Most modern manufacturers tell you tires are good for 10 years as long as they are stored properly. RevZilla hit the track on 7 year old tires as a test and had no problems. 3-5 years is a wives tale… but if you have tires on your personal bike that are 5 years old you should just quit riding because you are obviously wasting your time and money keeping that bike registered
@@1700iDiGuy agree. I think this video is geared for inexperienced riders. When in doubt, change them out. Never ever go cheap on tires, brakes, or chain… very often people spend 1500$ on exhaust and then throw on the cheapest tire or chain they can find on Amazon
For my daily ride I have an 8 year old front tyre with good grip on its last stretch of the safety thread wear, I have a car and a last Gen YZF R6 where the tyres will definitely reach the 10 yr old marker but I won't sell it because of that 🙃
It's 2024 and I'm still running my tires from 2015. Age really doesn't matter unless you have weather cracking. I just bought a rear tire bc the grooves are totally gone. I'm 67 and been riding since the age of 12. I'm not made of money and I buy the cheaper brand of tires. Ride Dangerously!!!
You're wrong. Tires dry and harden with age. They may look fine, but the grip and handling is comprised especially when leaned over. You should be able to lean the bike and let go of the bars and the bike should hold it's lean angle and stay on line. A sign of old hard tires is the bike feels like it doesn't want to lean and won't hold the lean on its own. 5 years is the safest bet to replace tires
Where does that 5 year limit come from? There is no independent analysis of that, its just the manufacturers, some say 5 years, others 7, others 10. I have a Pirelli Dragon on my 1989 FZR 600 which is week 12 of 2004. The tyre is pefect. Not hard, no cracks, rides great! (Is is kept dry, away from sunlight, and at a stable temperature)
3year tire to replace? No. Today is not a really aging problem with tires. There is a video with 7yo tires drives like new in high lean angles. The rest ok.
I just bought a bike with 18years old tires with more than 60% rubber left and no cracks (heated garage). I don't want to take a chance, just ordered new set Bridgestone 😂
Shit my tires are 07, I ride them everyday. Check for damages and dry rot, if it looks good ride um. Dates are for sales, motorcycle tire companies know most people dont ride there motorcycles that often, so relying on milage exclusively is bad business.
So did I! I just got a 2005 Suzuki DR650 with 800 Miles on it. Visually the tires look ok, but feel like wood when I ride it, so went ahead and put new one on! :)
should you replace both tires or you can do just rear tire when front is tire tread is still a bit thick? I have soft compound tires now on my mt07 and its not old tires yet
This video is so accurate! Weavy tire almost killed me, i broke my femur bone though. I did not ride stupid or fast succeed to experience death wobble with 40mph on bad road surface. Better to change your tires sooner guys!! Don't use all the milage of that tire.. You're on death machine remember. Stay safe peace out :)
You don't have to replace if you get a puncture it depends on the severity & location but more often than not it can get successfully be plugged/repaired, 2) just go off the wear indicators don't over complicated it
I have 2 tires on my motor cycle the bike is a 2005 and the tires we’re only replaced once Lol there both replaced in 2008 witch is way more then 3-5 years old and there starting to crack badly

To be fair, depending on the bike the rider and the tyre compound tyres can last ages

@@abr1mil crazy man. I’ll go through 4 sets of tires easily in one summer season.
So tired of hearing tires age out at 5 years. Condition not age determine the life of the tire.

Every time a get screw or a nail
Ya rite
That’s like once a week!
My tires are more like a collection of tire plugs held together with tire
Haha nice!
I just rode 3000 miles with a plug, no issues
I put 15000 miles on a set of tires after plugging the rear tire that picked up a screw and never lost tire pressure.
Changing a good condition tire after 3-5 years is a waste of money. Tire wears is most important indicator

"More than 3-5 years old"... thats a huge margin. Is it 3 years 4 years or 5 years??
Wavy damage is from not watching air pressure.
Fix-wear it down with correct maintenance
Am I right?
I just learned so much in like 10 seconds 😂…Currently otw to the garage 👀
Sweet!

that date thing is way off, specially when we don’t know where the bike tire is coming from nor where the tire was stored prior to sell (or the bike).
Just changed my back tire this afternoon... what a lovely pain in the ass it was

Nice!
My bike I recently picked up had 12 year old tires. They were sketchy. They had poor traction and were weather cracked and about done.
Time to go!
My tires are 25 years old, they should be fine
should you replace both tires or you can do just rear tire when front is tire tread is still a bit thick? I have soft compound tires now on my mt07 and its not old tires yet
Ya, that's ok and common. A lot of times people go through two rear tires for one front tire.
or like in my case the belts are showing
Wavy tires are from poor suspension performance or the wheel being out of blanace
True
Replace at 3 to 5 years :-) :-) :-)

Could be several reasons, low pressure, bad suspension, tires unbalanced, etc.
Bad suspension setup or balancing issues. Dynabeads (for balancing) can help prevent this.
This quick clip cover almost everything I need ❤❤❤
Sweet! Glad it helped!
Do u still reply
Can ask why mine
Only wear only on specific length
There are tyre wear all over but this specific spot is very worn out
Did you lock up the rear tire? The front wears more on the left side because the roads are slanted to let rain water flow off to the right.
