@@philippschmidt80 I know, as I've been a fan since watching the original movie in theaters in 1977. And Leia kissing Luke wasn't supposed to end up the way it did later, either (you know what I mean). However, none of this is the way the story ended up, which is ultimately what matters. Everything doesn't have to be deliberate or planned out ahead. The story development process is its own separate story, not the story we actually got on the screen.
Also, notice when luke first asks obi wan what happened to his father, obi wan looks away, makes a little concerned pause, and then answers about vader "killing" his father.
When Darth Vader said He was Luke's father. The entire theatre went silent and then all hell broke loose. It was by far the most shocking revelation I have witnessed. It was the nucleus that made the movie succeed.
And the best part is that it's not a twist that brings down the rest of the movie if you know it. I've seen this film more times than I can remember, and the twist only got me the first time, obviously, but it remains a great film anyway.
This was the best Empire Strikes Back reaction I have seen for the following reasons: 1. You guys not even knowing who Yoda was made it so nostalgic. It reminded me of when I first saw this movie when I was a kid. 2. Ash seeing Lando: "Oh my God, was a handsome man..." Perfect lol 3. You guys not knowing Vader was Luke's father, and your reaction to finding out was the cheery on top.

its so refreshing to see people actually experience the hidden master plot line with Yoda... we all seen it that way just once so long time ago... till this day im convinced Lucas used it again for second time on even bigger scale in Episode One with Darth Jar Jar... but the reveal in Episode 2 never came due to the backlash.
i REFUSE to believe there are actually ppl who know NOTHING about starwars left in the world. its so great to see a genuine first reaction where EVERYTHING is new
You have no idea how refreshing it is to see someone react to "I am your father" for the first time. Just shows that these movies are and will always be timeless classics.
@@musical_lolu4811 No. he's right. This is one of the most famous lines in movie history. Even people that have never seen Star Wars knew this line and that Darth Vader was Luke's father.
This is absolutely pathetic how they're pretending. I understand not everyone's seen Empire Strikes Back, but TO NOT KNOW WHO YODA IS OR THAT VADER IS LUKE'S FATHER, I call BS on that. They're trolling you all. It's literally impossible to live on this planet and not recognize Yoda or not know the MOST WELL KNOWN MOVIE TWIST IN FILM HISTORY. FOH with that.
You know, back in the day, a lot of women found that response as very romantic believe it or not. To have a woman profess her love and for the guy to acknowledge that he's known for a while because he was player enough to see through all her games the whole time.
Took me decades to realize on Dagobah, Luke LITERALLY crawled down a rabbit hole of his own subconscious to confront the darkness of his own Skywalker DNA
Yeah between that and him just putting together that Anakin is Vader so easily, the name Anakin being as rare as it is, and only being mentioned once in the movie way earlier on when the Emperor says "Anakin's son is out there" .. These two things have caused me to believe Ash is faking not having seen Star Wars. I don't really care that he is faking, but he is faking none the less in my opinion.
Empire Strikes Back is one of the best movies I've ever seen. Its pacing is incredible. It's two hours but feels like one and a half hour of actions and pure entertainment.
The "I love you" and the "I Know" response is about the fact that from beginning of movie Han knew she cared about him but wouldn't say, so when she finally did he was just reconfirming what he knew all along.
@@DrowningKraken That is just false, and stupid. He did ad lib "I know", but it had nothing to do with Carrie Fisher being "coked out" lol. Good grief what a stupid comment.
@@DrowningKraken While it is true that Carrie Fisher did a ridiculous amount of coke during the late 70s and most of the 80s (Mark Hamill didn't, at least not to any real extent, dunno where you got that from), her issues didn't affect this scene...they just couldn't get the I love you response from Harrison to sound right with the scene, it didn't fit his character at the time, so Harrison ad-libbed "I know" and it worked far better, so it got used.
@@TahiriVeila13ABYIs was true she was a coke fiend Wrote about it in her book Postcards From the Edge Plus she was in an affair with Harrison at the time. In #3 they reverse it and she gets him back.
The line "I know" was a last minute idea. They knew that with Han being the rough and tough smuggler that he was, it wouldn't be easy for him to simply say "I love you too", those words were not in the character's vocabulary. So, the line we got was improvised by Ford after the director told him just come up with whatever he felt that Solo would say in a moment like this.
Han understood that she wanted to make sure he was aware of her feelings for him. Him saying, "I know," is his way of telling her that he's more competent than she thinks. He's implying that he knows things that she's unaware of. It's a very dominant but empathetic mindset for Han to have, almost fatherly and consoling, but in a romantic way. It's not just a cold and distant uncaring dismissal of her feelings. It's exactly the opposite, and if that had happened to any woman IRL, she'd understand it in the moment. But they watch it and some are confused. I think I know why this is confusing for some, but it's inappropriate to discuss. Suffice to say that sweet Hannah probably knows nothing about subspace and that's not a sci-fi reference. It's a bedroom reference.
It's so rare, that people don't know anything about this quote or reference. Watching you guys getting blown away by the great reveal is fantastic. Having felt the same long time ago.
Yes his uncle knew. Remember his aunt, in the first movie, said "he cant stay here forever, he has too much of his father in him" and uncle said "thats what I'm afraid of"
42:53 - you didn't notice that at first, but Vader actually hold his breath in that scene right before striking Luke. Right after that he's breathing rapidly and heavily. Man, the details.
I was there in 1980 when the reveal happened in the theatre. People gasped yelled, two women were crying. Its cool seeing a younger generation have fun watching the movies that meant so much to me when I was a kid. Cool reaction, thumbs up.
That's what blew me away. Not only that, this is years of reacting to movies on a big YT channel 🤣🤣🤣 It makes sense though, I think fantasy and sci-fi has never been their cup of tea in their "previous life".
I always advocate for prequels first because everyone knows the twist. Everyone reacts to the OT first anyways but this has to be the first I've seen where they genuinely didn't know and I must say it was amazing.
Ash looks like the Persian Pippi Longstocking. I love how you two start out each reaction vid by telling us a little something about your personal lives. So awesome and why we all love you guys.

