I'd be interested to see the top 20 cocktails according to you and your peers like How to drink, educated barfly, Anders, Truffles on the Rock and uncle Pete, etc.
The pantheon of bartenders and/or cocktail maestros. Picture this: they are sequestered in a windowless room with one cocktail shaker, one bar spoon, one bottle of bitters, one Hawthorn strainer, one bottle of rum and one lemon, and whoever is alive at the end of the televised event is the winner. A fortune could be made. I have the goosebumps just thinking about this...
Same here - but that was the flaw of using views from Difford's Guide - if their mojito recipe doesn't rank well on Google then it will naturally see less views. My next big compilation was created from poll results... so probably more accurate representation of what people like :)
The ranking being based on the most SEARCHED cocktails on a UK website, I'm not too surprised the Old Fashioned didn't make it. I feel like it's more of an American drink using Bourbon (or Rye) and is simple enough most people feel like they know the recipe. A lot of these other classic cocktails that make it - like the Margarita or Mai Tai - are something everyone thinks they know until it's time to make one, ie. no pre mix. During the summer my wife and I make Mojitos from mint out of our garden. It's something to enjoy the process as much as the drink. I think most ppl see the process and go for something else easier.
Inspiring framing theme - discussion starter. Got to see 20 cocktails, which inspired me to make an unrelated nice Alaska Cocktail riff: "47 Degrees North" from Scott Ruggiero of OAK at Fourteenth, Boulder CO. 2 Gin+3/4 Yellow Chartreuse+1/4 Blanc Vermouth+Dash Orange Bitters
Love your videos and also your Cocktail Guide (going to try to Gold Rush tonight)! Here's my top 5, in no particular order: Pisco Sour Division Bell Negroni Mexican Firing Squad Daiquiri Prost from Germany! :)
My favorite is the Black Manhattan. 2 parts Rye, 1 part Averna Amaro, 2 dashes each Angostura and Cherry Bitters. I add a half a bar spoon of Amarena Cherry juice and garnish with skewered cherry.
Stevo, another classic vid mate. Massive issue with the top 20 order. Margarita, Cosmo, Espresso, Negroni surely all Top 10. Also missing, Japanese Slipper (unbelievable, could colab?) and fav amongst my mates, Fireball Old Fashioned.... cheers mate
I know! It's all based on website views... so Google rankings also play a role. The next "top 20 gin cocktails" will be based on viewers votes so it will probably be more accurate.
2 of the best cockatails ive ever been served were a mojito and a gimlet, the later really surprised me as i hate gin with a passion. But both cocktails were served ice cold, and were so refreshing
It’s the second of a two part series.. the video was unlisted but accessible via a link in the previous video.. but it was only published for the first time a moment ago.
Good to watch you again Steve.. have missed that shaker smile 😁 ive always been a Cosmo girl but would love to give the Pornstar Martini a try! What is with the saline in some of the cocktails, have never seen or heard of it before? Is it really essential to the drink and where would you get it? Great video have loved your work for years 👍👍👍🫶
Recommend trying the espresso martini with a royal shake. Nice bright pop of lemon and a slight bitterness from the pith that pairs great with the coffee
I haven't tried many alternatives - seems that quite a few are produced in the US but not many here in Australia. A friend and local distiller makes one that is excellent but it's only available in Australia - Imperial Measures Distilling Auvert Liqueur: imdistilling.com/collections/shop/products/auvert-liqueur
This video played automatically after the part one, not sure how I saw it since you just released it, I saw it like a week ago. Great video though, I thought the margarita would have been number 1
Great video, would have been funny if you tasted them all. Pornstar martini is also very popular in the Netherlands. I believe almost every bar that has cocktails has it on the menu. The classics not so much.
The Porn Star being the #1 is a bit surprising, but then again I'm across the pond in the states. I'd hope that it's popularity becomes a gateway for other Passion Fruit cocktails. Seems a waste to mix it with Vodka so that the only thing you really have for flavors is the fruit and vanilla. Mixing PF with Rum like in a Hurricane, or Gin in a Saturn, or even Bourbon in a Port Light has so much depth of flavors. For a single bottle Mai Tai, or even mixing 2 lower cost Rums, Coruba and Denizen's Merchant Reserve are both excellent choices for something closer to the original intent of the drink. Appleton is a good choice, but comes up a bit lacking next to others category of dark Jamaican Rums.
Nope, my favorites didn't make the cut, though their relatives did. I prefer the Perfect Rob Roy over the Manhattan, & the Boulevardier over the Negroni. Maybe next year (but I doubt it).
According to Wikipedia, the DOM stands for "Deo Optimo Maximo" ("To God, most good, most great"). I guess that makes sense for a liqueur made by monks.
Ranked by views was probably not the best way - I’ve got a top gin cocktails video coming soon and they’ll be ranked by viewers! The shake and smile is kind of a signature of my channel :-)
I noticed in this video you often pour your spirits first and syrups last. Is this just you going down the ingredients list or is that a proper bartender cocktail practice? I have always done syrups/thicker items first and used my citrus and liquors to get the extra syrups that remain in the measuring cup after pouring.
I’ve always done it this way but many bartenders prefer to A) pour cheapest ingredients first and B) syrups first so other ingredients rinse the jigger. Neither is right or wrong. It’s just a preference.
The list is made up of the top pages visited on the Diffords Guide website, so if people already know how to make a drink, they won't need to look it up. That's probably why some very popular drinks didn't show up on the list, people already know how to make them.
@Stephen_Curtin , yes I was wondering about Pimms cups or G&Ts as well. Though Spanish style G&Ts that are a little bit more intricate are very popular here in the southern hemisphere right now.
The list was compiled from the entire year (2023) so it's not seasonal... ranking based on page views has it's downsides ie. if their page doesn't rank well on Google then it will receive way less views.
Hi Steve, a very poor top 10 in my view. Vieux Carre, Last Word, Naked & Famous, Mai Tai, Negroni and Kingston Negroni in any order are my favourites. Nick from York
And I thought Margarita was made out of, two shots of tequila silver tequila, One shots of cointreau or triple sec, one shots of of fresh lime juice, shake all of them and put in a chilled Margarita glass rim cover with salt, for garnish one slice of lime, on the rim of Margarita glass.

