My favourite fern 🐊 the only one that does good for me here in Aus, survivor fern and such an interesting foliage. Thanks for the video I don’t see much about them on UA-cam, great 👍
My sons GF gave me one for Mothers Day and I've Bern trying to find out what it was! Same pot but the fern itself is in another well draining nursery pot. Thanks for the info.
I was wondering how this guy would do in a terracotta pot? I know they're average drinkers and they don't like to stay in saturated soils. Terracotta would help with that, but they are ferns, so I know they love some moisture, and love their humidity. Terracotta pots are mostly what I have. Thanks for reaching out! Plant Prudently!
HAAAA that’s hilarious. I had been wanting one for ages and no where had one and I went to meijers for crafting supplies and found the same fern and pot you got. I swear the more unexpected the more exciting.
It's my favorite fern. I found mine at Lowes, planted in a large pot with 2 other plants but I think I should separate all of them? Thank you for the tips. I hope I am successful with my second attempt. I cant find a happy place for them in my house though. She's not looking too good, lol . BTW, I saw them growing in the wild ,in Central America. It was super cool :)
I've wanted one for the last three years. It wasn't until this year that I found one in Kentucky. Trust me, I looked too. Oh well, I'm glad I could find a good score like that during 2020!! Thanks for watching!
This plant is very particular i sometimes find leaves that have died and I can just touch them and they come up I am a plant mom but this one she is a difficult child
Same😢 my daughter gifted me one for mother’s day and this is the firt plat i have no idea what im doing wrong. Leaves just fall off when i touch them. I tried 2 diff spots and no luck yet in keep the leaves from falling.
This is the one plant I can’t keep alive. I just killed my third and have no idea why. Could it be the humidity in Michigan is only 30% all winter? It thrives all summer then dries up and dies in the winter. I’ve been trying for a few years now with no success.
I feel your pain. I struggle with croton and ivy. I don't know why but I find them both exceptionally hard to keep alive and healthy. Yes, I would agree, low humidity levels like that can cause your fern to start to decline. That coupled with the fairly cold winters that you guys get can cause them to die. These guys don't like temps below 55 degrees F. and won't survive a frost. Temps around 55 can cause them to begin to stop growing and once they get below 50 they can die. They also don't typically like to be fed a lot. With mine, I use a water-soluble fertilizer that's been pretty heavily diluted and only feed him maybe once every other month or so. With water, they do love it but they do NOT like to sit in it. Once the top inch of the media dries I'll water him pretty profusely. I'll keep mine right next to the humidifier too, and he loves that. Dont forget they are from the tropics! They like it warm and humid with heavier indirect light.
Thanks much some cool insights. I’ve had one for nearly a year and it hasn’t grown at all until about a month ago after I added a led above it’s shelf and it’s really taken off. I find myself watering it at least once a week, I’m wondering if my usual epiphyte mix needs some more peat or spagmoss, it’s pretty chunky?
Funny that you should say that. I had to move mine under the grow lights too. I tried the east-facing window for a little bit but here in KY, he just wasn't having it. Now I've spotted new growth! Yes, I'm watering every 6 to 8 days and I've scooted him closer to the humidifier too, lol. He's pretty happy! I've got a decent amount of spag moss in mine.
I bought one from a big box store and it has root rot but im having so much trouble just figuring out how to propogate my crocodile fern properly. I’ve been trying to figure out simply which soil i can buy for it from the store as i really don’t know anything about making my own and don’t have the space to do it anyway
Ok, so crocodile ferns grow in a rosette fashion and thus tend to make the perfect location in the center for water to pool. If left unchecked it will cause crown rot and kill your plant. Depending on how bad it is I can usually fix root rot, unfortunately, there is no known cure that I'm familiar with to fix crown rot. If it's just starting you can sit it closer to a fan to keep the center dry. Be careful with a fan as they can dry your plant out fast. As a tropical fern, they need decent amounts of humidity. In the future anytime you water, water around the outside of the plant, and if you use a humidifier always turn your fan on low to keep fresh air moving around the plant to keep rot and disease, etc. away from your plants. If water gets down in the crown in the future gently stick paper towels down in there to wick it all away.
I just got one at Lowes on the clearance rack. I was very excited. Now just needs TLC

Yes, I love this one and the rabbit's foot fern! They're both so cool and unique. Thanks for checking out my channel, I hope you enjoy it! 🌺
Just got a huge one from Meijer! Probably twice the size of yours. I wasn’t looking for this plant but immediately upon seeing it I was in love!

Your very detailed! Thank you so much!! This is exactly the type of videos I love! Keep up the great work bud!
One of the slowest growing ferns I have found, which is a bummer because the leaves are so epic ♥️🪴♥️
I was on the search and found him.. Keep him in terracotta in the rainforest kitchen, beautiful, interesting plant 🐊

I just found one in the exact same planter at Target today. 🙌🏻 So much cheaper than at Planterina. 😉 Thanks for the info.

Trying to revive mine

Anyone else can't stop looking at the cactus lol 😆
I have one and love it. Such a cool plant! Thanks for the advice. :)

I agree. I've gone through four of them in just a few months.

Crocodile and BirdsNest Ferns. Good Info, Thanks!

What water is good for that plant? Is distilled water very good for it?

I’m also confused abour how to make sure my pot has proper drainage. Ahhh so many questions :/
I ordered one on Etsy, most of the leaves came broken and browned. Any way to save it?
Same with mine. The parts of the leaves keep going brown and dying.
So good to be in the bathroom?
I want one so bad ..
I found some at Walmart today if you're still looking.
My sister gave me crocodile fern last week and now the few leaves are getting black what shall I do?
