- Not wanting to just follow what everyone else does and wanting my drills and impact driver readily at hand, I build a charging station and drill storage into my workbench where it's really needed.

" I call it the Hole" Brilliant! lol yet another quality Video Stuart.
I never cease to be amazed by the sheer quality of these videos. I can't imagine where you hide the scriptwriters, lighting crew and production team 😉
I know - quite a big team I have - especially hair and make up.
I love your way of thinking. No fancy complex solutions, but simple and effective. Nicely done!
Thank you
Brilliant addition to a workbench you have already built. This is what we watch these videos for
Your comment about charging stations on a wall "like a museum piece" really caught me! You are easily the most relatable and no non-sense DIY guy on YT. Love it! First comment, 30th or 40th or 50th video of yours I've watched.
Thank you very much - much appreciated
The most relevant and authentic UK DIY channel. Great stuff.
Oh my Stuart, that is awesome…..what a great way to store your drills and chargers, love that….take care and please be safe….much love from South Africa
Thanks Val
I really like the simple idea of using holes in the bottom. It might be a bit of an issue if you have kids or pets who could hurt themselves on a sharp bit. In those situations you could have a pipe extend down past the drawer bottom so that the bits are enclosed. To stop dust build-up in the drawer you could put a mesh over the holes, similar to what you can use over PC fans. Though with the dip in the front, it won't matter much. I think I would have used a full size front with recessed ring pull handles. It keeps it flush and also stops debris and dust coming in that way.
I never really thought about the strength of plywood, but that makes total sense. :)
By far the best solution for storage of drills i have seen, simple and effective👍
Great project Stuart, I will definitely be copying this as I have a similar conundrum with my drills and chargers. The drawer design is very clever and am happy my wife won't be disappointed with the thought of my saggy bottom.
Nice one Stephen
Having organised space to manage, charge & store power tools is great . My large cordless Tool case was overwhelmed long ago. Leaving several mains & cordless tools without a dedicated home. Of all the items you have, a fixed router table is top of my list to build ASAP. Any disorganised work space soon becomes a dumping area and productive work stops.
Yet another great informative video, your knowledge of building works seems top notch, even down to the strength of plywood, being a rank amateur myself the strength of plywood grain, never entered my head. Your definitely one of the top go to guys on UA-cam.
Thank you
Brilliant, I will be implementing this myself. Already have the draw just didn't see what was staring me in the face! Great solution. I don't want everything hanging off the wall either! Thanks!
Great video as usual Stuart. A brilliant yet (relatively) simple and effective solution to your charging needs. I like your thinking!
Thanks
Great video thanks Stuart. Great idea, I am going make the same for my garage. Love your Revolutionary hole idea.
7:57 - The sheets are glued to each other, so any load gets transferred between them, and I doubt a 1-sheet difference will have much effect (maybe if it's 3-sheet ply, or if the inner sheets have a lot of voids, but in decent 7-sheet ply I suspect the difference will be completely negligible). Might be interesting to do a video actually testing that.
You have a great way of story telling, I wouldn't mind watching a video about just you. Your life, history, where you picked up all these skills etc.
That's something I'll watch and listen to.
Thanks Saj. I'll have to think about that one
@@ProperDIY Otherwise keep you the great vids, I don't have the room or equipment to build it all, but still enjoy watching the vids.
I was expecting an integrated fan to cool the chargers! Great work as usual.
Hi Stuart I've just found your channel in the last 2 weeks and I'm working my way through the content. I really liked your garage conversion series, and today's video was great. Many thanks for sharing.
Thank you - where have you been - we've been waiting for you to join us!
@@ProperDIY sifting through all the American stuff that shows you how to do it wrong.
Great project Stuart. Most splendid, correct.
Neat. Thoroughly designed. Well built. Gives the rest of us another option to tailor to our own workshop circumstance.
Great idea and video. Thanks Stuart.
That’s really clever Stuart. I have the typical ‘UA-cam inspired charging station’ hung on the wall and it’s an absolute magnet for dust. I think I need one of these!
Nice job Stuart. Liking the hole supports for the drills.
Try and get into the habit of lowering the bandsaw blade guide as close to the workpiece as possible. You’ll get a more accurate cut and there’s less likelihood of damaging the blade. 👍
that looks really good, some great ideas to take away here!
Thanks
Thanks for your videos, as always. I’ve just done the same but using an old IKEA Malm chest of drawers that I have in the garage. Worked out really well - you can pick them up cheap second hand and take some abuse!
As always, I thoroughly enjoyed this video. You never cut corners, every job you do is top notch and you never disappoint. Keep the videos coming please Stuart 👍
Thank you. Will do
I think you’ll find that Stuart has cut hundreds of corners, probably on his bandsaw … oh, I see what you did there ..😜
@@TWOKDOK1 😂🤣👍
Great idea, well executed as usual, suppose the trick is to make sure you get out what you need in case you have something clamped on the bench edge.
You are a total generous!!!!!
Excellent video, thank you, great design.
This video is TOP DRAWER! As usual!!! 🔨
I see what you did there
Really good video again. I really like simple but effective design. Great job! 👍
Love your videos! While I never thought of putting a drawer in the (to be built in the likely farther than I like future) bench, this really made me think maybe I should.
Nicely done!
Another great video and brilliant idea.
Great job and an enjoyable watch 👍🏼
Nice build, Stuart! 👍
Thanks
Everyone complimenting the simplicity/effectiveness. While I agree, i will compliment your music choice. Nice tunes.
Thank you. I mostly get grief from the audience about the music so nice to hear you enjoy it
I like it too. Music adds emotion and makes you feel happy when watching the video 🙂
Can you please do a video about how you actually installed your drawer with the sliders etc. It something I'm really nervous about attempting (for some reason) and you make everything look so easy. It might just put my mind at rest and make me actually try it! Great vid as always!
