- A test and review of Kelt drone reeds. Made in Northern Ireland by Kelt Reeds (James Knox) and designed by Mark Faloon. They are not one of the typical brands that you hear about (e.g. Kinnaird, EZ drone, etc). In this video, I show how to change the pitch of the reeds, warming them up and tuning them, then a sound test with and without the chanter.

Very good drones sound..👌🏻
i understand the review part i’ve been looking for some on the selbie reeds and have not found any might need to look at another brand
I tried them but could not get them to strike in properly no matter what I did, so I can’t comment on how they sounded in my pipes. In others, they sounded rich and steady.
@@KyleBantaMusic what brand of pipes did you try them in?
@@timothyaldrich4926 I've been playing the same set of Robertson pipes since 1998.
So of all the drones you've used could you rank the different types, for sound quality and ease of set up ?
Ezeedrone reeds are best for quick setup and adjusting (the tuning screw makes the job the quickest), and they stay steady. Kinnaird, Kelt and Canning have the same adjustment and setup process and all of them are stable and produce good sound. I’ve tried Rocket reeds and while they were nice reeds, i wasn’t a fan of the rubber adjustment piece. I tried Selbie reeds but I couldn’t get them to strike in despite adjusting them.
@@KyleBantaMusic excellent, thanks
The only problem I have with Kelt is that they don't supply the o-rings.
Interesting, I wonder if o-rings for plumbing would work as a substitute? Kelt is also not the only reed brand that have o-rings for bridles. Perhaps ask them for some guidance on replacements?
Идеальный звук. Моя бас трость постоянно звучит высоко. Приходится закрывать и открывать дрон.
Try putting hemp on the reed so that it doesn’t sit in the reed seat so far. That will bring down the bass drone.
