The best song system that played in Jamaica and Waterhouse, is King Tubbys. His sound was crowned by the people, not liked someone just called Jammys King. I remembered when Jammys a played a little house sound, living near to St,Patrick Primary school in those. I been living in Waterhouse from in 1960s, and only King Tubbys was running the place as the leading sound. You useto have one and two little house sound system in Waterhouse in those days, I know a little soul set.Useto named Stylistic on Huston Ave,at that Jammys was around. King Tubbys who started to make dubplates,Jammy learned trade by King Tubbys. I know that Jammys and King Tubbys did have a big problem after a while, King Tubbys was the best in .I was telling my cousins that I know when Jammys living on Drumalie Ave,before she checked.Duke Reid was long before Jamaica, Duke Hamilton, there was a lot of sound long before Jammys. Jammys mentioned that since 1985 there is been no change to the music. I want to add that if you listen carefully to the music, in the early 2000 don carleone, stephen magregor and vybz kartel change the sound that was there before. Hence why we have every artiste now sounding like kartel. I personally think there should be a change in the name of the genre after the 2000 because of the drastic change in the beat and also the content more so the pushing of the boundry to no boundries. Call the genre vybz kartel
There is a lot of history that is not being told. For example, the first official dub plate was made by Coxsone Downbeat in 1958 (Owen Grey - On The Beach). Unofficially, dancehall was the first (credit to the Big 3 - Duke Reid The Trojan, King Edwards The Giant & Coxsone Downbeat). Competition amongst the big 3 led to many innovations in Jamaica's music, including the formation of Reggae. Not much credit is given to the effort of early sound system operators and their pioneering effort (1940s - 60s). The legacy of people like Hedley Jones (Jamaica's first amp builder, built Studio 1, JFM President), Lloyd Daley (electrical engineer and Matador Sound System), Fred Stanford (studio engineer and US migrant - brought Jamaican Sound System culture to Brooklyn in 1962). Credit must be given, where credit is due.
Legend in the business these interviewers should have a little bit more knowledge of certain information about king hammy. Anyway give thanks for this interview.
Good reasoning wid chin dem pan sound chat radio bout the dancehall genre. Here is the answer to ur question. If u dj on a reggae beat is it considered dancehall? YES. because dancehall consist of 2 primary elements. The beat and the dialect. So using ur example of celine dion song. If u dj on that beat it wud be dancehall. However not purely because the beat pattern is not a dancehall beat. Like justin beiber and drake, when they sing or rap on the dancehall beat pattern, it is dancehall. But they cannot master the dialect to steal the whole thing. U will not get pure dancehall without those two elements. Wen u djed on the kendrick song, u add the dialect to a hip hop beat. But it was still considered a dancehall verse. What is dancehall?Dancehall is a genre with the “budum bap bum” beat pattern combined with the jamaican dialect as the main elements. Add some over the edge and gritty lyrics. Dapper style dressingthe and you will have the genre in its purest form. One Love.

You are 100% correct in 1985 jammys vs youthman promotion vs Scorpio vs arrows. That's the 1st time in Jamaica 4 sounds came together in cinema 2 that was Leng dance. Promotion won that dance everybody knew that
Pinchers did have a song called Blood Stain on the far east riddim that contain a sample of Buju's murderer but that track may be done by Bobby Digital.
Wayne smith and his friend heard it on the casio, they lost it then got one of the brothers to find it when they did they sent it to King Jammys then they built the riddim and Wayne Smith Created the song Under me sleng teng.
What song came first ? Under Me Sleng Teng by Wayne Smith voiced @ Jammys or Under Me Fat Ting by Anthony Red Rose voiced @ King Tubbys ? Both studios in Waterhouse & Both riddims were played by Noel Davey. Sleng Teng is a preset in the Casio MT40 Keyboard. All Noel Davey had to do play the chords over the preset. Yes Wayne Smith helped Noel to FIND back the preset & suggested they both go down to Jammys with it & Jammys simply SLOWED down the tempo which is the knob above the fill in button & added synth percussion. The drum roll is created when you press the Synchro/fill on the keyboard. I have that same Casio keyboard here in my room right now. Everything was recorded down to quarter inch at Jammys because he never had a 2 inch set up there. More props & credit should've been given to Noel Davey as NONE was given to him on the Greensleeves label who pressed & distributed THAT record featuring Dance Gate by Micheal Buckley on the flip side.