I'd be interested to see the top 20 cocktails according to you and your peers like How to drink, educated barfly, Anders, Truffles on the Rock and uncle Pete, etc.
I like this idea..

I knew espresso martini would make the top 5 but surprised I didn't see mojito or old fashioned in the top 5 let alone the top 20!
Same here - but that was the flaw of using views from Difford's Guide - if their mojito recipe doesn't rank well on Google then it will naturally see less views. My next big compilation was created from poll results... so probably more accurate representation of what people like :)
Mojitos, Margaritas and Expresso Martini are pretty popular here in NZ
The ranking being based on the most SEARCHED cocktails on a UK website, I'm not too surprised the Old Fashioned didn't make it. Mojito, definitely top of the line here in Texas, along with the margarita.
Aperol spritzes have been huge in Melbourne these last couple of summers, surprised they didn’t make the cut
Really love your videos, you're so passionate about everything you do and it's so chill to watch 💯 Keep up the great work, Steve 💪
Looking healthier in every video man! Great stuff!
Thanks Jesse! I’m feeling good now.. finally healthy enough to get back in the gym as of only a few weeks back.
My favorite cocktail is always forgotten and overlooked gimlet. It’s simple bright and refreshing!
It’ll feature quite highly in my upcoming top 20 gin cocktails video!
I've never liked gin, but got served one of these icy cold cocktails at a cocktail party, was so icy and fresh😊
The Last Word is my last word on my personal favourite cocktail of all-time, Steve.
Great job on these two videos.
Thanks Branden! Glad you enjoyed them :)
It looks fantastic… definitely going to give it a go.
A worthy list for sure

