What I always loved about this scene is that the old man didn’t treat Murphy as a machine or a freak, he talked to him like he was still human, which he is in heart and mind if not in body. A nice touch that helped to humanise both characters.
Also thought that the Old Man remembered what Murphy said about being forbidden to act against an OCP officer...and figured the best way to eliminate Directive 4.
Perfect ending! Murphy proved that while he may be mostly machine, he's still human. Other "RoboCop" suggestions: ED-209, Murphy's death,RoboCop's first night,Murphy removing his mask & Murphy killing his killers.
The thing with the super long arms on Jones...him going out of the window was a last minute change, he was originally meant to just fall on the floor, and the actor didn't want to do the stunt, so it had to be cgi, and, in the VFX departments' defence, they had something like three days to create the whole scene, and with technology being what it was back then, a little scaling error is forgivable.
It's not a scaling error. His body is foreshortened because his feet are facing the camera. This makes his body look smaller while his arms look the same size (since they're sticking out to the sides.) If anything, it's a framing error. Changing the camera position, or the relative position of his body would have made it look less weird.
As I understand, there was intended to be one more News Break video showing Lewis in the hospital that she had not been turned into a RoboCop. But the emotional high of RoboCop reowning his name proved to be the best ending.
Yes, and it also would have shown the "I'll buy that for a dollar!" guy getting arrested for paedophilia. I think that final Media Break would have made a good post credits scene.
@@Rocket1377 Yes - except that no one ever thought of doing post-credit scenes back then. I think the first really notable example was Ferris Bueller's Day Off. And I can't think of another until 2008 Iron Man. (though I could be wrong)
@@brucef310 There are computer programs in word processing, these days, that automatically change the word "black" to "African American" in a document, no matter the context, or actual term being used. So, if you type in "Black Friday" it will be changed to "African American Friday". Black socks => African American socks, etc. Stupid, I know. That was my point.
UA-cam automatically censors videos containing these words, because it doesn't understand the context, so they have to mute to avoid the video going down
Yeah, his body is foreshortened because of the angle it was filmed at. Put your phone down at your feet and take a picture with your arms stretched out. See how odd it looks.
I would say RIP Dick but you are what your name is. Love ya Murphy. This movie was intense when i saw it as a kid. My parents didnt know what would become of this movie when we started it. Gore galore. The gore effects were really good in this movie.
Sometimes I get sad watching Robocop cause I sometimes feel like I’ve lost my own humanity with the robotic work I do. So but know I still have some spirit when I do the things I used to just like when he spins his gun. I know I’m looking too deeply into it. I guess it’s a testimony to good storytelling…..oh and my middle name is Murphy. 😎
I was waiting for someone to mention the weird long arms of the Dick model they used for the falling scene. It was done in miniature and the proportions were way off. In addition to being an accomplished Actor and Voice actor. Peter Weller is a director and a doctor. He has a PhD In Italian Renaissance Art History and Roman History from the University of California, Los Angeles.
@TheBrother847, It's not really disingenuous, but her shtick is to be the Uber wholesome reactor (along with her sister, who's even more extreme). Still, it's accurate to say she's learned a lot about the craft of filmmaking, and her sensitivity threshold has been somewhat lowered over time.

Peter Weller was so good as Murphy ! xx

It was stop motion, not CGI.

Since "Dick" is a shortened version of the name "Richard", the muting is actually unnecessary here.
Yeah. Like when they 'correct ' "Black Friday" to "African American Friday". 😂
Should go without saying, but, times being what they are....
@@Fast_Eddy_Magic I have never heard the term African American Friday.

RoboCop (1987) was one of the very first R rated movies I've rented from the video store, right after the first 2 Terminator movies.
Saw this movie as a Sneak Preview many years ago in NYC. Theater went crazy for this ending.
Same in LA
Peter Weller stated that he lost a lot of weight after wearing that Robocop suit.
I love how Robo's data spike still has Clarence's blood all over it.
They got Desert Eagles stashed around the board room! That company's wild!
after the "incident" with mr. Kinney one would think that loaded gun was removed from that case, but nooooo
Dick probably snuck it in there without anyone noticing. And by that point, he had the power too.
That Silver plated gun has to be THE UNLUCKIEST GUN ever! Nobody who picks it up ever gets to shoot it before getting ANNIHILATED!!! LMAO!!! 🤣🤣🤣
That's' life in the big city...
I actually saw Robocop in the theater when it came out. I'm glad it's still being watched today
No one mentions how this is one of the most recognizable music themes in sci fi movies.
It's fantastic. So simple yet so good and rich at the same time.
I wonder at times just how good your sense is of how to pick these moments, but this was brilliant. Thank you.
Dick shouldn't have been censored. It's not a swear word, it's his name.
True, but considering how much of a dick he is, it’s not entirely unjustified.
Dick is a nickname for Richard. It's not talking about the male genitals.
This and Robocop 2 are the ONLY Robocop's....We don't speak of that abomination of a remake.
I saw this movie at an entirely too young of an age, in the 80s. Loved it.
The model of Dick Jones falling to his death looks incredibly weird. The arms in particular are freakishly long.
Yeah, his body is foreshortened because of the angle it was filmed at. Put your phone down at your feet and take a picture with your arms stretched out. See how odd it looks.
Definitely a cathartic moment
Cassie (Popcorn in Bed) did not like this movie. Not exactly her "type", but she was a good sport to watch it.

I love how Dick Jones falling from the building was obviously a claymation puppet
The actor refused to do the stunt
They should have just used a stuntman. I'm sure it would have looked more convincing than the puppet.
It was the 80s!🙄
Johnson is the original reactor, all he needs is a "like, comment and subscribe"

UA-cam's censorship jackboot has to end bleeping out the name Dick witch is a shortened form of Richard is going to far.
I was three years old when this movie was released in 1987.
I'll buy that for a dollar
Murphy is the goat
this is a top 10 movie all time.
Perfect ending😎
Ya fired ! That's where he got it

Love the tings tings reference
Please make a compilation of reactions to the toxic waste scene.
Smart move
So stupid. But sometimes those movies are just what RX ordered
Nothing can compare my HATERED for Popcorn in Bed, she is so sensitive to movies its annoying....
I like most of her reactions, but yeah, it's a shame she couldn't enjoy this one. She did like Starship Troopers, though, which has the same director.
@@Rocket1377 Oddly enough I love Robocop but hate Starship Troopers (Mostly because it took a huge dump on the book).

As he’s falling, why are his arms so long?😂
Can’t drop a real human.
this was when films were still beautiful to watch without being poisoned by stinky feminism, woke and politically correct