Interestingly that line was improvised. They couldn’t figure out what would be a good response from Han so they asked Harrison Ford to just say what he thought the character would say and we got this!
@@davidt1621 The fact that most women don't understand the "I Know" line is really disappointing. Leia knows Han loves her. It's obvious even from their argument in the tunnel on Hoth. Han knew Leia loved him. Leia didn't know Leia loved him. Him saying that was saying "I love you too even with all of your baggage". Maybe women don't like the idea that a woman could have irrational baggage holding them back in a relationship and a man could still love her, thereby being the one with more power in the relationship. Who knows. It's a beautiful moment though, and women are missing out by being offended by it.
@@davidt1621 It's interesting how men see Han's reply. Both of your takes make a lot of sense. As a woman, I felt it was his way of being stoic and strong for her so she doesn't melt down. I'd probably melt down in that situation.
Im 54 and saw this movie in 1979 when it came out (and have seen it 100's of times since then). Ive known that Darth Vader was Luke's father for almost 45 years now....as millions and millions of other people have known. I actually envy you guys for just realizing this in 2024.
Han Solo's "I know" is kind of like Westley's "As you wish" from The Princess Bride. It does mean I love you, but it's more about the unspoken connection. Han has always had some sort of zinger or sly comeback, but it this moment, the simple acknowledgment and acceptance says more than any canned romantic phrase would. Leia knows how he feels, and Han knows how Leia feels. I think it also shows Hans acceptance of his own death and sacrifice. He loves Leia, but he accepts that he won't ever see her again.
I'll never forget being 13 and seeing this in the theater with my dad and best friend. Star Wars had changed my life three years before. The anticipation was amazing and this film delivered. It is better than the original. The darker, more adult tone hit hard. And that ending. Amazing
Best. Fucking. Reaction. Ever. I live for people seeing "I am your father" for the first time. Reminds me of hearing it in the theater for the first time. I was young, but I shit directly into my pants and cried for half a day because of that. Love it.
Mike, I was around 6 1/2 when I saw ESB. I cried in the theater when he said he was Luke's father. See, I saw the first film at age 4 1/2. Hearing Vader say that shattered me, because my 6 yr old self hated Vader with an intense passion.
I remember seeing the 90s re-release and being absolutely terrified of the scene in the freezing chamber, both just how claustrophobic it feels and how scared I was of Luke falling due to how high up he was.
This. This is the proper reaction to THAT plot twist! We all had the same reaction as kids in the 80s, and nothing was ever the same again, for Luke and for us as fans! That reveal literally changed everything about this trilogy!
When this movie came out there was a 50/50 believability factor whether Vader was really his father or was lying to him. The movie never confirms it and the debate went on until episode 6. It was the best mystery since “who shot JR” from the TV show Dallas. Ok im dating myself.
You’re going to find out whether Darth Vader was lying or telling the truth about being Luke’s father. The question is, do you want to find out by just going on to episode 6 (following the “release order”) or do you want to find out by watching the episodes 1,2,3 to get the “backstory” (the so called “machete “ order), and then going on to episode 6 to tie it all together?
An insight on the whole "I love you - l know" between Leia and Han: The whole movie they refuse out of pride to tell each other openly what they both feel until that point. When Leia realizes he could die, she drops the game and tells him, just for Han to say "I know", meaning: "I have also been silly, but l know, because l do love you too". It's two people deciding to leave pride aside and realizing what's important above all: the love they feel for each other. Highly underated/misunderstood moment(s) in the movies, but it's actually great. 👌🏼