Hi Stuart, thanks for this video, a great solution, nice build. It has given me ideas.
Thanks
Ah I love this idea - I've been meaning to do a similar thing for a while for all the things that need charging around the house. I think I've probably spent about a quarter of my life looking for chargers for things 😂
Exactly- all over the place!
11:19 need to patent that quick!
Good afternoon Stuart. Hope all is well.
I like the drill storage solution (hole), however, is there a chance that you might catch the back of your hand on the drill bit when you access your tool boxes?
Looking at the tear out on the edge of the ply that blade is definitely struggling, probably be cheaper to get a brand new one off amazon than sharpening, sharpening also gradually makes the blade narrower
I'll have to do one or the other for sure
If the drawer is deep enough, there should be a false buttom for the excess cabels, or just a small cover, to keep the dust from the outlets 🙂
Thank goodness you prevented a saggy bottom
Great video as always 👍
Thanks
Love this one stuart. A way of hiding my drills from her indoors 🤣
Top job Stuart!
Thanks
Epic a hole in the bottom of the draw :) :)
Hello Stuart, just wondering if you know about router table starter pins? I realise that small roundover bits don't pose a very big risk, but I just thought it was worth mentioning if you ever use large bits without a fence, and weren't aware of starter pins.
I do and I used them on the last video I used the router on recently
Very smart and very c!ever thank you for sharing
Thanks
Always simple n easy
👍
I would have mounted the chargers to the drawer. I really can't stand chargers that move around. Thanks for vid.
thanks for another entertaining video 👍👍👍
Clever solution!
If I may ask: connecting the power strip to the NVR switch - doesn't that mean the chargers only charge when you flip the NVR switch on? Or is the NVR switched on constantly and only turns off when you hit the switch?
soon as you said you didnt want to hurt your delicate fingers i thought of Kenny Everetts Reg Prescott 😁🤣
Most likely your miter saw blade needs to be cleaned rather than sharpened. Those carbide teeth wouldn't be dulled by cutting some plastic, if you've cut a lot of softwood (especially pine) as well as the epoxy/plastic, you'll end up with buildup. Considering how expensive everything is these days, give it a try before you take it to be sharpened.
Use thinners. That's what I was taught to use as an apprentice. It's cheap as well
Nice build !!
Thanks
Top job, Stuart and well thought out. Any particular reason why you didn't mount the 6 gang on the back of the drawer as opposed to the base?
Not really other than it was around 6pm at that point and I just wanted to get the video finished
Ingenious!
I wish I could get hardwood ply this colour and quality. All I can get is dark red colour and it splinters like crazy when cutting.
Nice
Hey Stuart
Great video.
Been watching your content for a while now and thoroughly enjoy it. I'm wondering where you got your screwdriver bit, the one that seems to hold them in place? Perhaps a "Tools I use" section.
Thanks
Hi Stuart, what size pins do you use for fixing the ply before screws, would love a short video on small and large nail guns as well as pin drivers
Hi! I think I used 25mm nails - worked ok
Beautiful!
Thanks
I too have 'delicate fingers'!
No one wants a saggy bottom 🤣 Quality work as ever, Stuart.
Thanks
ANOTHER GREAT JOB--COULD I ASK YOU A QUESTION DO YOU NOT FIND YOUR BATTERYS LAST LONGER IF YOU TAKE THEM OF AT NIGHT WHEN FINNISHED OR NOT ?
Good work boy
Thanks
Good sir, would it have been safer to rout the round overs with a push stick and the piece running along a fence adjusted for this?
Hi, nice video. What size of screw are you using to screw the ply together? Thanks
Try some trend blade cleaner first
👏 Brilliant.
Thanks
I want to ‘upgrade’ my toolkit with a cordless drill. I’m curious how long the battery will hold a charge between usage. Days? Weeks? Months?
I’m just a home DIYer so I need a drill maybe once every few weeks and it would be annoying to need the drill now only to find the battery drained.
Thanks for sharing.
I really enjoy your videos. Regards.
I've never had any issue with batteries draining themselves. I think it just depends which brand you go with. Presumably the more expensive tools are going to have better batteries, which will hold a charge for much longer.
@@ACAIDC Thanks for sharing. I bought a DeWalt 20V and have been using it on and off around the house for a few months now. Only had to charge it once and didn’t notice any battery drain.
Do a check to be sure you are not over loading by daisy chaining multiple sockets
What size screws do you use for 12mm ply?
Having your cables wound up could cause them heat up.
Is it acceptable to charge batteries with the cable coiled or is that really only for 3 phase cables ?
I'd say if the "action" is _there,_ then you don't really need _cordless_ tools. ;-)
You said you would recommend 12mm ply, why does the sticker on the ply say "18mm"
I think you need to re watch it and listen to what I say.
Before you sharpen the blade Stewart or buy a new one, clean the saw blade with meths to remove the glue - you may not need a new blade!
Your blade might not even need a sharpen, just a good clean with a wire brush
The epoxy resin I cut through for the video was producing sparks from the blade so I think it needs sharpening
I see you're a Dewalt fan,, are they the best, or are Makita better,?? 🤔
Think thats a mayo bottle 🙂 for the glue
Yep
How do you keep a straight face to camera with all your corny "sid james" innuendos...??? [insert his trademark cackle]
Does your misses ever just look at you & roll her eyes? 🤣
'Not having all my drills on display like a museum.' hmm who could you be talking about? 🤷♂🤐
I do enjoy watching your videos, but I'm afraid to say, as a middle aged man myself, it's too late !!! no amount of Ply is going to stop a saggy bottom.
I know the feeling
Saggy bottom 🤣