Fuck ya, great to hear more Dan Fellows! That guy is amazing and so underrated!!!!! Whoever reads this, please show him some love.
He's got a great channel!
Some of my favourites were there, like Last Word and Daiquiri, but I also missed a few, like MGM Grand, Sidecar and White Russian.
Steve your Long Island iced tea you taught us is god tier . It’s all I drink now.
Surprised it isn’t on this list.
Love your videos and also your Cocktail Guide (going to try to Gold Rush tonight)!
Here's my top 5, in no particular order:
Pisco Sour
Division Bell
Negroni
Mexican Firing Squad
Daiquiri
Prost from Germany! :)
Glad you enjoy my book! Division Bell is a winner for sure… and the Gold Rush.
My favorite is the Black Manhattan. 2 parts Rye, 1 part Averna Amaro, 2 dashes each Angostura and Cherry Bitters. I add a half a bar spoon of Amarena Cherry juice and garnish with skewered cherry.
That sounds amazing with the cherry bitters and juice. I need to try this!
That's my signature cocktail also! Or an Old-Fashioned/Whisky Sour ❤
Stevo, another classic vid mate. Massive issue with the top 20 order. Margarita, Cosmo, Espresso, Negroni surely all Top 10.
Also missing, Japanese Slipper (unbelievable, could colab?) and fav amongst my mates, Fireball Old Fashioned.... cheers mate
I didn’t decide the order 😅😂
Thanks! I've got some new options for the future.
5:17 "the smell is intoxicating"
That's nothing: wait til you drink it!
I understand that this was from a more UK point of view, but how is The Old Fashioned not on this list anywhere in the top 20?
I know! It's all based on website views... so Google rankings also play a role. The next "top 20 gin cocktails" will be based on viewers votes so it will probably be more accurate.
@@StevetheBartender_I gotta tell you, every single time you look up at your camera and smile when shaking like, "Oh, hey!'' it makes me laugh 😃!
Laughing is okay. As long as you're not cringing. 😅
@@StevetheBartender_ No cringe, my guy. You should always be smiling when behind the bar. If you're not smiling, why are you doing it at all?
Exactly.
My #1 is the Old Fashioned.
I prefer amaretto, rum and tequila based cocktails. My top are Amaretto sour, Mai Tai and Margarita. At least they made the top 20.
Where is the aviation? Bring on the violets!
I'm glad the last word made it to 8.
2 of the best cockatails ive ever been served were a mojito and a gimlet, the later really surprised me as i hate gin with a passion. But both cocktails were served ice cold, and were so refreshing
Try a couple drops of Chambord in your espresso martini. You'll never go back.
On the yellow-looking lime, that color means a lime is fully ripe.
Love the vieux carre, rusty nail, bobby burns!
Manhattan and Margarita (with a different recipe - .75 oz orange liqueur, lime juice, grapefruit juice, 2 oz tequila - try it).
I can't have grapefruit juice any more! 🥲
Is it the second time you upload it?
Or im getting crazy:)?
It’s the second of a two part series.. the video was unlisted but accessible via a link in the previous video.. but it was only published for the first time a moment ago.
@@StevetheBartender_ ok 😅❤️

Saline solution is simply salt water. 20g of salt to 80g of water (1:4 ratio). It works well in citrusy drinks by making the drink brighter.
whiskey sour and margarita.. my all time favorites
Recommend trying the espresso martini with a royal shake. Nice bright pop of lemon and a slight bitterness from the pith that pairs great with the coffee
Yea absolutely!
If these are the most popular drinks on the internet then the internet disappoints me
The first of the two part series explains where the list came from (most viewed cocktails on Difford’s Guide).
Love The Last Word! Any Chartreuse alternatives you’d recommend?
Strega for yellow Faccia Brutto Centerbe for green.
@@tommccafferty5591 I do like Strega!

