    380# here, up and down. At the time the 2016 Rover here too. Wished I could afford a Greenspeed Magnum XL, but being a 20% disabled veteran fighting venous insufficiency the recumbent trike has helped LOTS. Friend helped me get a Bafang M625 and I installed that to my Rover.
    Had a Specialized Rockhopper from 1991 but when I broke my left shoulder I could not ride it anymore. Gave it to another co-worker. Bought a Rover on a credit card, and that has opened a whole new world for me. Have been an avid recumbent trike rider since.
    Surviving covid pneumonia my performance dropped significantly, and is where a friend helped me out with the Bafang M625.

      Glad you liked it! I learned the ReLive trick from Matthew Gallat of the JaYoe Nation. He's traveling around the world on a trike, and has the ReLive of his route at the end of each video.

    Inspirational! I haven’t tried bike packing yet. I did a 54 mile trip each way about 100 years ago on a two wheeled recumbent. By hoteling it I was able to travel super lite with bed clothes and fresh undies. Very freeing. I’m about 100 pounds overweight...again. Working on it... again. Keto and fasting also. I keep moving to places with no bike trails or even shoulders on the road. To make matters worse, I live in the mountains. Beautiful though. Nice walks.

    This was great! From a fellow "fat kid" (and Michigan Native), I love that you've done this! I just purchased a used Rover. I'm loving it, and looking into doing all sorts of things with it. I live in Florida now, and am hoping to do some nice trail rides like this here. Looking into Strava as I don't do Facebook...considering 24" wheels to get better speed and resistance (as I'm always in 8th gear at present)...looking to pick up a canopy too (so I don't bake)...I will view a bit more, but it sounds like I need to pick you and your wife's brains. 😉

    Thanks for the video. I am thinking about a used Rover. Do you still like yours and have you added any electric?

    • @bigjackoutdoors9730
      @bigjackoutdoors9730  Рік тому

      Never added electric to mine. I never felt that I needed it. Just keep riding and the distance will come on its own. I have moved to a HP Velotechnik Streetmachine 2-wheeled recumbent, now. I no longer need the Rover for the weight capacity.

      8 speed internal. Yes. Always got me up the hills fine. Just limited on top end speed. Gearing is an easy thing to adjust, too.

    What is the most comfortable trike you have tested?

    • @bigjackoutdoors9730
      @bigjackoutdoors9730  Рік тому +1

      I honestly hadn't tried any others. I was torn between the Rover and GreenSpeed Magnum. I went with the Rover due to price, local mechanic support, and it was made in Michigan.

  • @Wog68
    @Wog68 4 роки тому

    IMHO Greenspeed Magnum BW could be your right trike. It has more gears, tak 400 LB, wide seat, foldable, you can convert it to fat tire trike, upgrade to pinion or Rohloff internal gear system, 29 inch real wheel, or upgrade to electric to commute or take to world tour. Another is Ti-trike. Hase bike are delta trikes, you would not need trailer, higher, comfortable seat, easy to haul, you can hook up with multiple Hase bike to build a train and go with a family and friends.

    • @bigjackoutdoors9730
      @bigjackoutdoors9730  4 роки тому +1

      The Greenspeed Magnum series and Ti-Trikes are both 2-3 times the price of the Rover. Hase run even more expensive, and the base models have a 300lb max. Even the new TerraTrike Maverick is a better value. I did not desire a foldable trike as it adds a point of failure for the frame that I did not want. The Rover can take up to a 26-inch back wheel and 24 inch front if desired. Can support Rohloff as well as a front planetary crankset should more gears be desired.
      Trust that I did my research before settling on the Rover. For the price it's an excellent ride, carries more than enough cargo, before even getting to a trailer, which I have used a BOB Ibex with this one before.

    • @bigjackoutdoors9730
      @bigjackoutdoors9730  3 роки тому

      I have had great success in using a Bob Ibex single wheel trailer with the Rover. It mounts to both sides of the axle, instead of just one. Take a look at my MiMac Tour to see it in action.

    Thanks for posting! Thinking of buying one, how does it do on hills? TY

    • @bigjackoutdoors9730
      @bigjackoutdoors9730  5 років тому +1

      Hills you'll end up going low and slow. You don't have to worry about falling over, so as long as you can push and have traction, you can work your way up.

    did you try an adult tricycle and what are your thoughts ?

    • @bigjackoutdoors9730
      @bigjackoutdoors9730  3 роки тому

      In my research I had a good idea that an upright adult trike would not have the speed or endurance I was looking for. The year after I got this trike I did get an adult trike for the wife that was built for high weight, and we quickly returned it. It pretty much confirmed my suspicions that it was not what either of us wanted. They can be fine for slow plodding on neighborhood streets and sidewalks, but they aren't meant for long distance or significant speed.

  • @JeffreyHarrington
    @JeffreyHarrington 4 роки тому

    How do you feel about the speed? How far does the seat recline?

    • @bigjackoutdoors9730
      @bigjackoutdoors9730  3 роки тому +1

      The Rover has a more upright position to it than most recumbent trikes, but it can still manage to lean back pretty far. I've always liked it a bit more upright. Speed wise I managed to max out the stock gearing and spin out at 15-18mph, which is about as fast as I feel comfortable with stability as well. Though I have exceeded 30mph on downhills. :D

    How do I mount trailer my rover

    • @bigjackoutdoors9730
      @bigjackoutdoors9730  3 роки тому

      Generally it's the same as any other bike. You just have to take in to consideration the hub style and what connection methods you have. For my Rover I used a BOB IBEX trailer which I could get some BOB NUTZ to use on the Stermey Archer 8-speed hub. In most cases the left-mounted brackets of 2-wheeled trailers work just fine.

    Really good explanation of the advantages of trikes. Glad your Rover is working out well for you. I hate to be negative on UA-cam, so please don't take this the wrong way, but I found your flyover stuff pretty boring compared to your shots from the trail. That's fine if you're just making personal memories, but you're sharing this, and the flyovers are pretty bland.
