In a Sociology lecture right now and the lecturer was talking about stuff he used to do when he was a kid. Said they used to watch "Love of Chair." He then proceeded to recite this episode almost verbatim. I'm glad there's a copy on UA-cam cause we all had no clue what he was talking about.
I watched every episode as a kid. I should not have, because it seriously messed with my little squishy brain. What was so damn difficult about standing up, walking to the door, turning the knob and walking the hell out??? Children's TV show writers back then were on ACID. (See H.R. Puffinstuff, The Banana Splits, or Sigmund and the Sea Monster, among others.) I also had a problem with Mr. Rogers and that damn trolley of his, who spoke only in bells. Mr. Rogers could understand the trolley perfectly, conversely, I had no idea what the hell that thing was saying. I had a major problem with that, and I suppose I must admit that 45 years later, I STILL DO!!! LOL
I enjoyed watching love of chair. All of these were so funny I watched them over and over again. Nothing like the good old days when t.v. was worth watching.
I had a book called Love of Chair where a giant bird picks up the boy while he’s sleeping and Crank keeps shouting “What about Naomi?” I watched Electric Company- but I need saw these slurs until now
I started watching The Electric Company in 1973. I was 3 years old, and I really picked up literacy from that, before I started school. I did not see "Love Of Chair" until I got the DVD set, so I get the impression that it was phased out. I know that it was found from testing with kids that they picked up the text better at the top of the screen than the bottom, so perhaps they decided not to keep Love of Chair because of the position of the text falling out of favor.
"The electric company presents love of chair & that burning-question what about Naomi? from the kaufman-astoria studios stage-g in millerville-city luzerne-county ioml".
This is super late, but it refers to Naomi Foner Gyllenhall, the mother of the Gyllenhall actors. She was an associate producer on the show. If you found this out the way I did, it's because Naomi's first husband was Eric Foner, a historian and professor who writes about Reconstruction, the South, and civil rights for minorities. While looking up information on HIM, I heard about this show and her role in it, and came to find a video because this show was a little before my time. lol So I came bearing an answer for you without knowing.
What season of _The Electric Company_ is this from? Because I watched it all the time as a wee tot and I'm pretty sure I never saw any of these. By the time I was watching it, though, it was already in reruns, for which I think they only ever aired episodes from the last season or two ('76-'77).

There was a vinyl album of The Electric Company, and the album had Love Of Chair. On the album, the question was “…find happiness as a stand out at a sit in?”
(From season 1, episode #12) Announcer: Will the pants hold up? Will the boy hold up? Will the show hold up? And... what about Naomi? For the answer to these and other questions... Bill Cosby: Did the bell ring? Announcer: ....tune in tomorrow for... Love Of Chair.
Finally I have a link to explain when I say, "and... what about Naomi?"
... We never did find out about Naomi, did we?
I can finally explain it to my kids!
Naomi gave Snake Fox Die.
(This isn't THAT Naomi, is it?)
That’s what brought me here too!
Yes! Nobody I know remembers this. When I say the line, I get the weirdest looks.

I misread that as "Scientology lecture," and I was like "What the HELL???"

I believe the announcer was Ken Roberts, who did among others roles, the announcer on the soap opera, "Love of Life"
Wow, usually the boy is just sitting. This one had some action!
This was one of my favorites from The Electric Company.
I had a book called Love of Chair where a giant bird picks up the boy while he’s sleeping and Crank keeps shouting “What about Naomi?”

"I hope he's wearing undershorts underneath those ripped-pants".
My introduction to Samuel Beckett at age 6.

From,"The boy is sitting,"to,"The pants are splitting."
Love of chair "the boy is sitting".
As a little kid I never got this and would yell at the screen what is wrong with this guy??????
I was media savvy enough to realise it was a spoof of boring soap operas.
The boy is sitting. The boy is wearing pants. The boy is man spreading.
This is from episode #12.
does anyone here know about when the narrator says "what about Naomi?" I heard a thing about it somewhere but I forgot

Oh, come on! I came here to enjoy an innocent slice of life from the past....and Bill Cosby?!
This was before everything hit the fan for him.
RIGHT??? >:[
@@thinkbolt We should ask Bill where Naomi is.
Ken Roberts, announcer.

These segments creeped me out as a kid. It was like the kid was trapped there forever like “No Exit”.