Hands down the best "I am your father" reaction I've seen from ANYONE on yt!! It seems like everyone is spoiled on this twist so I've never seen a true reaction from an adult before, that was epic! Been with you guys since it was Ash and baby sis; I'd highly recommend you post the father moment and reaction as a short .. it's such a fabulous moment for you two, imo it will bring more fans to the channel. ❤
If you're this excited about the first two movies then it's quite clear you're hooked which means you're in for one hell of a ride. Y'all have many more movies to watch & you will not be disappointed, please make sure you watch them all in order. Nearly every character in the original trilogy will play a pivotal role down the road. I am 52 yrs old & was fortunate enough to start from the very beginning of the Star Wars story & it is awesome to see these movies still captivate new audiences
I heard that Han was supposed to say “I love you too” or something like that- but it just didn’t feel right. They shot it over and over and Harrison Firs just wasn’t comfortable. So the director just told him to go with what felt right and “I know” came out. It is certainly a very Han thing to say. Especially since he is still growing as a character.
This is everything I ever wanted in a reaction to this film. I've seen people who weren't spoiled on Vader yet. I've never seen people who were so totally innocent going in, AND understood every level of what they were watching. Of course this is a movie parents show their kids as soon as possible if they love it, so I've seen "I am your father" reactions from kids anywhere from age 3 to 10. None of them ever get hit by it the same way an adult does. Nobody ever is enough of a child to understand the Force and the father-son tension, AND enough of an adult to understand the romantic subtlety between Han & Leia. You two get the whole package, and it's brilliant. A girl who says with certainty "He doesn't love her," and a guy who says with equal certainty, "he does," tells you just how perfectly written that whole scene was. Brilliant. Best reaction to anything I've seen in years. I'm too young to have been there when this movie was released (I was born 9 months later, which makes me have some very weird feelings about how I got my name). But this is the first reaction that really captured how it must have felt being there.
When you said it makes you feel like you're 3-4 years old, that got to me. I first saw this movie when I was 3, because my Dad had the original trilogy on VHS. He died when I was 9. Years have passed, and I'm 22 now and this is a movie I'll cherish forever.
Fun fact: only George Lucas, and director Irvin Kersher knee of the Darth Vader father twist beforehand. Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker for those who somehow dont already know) only found out the morning they shot the scene.
To keep the reveal a secret There was an alternative line that was used in the script and in filming the scene that was “Obi wan killed your father.” Vader’s voice line wasn’t recorded until post.
I love how Hanna can say some of the craziest sounding shit, but more often than not there is a genuine, solid reasoning to her logic. She just comes at it from a different angle that seem to bend space and time, before arriving at her point.
This has to be the best reaction to this movie out there. The fact that you knew NOTHING and were able to nail down some of the most intricate "Symbolisms" is magnificent.
that twist has been in pop culture since 1980. it's so nice to see people who have never heard of it react! and that controversy went world wide until the 3rd movie.
You 2 are truly 2 or my favorite entertainment personalities ever, A list Hollywood and all, keep up what you do, it’s so great! Gives a single dad like me some laughter when my daughters are at their moms.
I love how you guys don't take yourselves too seriously it legit makes your reactions better and you guys are definitely unique in the reaction world thank you.
I am so happy that you two got the symbolism of the cave vision right off. That and Yoda’s ‘size matters not’ speech are two of the most spiritually profound moments in this franchise. And you’re absolutely right about the meaning, too: “master your anger, or your anger will make you into a monster.” So accurate and so true. And it’ll be important again in _Return of the Jedi! _
It's crazy growing up with these films and seeing others who know absolutely nothing about them. They are such a huge part of pop culture, so many things reference Star Wars.
