07 “is he gonna bleed out?”
    Fair question. Luke’s been mutilated. For anyone unfamiliar with the answer, a lightsaber cauterizes wounds. It burns hot enough to sear flesh. Which, conveniently, stops bleeding. If a species has different blood and flesh, that might not happen. Some people and creatures in Star Wars can handle heat exceptionally well. Humans though? Our meat cooks on lightsabers.

It displeased Lucas quite a bit and was the start of the end of their relationship. Prowse's role as vader was reduced more as time went on until he only did one scene in ROTJ.

    It's shocking that people don't know this given the popularity of the franchise. I know the last 6 or 7 films have been mid to bad, but how do you not realize that the whole thing works because the first two were extremely good films?

    Ya.. Vader wasn’t much of a father. Or husband. Or friend. Or pupil. Or son. Or teacher. Or commander. His troops couldn’t even shoot accurately. He pretty much sucked at every aspect of life. Without powers and James earl jones voice he’s the biggest loser of all time.

    • @ronaldnelson6692
      @ronaldnelson6692 11 днів тому

      That's not how they were released. Episode 4 came out in 1977 where episode 1 came out in 1999. To get the true experience, it's better for the first time watching to start with 4, 5 and 6 then watch 1, 2 and 3 otherwise, the reveal in 5 is pointless.

    • @thomasroth461
      @thomasroth461 11 днів тому

      @ronaldnelson6692 nein sicher nicht wenn du wissen willst wie die Geschichte von Star Wars ist fängst du bei Episode 1 an und nicht in der Miete . Das ist auch der Grund wieso die meisten 100 Jahre brauchen bis sie begreifen das Anakin zu Vader wird. Das Release Datum hat nichts mit der Reihenfolge der Episoden zu tun. Das war vielleicht vor 20 Jahren wo nicht alle Filme verfügbar waren

      @@thomasroth461 Also ich persönlich würde Personen die noch nie einen Star Wars Film gesehen haben zuerst die OT schauen lassen dann die Prequels und dann die Sequels. wenn man zahlenmässig anfängt kommt ja das "Nein ich bin dein Vater" ja gar nicht überraschend da man ja schon weiss das Anakin/Vader Lukes Vater ist und dann dieser OMG Effekt nicht mehr existiert. Aber das ist nur meine Meinung darf natürlich jeder so schauen wie er es möchte😁

      I wouldn‘s say THE most famous plot twist, since not everyone likes or has see Star Wars, but certainly among the top one. Other famous plot twists from sci-fi movies include “you maniacs, you blew it up!” (Planet of the apes) and “Soylent green is people!” (Soylent green)

      I’d like to know what cave “reactors” grew up in to not know any of the references they are reacting to as grown adults. Same goes for them hearing songs for the first time. “Someone in the chat said that Michael Jackson was apparently a popular singer, so I am going to listen to some song named ‘Thriller’ for the first time. Hopefully it is good.” Or “I hear that some dude named Elvis Presley was a singer. Never heard of him, but let’s check him out.”