@@StevetheBartender_ thanks, Steve! Yes, not many alternatives in Canada either
I've heard of all 20 except the Picante de la Casa. Coriander for me means it;s a waste of alcohol. I have the coriander gene so I can taste it.
A soapy cocktail is not ideal
Me too squashed stink bugs in drink form, nope
Old Fashioned with Old Forester rye is my fav. I usually cheat and use Liber and Co Old Fashioned Syrup/mix.
This video played automatically after the part one, not sure how I saw it since you just released it, I saw it like a week ago. Great video though, I thought the margarita would have been number 1
It was previously uploaded / unlisted so people could watch it after the first but I’ve only just hit publish.
I'm so surprised not to see mojito 😮 I guess it's out of fashion and I'm old 😅 Or people don't check the recipe cause they know it by heart!
It's probably the latter. You can find the Mojito *everywhere*
Oh yea probably that. Good call. Didn't even think of that
Picante de la Casa sounds undrinkable due to coriander :p love the Mai Tai tho ❤️ you're looking good, hope you're feeling healthy too 😊
Not a coriander fan? It was good! Feeling good thanks 🙏 😅
@@StevetheBartender_ mutant, coriander tastes like soap 😅 glad you're feeling better ❤️
I'm surprised that the old fashioned didn't make the list. I would think it would at least be more popular than the Manhattan.
It is in England. I’m sure it’s not popular there
I really love a boulevadier
Any recipes for B&B? I bought a bottle of it instead of Benedictine by accident and don't know what to do with it.
Great video, would have been funny if you tasted them all. Pornstar martini is also very popular in the Netherlands. I believe almost every bar that has cocktails has it on the menu. The classics not so much.
I’m all about peated scotch these days!!
I'm surprised there's no Gin & Tonic on that list
so cool! ☺☺
Paper Plane is much better if you break from the equal parts.
1 1/4 oz Bourbon
1 oz Amaro Nonino
1 oz Aperol
2/3 oz lemon juice.
How do you have a full bottle of Yellow Chartreuse???
Best/most popular long drinks?
The Porn Star being the #1 is a bit surprising, but then again I'm across the pond in the states. I'd hope that it's popularity becomes a gateway for other Passion Fruit cocktails. Yeah, I couldn’t remember what it was off the top of my head so I said some random words 😂
That is a full stir for the Vieux Carré, but no smile?
Much prefer A Neptunes Wrath over a Last Word
French 75 was robbed. And I like your nice smile when you shake the cocktails. Friendly bartender trick?
Ranked by views was probably not the best way - I’ve got a top gin cocktails video coming soon and they’ll be ranked by viewers! The shake and smile is kind of a signature of my channel :-)
Being on dating apps in the uk, all you ever see in womens photos is espresso martini's and pornstar martini's, its crazy how popular they are
this is just a video of the average workday🤣🤣
Cognac makes an amazing Espresso Martini instead of vodka
I’m amazed the mojito doesn’t make the top 20 and yet some fairly (to my mind) obscure ones do.
Due to the ranking method (website page views). Next vid like this (gin cocktails) will be based on votes.
what does the saline do to the cocktail?
Subdues bitterness and enhances sweet / fruity flavours… it makes a drink pop!
IMHO the Old Fashion should definitely be in the top 5 of not #1
I agree.
8:30 is that a yellow lime? :))
Shhhh.. 😉
Cuba Libre with Meyers.
Benedictine is made by Benedictine monks! Close though!
Great vid, Steve. So much for the stereotype of Brits drinking G&Ts, i guess...
They definitely love their G&Ts... I just don't think they're looking for a recipe for one.
Look at you, talking fancy, saline and all
Oh I need a high ABV 💯 rye!!
I still like oldschool drinks like white lady.

Benedictine is not actually made by monks at all. That story was just a marketing gimmick from the man who invented it in the nineteenth century.
Benedictine order monks hence the name.
As a bartender in the UK, and as someone who made maybe 15 p0rnst@r martinis just today, very much not surprised by it being number one lol
negroni, daiquri, old fashioned top 3
Brits don't drink mojitos? Or is December too cold for it for them?

lol, thanks Nick. This was part two of the top 20 cocktails based on views from Difford’s Guide.
Then prOnstar martini sounds awful, the fact that you need a palate cleanser on the side says it all.
Hahaha the UK loves it tho!
@StevetheBartender_ I have one british friend and he described it as, quote: "sickly" 😆
Anyway love your videos Steve! Been watching since 2018!
yikes, looks like brits know about as much about cocktails as they do baking.