26:10 Ash: How is a little midget turtle supposed to train us? Hannah: Well, 800 years he's been on that job. I mean, these two are brilliantly unique and hilarious!
The cave scene was more than a reflection, it was to cone if Luke ended up joining the Dark side. Deep stuff if one steps a Knights of the Round Table to discuss in greater length . . .
Interesting story about the "I love you - I know" line. Originally Han actually was scripted to say "I love you" back to her but it didn't quite seem right and they weren't getting the scene to work so they had done several takes. At that point Harrison had heard her say I love you so many times he ad libbed "I know". They ultimately felt it was more in line with Han's character and used that line instead
I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!! That reaction to "I am your father." That was the best ever! That it was never spoiled for you after all these decades is a bloody miracle. I spolied it for myself. Weeks before the movie opened in theaters, I could not wait and I bought the book. When I read, "I am your father." I reacted EXACTLY like you guys did! I was alone in the house. I ran out the door and screamed at my neighbors! "Darth Vader is Luke's father!!!!" When I finally saw it in theaters, I waited for it...the theater let out the loudest gasp ever! People were screaming at the screen. No, No NO!!!! I discovered the thrill of reaction videos that moment. I saw the film over a dozen times. When it got to that scene, I turned around and watched the audience react. It was an adrenaline rush I got addicted to. The reason I watch reaction videos. Ash, Hannah you just injected it straight into my veins!!!! Hannah, your reaction to Han saying "I know" was exactly what Han intended for Leia. He thought he was going to die. He wanted to leave Leia upset enough to remain strong to continue fighting. Hannah, your reaction was what he hoped Leia would do too.
Ash, quite excited, demanding a movie for Lando. He has no idea how happy he will be when he sees Lando's great role and participation in the next episode. Excellent reaction from both of them.
Found you guys last night and I'm absolutely HOOKED!! I usually stay away from reaction videos but you two have an amazing chemistry on camera. I've watched at least 15 or 20 videos already. Ash always shouting about symbolism and penetration sends me almost every time. And Hannah is so damn quick on picking up plots......and her accent ain't bad to listen to either. You both are freaking hilarious!! Keep doing what you do!!
Ash Lando is played by legendary actor, Billy Dee Williams aka "Mr. Cool" Williams has a lot of movies in his legendary career. Williams is 86 years old.
Aw Hanna! When Han says "I Know", it's to say "I don't doubt that at all". Like she would never say it without meaning it. He fully believes her when she says it because of how honest and good she is.
Hannah is bright .. working out that Vader is Anakin, Luke lived with his uncle.. put the pieces together very quickly. I can't beleive this is the first time you guys have seen this but it's great to see and looks genuine. Brilliant. Also, I remember as a 7 year old in 1984 thinking the same thing as Hannah about Solo saying " I know". I thought, thats rubbish and off, he should say I love you too. It's in the years since people say its a cool line but maybe it isnt. Hannah saying he doesnt love her then - I swear she's spot on with so much. You know in real life, the actress who played Leia was in love with him but he wasnt, and it was his idea to add that line - it wasnt in the script.
Oh my days. Best F-ing Reaction to this classic banger. Your reaction to the "big reveal" is THE best on the internet. The best SW movie ever made. And every fan has always been hoping every single other movie to at least come close to this one. Great simple fun story, well written, with characters that grow and have authentic and funny interactions, plot twists that make sense (and not made for the stupid “just to subvert expectations” aspect that in reality is just an egotistical thing), and a touch of non pretentious philosophy. The prequels feel like fast food, and the sequels like pre-heated food that tastes like plastic. So crazy that we never got Star Wars at this level again. The only ones I can remember getting close are Rogue One and Andor.

