- "Gilles Villeneuve knew only one way to drive, and that was flat out." We look back at the man for whom the Montreal circuit is named with the help of his son, 11-time Grand Prix winner Jacques.

And his car was NOT one of the better cars on the F1 scene at the time. Gilles was more important than the car said Rene Arnoux. So true. He was the best.
You can see pure good in his eyes!!!! Respect to the talent and greatness of this man!
I wish the video spread more about the lore and love about his style that the more hardcore, older F1 fans seem to have for him. His elastic control and his spectacular style.
I mean old-school guys always mentioned he had the same talent and natural ability up there with Jim Clark and Fangio at the time he was getting big, but it was just his race craft he threw out in order to just go flat out all the time (preventing him from winning any large number of championships).
I hear stories of guys that went to live races with him that explained that they'd never witnessed anyone else that could manhandle cars the way he did, save maybe Ronnie Peterson.
I think Keke Rosberg, Nico's pappy, mentioned how much he hated how people compared Senna when his talent was reaching critical mass with fans in the late 80s to early 90s. I think Keke mentioned Gilles was able to outpace and overtake his opponents as Senna did, but mote in a fair manner in which he never relied on pushing over his opponents, making competitors more aware and respectful of gilles' natural talent.
ThyChrysanthemum I think the irony with Gilles is that when the car needed to be babied he was one of the best at it. It may not have happened much but if he had a winning car he could take care of it. It was the times he needed to overcome the car (most of the time) where he was spectacular.
That's why I love Gilles, he could drive a car like maniac but unlike Senna he wouldn't need to shove others off track to win, and if there was some contact made you can bet both drivers were ok with it(think of 1979 French GP)
@@russotusso1695 , I think the perfect example of that would be with Rene Arnoux in France. Clearly arnoux loved Gilles ( and still does) even though some people would’ve hated his technique at Dijon so and tactics there I mean they were absolute gladiators out there and they respected each other.
The best canadian drivers of F1 Gilles Villeneuve! Salut Gilles
Well said Jacques, you did good also, be proud...
Might say things not many like but I like him.
One of the greatest drivers this world has ever seen.
Immortal....
Thank you Peter for this presentation, I really enjoy your enthousiasm about F1. Rip Gilles, I was not even born in 82 when he died, but being from Québec myself, all I can really say is : Salut Gilles !
Salut Gilles
Gilles Villeneuve, only the idol of Ayrton Senna.

What a legend
I agree with Jacques, number 12 is the number we should associate with Gilles...but then why does Jacques frequently race with number 27? The Indy 500 win with number 27 was nice, though.
Because that’s the last number his father raced with?
The real LEGEND!!!!
To me he was the most shoking of all he was formidable!!!!!!!
No one else is going to say it? really? Ok, I'll be that guy... the hell is with Jacques' hair!?
Anthony Stuart He didn't get the upgraded wing with the DRS working properly.
Anthony Stuart He's spending a lot of time with Al Pacino setting up a winery business.
Well curly but he is just alreadt balding. :D
Anthony Stuart lol

ENOUGH OF SENNA ENOUGH
SENNA could have cried near THE LEGEND THE GRANDE VILLENEUVE
My favorite number is 27 and Gilles had in his car this number and the Ferrari.

Gilles inspired Senna
Hey FIA Kyalami has been resurfaced and we are ready to host an f1 grand prix
Just saying
It’s getting ever closer 5 years later
it's all been writen on the wall that Villeneuve will be the world champion. the prophecy was right but its not Gilles it's Jacques driving a Williams not a Ferrari
Every Great Canadian always die. WTF.
#RIPGillesVilleneuve 😢
Thinking of Greg Moore?
crusherbmx he was Villeuneuve of CART (despite his win is not showing his talent) and had been contracted by Penske for 2000 but he died at 1999 Marlboro 500 RIP
I remember it all too well....but actually Jacques did CART, too, so maybe Jacques was the
Villeneuve of CART....
AND with square wheels.
3:34 gilles villeneuve looks just like bruce jenner
He's look like Trulli
holy fuck Jacques has aged badly
2:40 I recommend no f1 driver goes skiing or else he will end up like Michael Schumacher
Fathar VS son
I came here for an awesome montage of the history of Gilles, not his son blabbering on about who he thought his father was.