Best "I am your Father" reaction I've seen.
Didn't think it was possible still to have avoided that spoiler. I'm almost envious.

He's implying that he knows things that she's unaware of. It's a very dominant but empathetic mindset for Han to have, almost fatherly, but in a romantic way.
@@JWar- You're saying the quiet part out loud dude.
@@davidt1621 It's interesting how men see Han's reply. Both of your takes make a lot of sense. As a woman, I felt it was his way of being stoic and strong for her so she doesn't melt down. I'd probably melt down in that situation.
Some women actually found the "I love you > I know" bit a lot more romantic than your typical "I love you too" response.
Their reaction to Revenge of the Sith will be legendary.

Mike, I was around 6 1/2 when I saw ESB. I cried in the theater when he said he was Luke's father. See, I saw the first film at age 4 1/2. Hearing Vader say that shattered me, because my 6 yr old self hated Vader with an intense passion.
Seriously one of the best reactions to this part I have ever seen!!!! Your faces are just epic!!!

We also got to see the original versions and not these bastardized "special" editions.

Ash and Hannah, this is, by far, the BEST reaction I’ve seen on UA-cam to the big reveal by Darth Vader. Love y’all.
An insight on the whole "I love you - l know" between Leia and Han:
The whole movie they refuse out of pride to tell each other openly what they both feel until that point.
When Leia realizes he could die, she drops the game and tells him, just for Han to say "I know", meaning: "I have also been silly, but l know, because l do love you too".
It's two people deciding to leave pride aside and realizing what's important above all: the love they feel for each other.

Han Solo's answer ("I know") to Leia's "I love you", was improvised by Harrison Ford.

Interesting story about the "I love you - I know" line. Originally Han actually was scripted to say "I love you" back to her but it didn't quite seem right and they weren't getting the scene to work so they had done several takes. I PAUSED, THOUGHT ABOUT IT, AND DECIDED TO KEEP WATCHING FOR A WHILE LONGER JUST TO BE SURE I WAS MAKING THE RIGHT DECISION. BOY, AM I EVER GLAD THAT I DID! YOU GUYS ARE SIMPLY GREAT!!! 👍😎👍
This was priceless. It's amazing to see someone who genuinely knows nothing about star wars get the Empire reveal. Brilliant.
Seeing people who genuinely have NO IDEA what ANY of this is going into it is so rare. So much fun to watch, feels like I'm 4 years old again watching it for the first time
"He's got a CAPE! You *know* he has good music taste".
*"You know he has a round bed".*
How have they gone their entire life and NOT heard of the famous "I am your father" scene?
"You just know hes got a round bed" (derogatory)
*chefs kiss*
They originally had Han Solo say he loved her back but it did fit / sound right. Harrison Ford then said "I know" and they ran with it
They only changed it because Harrison didnt feel that Han is the type of guy to say "I love you" or "I love you too" back. They did one take with him going "I know" and thats the one they stuck with.
Hannah, your Leia cosplay looks great!
Also, your reaction to the “I am your father” line was priceless! Most people, even if they’re not Star Wars fans, will most likely know that line and the context behind it.
Just wait untill she do the cosplay of Leia inte the next movie, *wink wink
I love that after 40 something years, you two were able to avoid the biggest twist in cinema history and were genuinely surprised by the twist. Today, everyone, even if they never seent his movie...KNEW. Your reaction was everyone's reaction 40 years ago when they didn't have today's knowledge. I love it.
"Well dad, why d'you just cut me 'and off?!" I'm dead. 💀
Because you were willing to cut my head off in the cave, sonny!
