So i have an issue that no one is talking about ! That rear driver side quarter needed sanding ! You eluded to the fact that they missed sanding it at the factory ! Are you saying that Ferrari sands every car that leaves the factory ? Or are we to believe that for some reason that panel has an extremely poor ‘oem’ paint job ?
They felt comfortable delivering a car in this condition to a customer that has 4 other Ferraris on the way. Imagine how they treat the other customers.
I'm gonna be objective but I don't believe that Ferrari painted this car . I think it was painted elsewhere . Perhaps someone Ferarri has a contract with . These cars are very expensive and I don't see these imperfections getting passed quality control inspections at the manufacturer of the vehicle .
This is making me feel completely comfortable with the idea of performing a rattle can paintjob on my driveway. I'm now entirely confident that I'd exceed Ferrari paint standards.
I used to work with a Ferrari dealership in Colorado just few years ago and this is not out of the ordinary. Ferrari’s thought process is that it’s on the dealership to finish up the detail, which usually means full body paint correction from all the quick rough sanding they do before it gets shipped out. The dealership that I worked for originally just wanted speed like Larry was saying but when we for a new detailer in who was young and passionate turned it around, and every brand new Ferrari that we got in usually had two to three days of paint correction then finish off with a ceramic coating. This is just with Ferrari though, the dealership also sold Bentley, Lotus, Karma and Rimac. And every single company’s cars came in like that (except rimac because while I was there no one bought one) they all just expected the dealership to finish the detail. But Ferrari definitely had the worst issues upon shipment.
So as a Ferrari dealership, you sold brand new Bentleys, Lotus', Karma and Rimac? I highly doubt that but send me a link to a dealership that does, as I'm not concerned about being wrong.
A few years ago I went on a factory tour of the Bentley factory in Crewe. The paintwork in the final inspection bay was flawless. I think Rolls Royce have the edge though.
I used to have a 2015 488 GTB in rosso scuderia, with a black roof (from factory). The black roof was 12'500 swiss francs (around 14'700$) when I got delivered the car, the battery was nuts the next day. So I called Ferrari and they just said, that batteries does not fall under warranty, because they say you have to keep the car on the battery tender when it's not in use. Completely crazy.. Also the car got delivered with a moldy carpet in the trunk. It got delivered on january, when it's pretty cold in Switzerland, so probably it was moldy, because of humid air, get in touch with cold air and condensed, resulting the mold. Ferraris answer was "Sometimes, this can happen, but will be cleaned for free by your dealer, you bought it from". Well I bought the car at Francorchamps, Belgium, which is around 600km away, from where I live. So I cleaned it by myself.. Another fault was, that on my specially ordered red seat belts was a 3cm big mesh, which came out of the belt. Ferrari's answer was "The function of the seat belt is not impaired by the protruding mesh and is therefore not covered by the warranty." Few weeks after this I went to a friend, who is a professional car detailer. I literally got shocked, when I saw the car under the special lights he got. The black roof had spray mist all over, and at some points you saw that there was a square formed sticker or something, because there was no spray mist in this area. At some point in the roof, you could even saw the rosso scuderia shimmering through!! So they paint the whole car at first with the primary color, and then they spray the black roof.. Ferrari didn't want to cooperate in repainting the roof, as they have a "strict quality control" at the factory in Italy and everything which is not perfect then, will be corrected immediately. BTW the whole car was covered in polishing residues. In every freaking spot! Last year I sold the car with around 9000km, but had to do various repair works on the car for 12'000 swiss francs (around 14'000$) for some leather faults, that came from factory, paint works at the side mirrors, as they're scratching the paint, when fold in/out, front cover gasket, and so on. I still have my 599 GTB since 2011, but will never buy another Ferrari again. I'm done with that crappy company!
WoW I can't even afford a Ferrari but I have never had that issue with the brand new Mitsubishi Lancer evolution I bought in 2003 . Or any other cars I had purchased. A touareg in 2005 . I also bought a used Mercedes. None had these issues .
The fact that any business is okay letting a product leave in this condition hurts, on top of that the fact that its Ferrari and this is a $500,000 car hurts even more. Makes you wonder what else we don't see that is treated this way when the car is being made. Huge respect for biting your tongue and remaining professional, I got the feeling you were holding back a little :). Amazing Job bring the quality up to what it should be for the customer and thanks as always for taking us along with this one! Editing and video quality are always on point also! - Paul
Your expectations regarding Ferrari paint nowhere CLOSE resembles how Ferrari regards their paint finish applications. Does 'paint' make the car go faster, or perform around a racetrack? NO? Then who cares. People who obsess about "paint finish" are NOT the people who actually drive their cars. I've experienced FAR MORE damage to my car's paint finish just driving down any busy US highway than this car is seeing right now....
They are italian lmao, kidding aside, seeing the current state of the car, make sense the bad decisions they make on the track regarding testing the car and strategy
@@MichaelJames-lz7ni for half a million dollars Ferrari needs better priorities lol, you should get it ALL. You'd think there'd be a little more pride taken in the workmanship of a supercar, whether the owner puts 10 miles or 100k on it is irrelevant
To your point of who is responsible for the paint quality, from my experience working at dealerships, the manufacturer is supposed to get the vehicle as perfect as they can. This is easier on automation lines than it is for handbuilt or semi-handbuilt cars, but that is why they are so expensive. If the manufacturer does not do a proper job, it is ultimately on the dealership to make the customer happy. I'm sure exotic vehicle dealerships don't care near as much about retention, though, because where else are you going to go? If the dealership does not do an adequate job, the customer gets to deal with it. I personally would work that into the contract so I can charge the dealership.
The owner really needs to talk to Ferrari about this so it doesn't happen again! I used to work in a company that made headrest rods (those chrome sticks that slide inside the seat). I specifically did QA and sorted away deffective ones (scratched chrome, chip marks, rust, insufficient welds etc...). One day, someone let a bad rod slip and it went on to be installed in a BMW. The owner's child spotted this defect and they complained to BMW. Thanks to a relatively robust id and parts code system in the company, they were able to find out who exactly made and quality checked the part. That specific QA employee was fined and it stood as a warning for everyone else in QA to take their job seriously. And that was NOT a 500k Ferrari, just some 'plebian' BMW!
@@nicolobonaventura5715 sadly, he does. Italian inattention to detail and quality issues are well known for those in the know. They've always gotten away with it because they've been known for making some achingly pretty cars, and fast ones, that have built a mystique around them. Ferrari in particular, has spent the better part of half a century building a mystique around the brand to the point where they don't care if customers are turned off because there will always be a line of people willing to put up with their bullshit just for a chance to be given a chance at owning a Ferrari.
@@D3Vlicious have you seen some other channels where the rebuild wrecked ferraris and lambos... the quality of the welds, the body panel mounting systems having huge tolerances to account for varying part sizes... shocking.
@@nicolobonaventura5715it’s not surprise that Italian super car makers are poor quality now. Lamborghinis and Ferraris are known for poor quality when they used to be known for high quality. Sad when a $25k Toyota Corolla has better paint quality than a half a million dollar Ferrari 296 GTB. Reason why I got rid of my first Ferrari (20+ years ago) and have ONLY owned Porsches since and have a new G87 as daily for my wife. Never had a single problem with the 911s I’ve owned, ever. I inspect them when they get to the dealer, if I see something I don’t like (I’m very attentive and picky) Porsche gets it fixed. Takes longer, but when I’m spending $200k+ for a 911 I want a $200k+ quality car. Fortunately never had anything major and only minuscule interior pieces. I’ll buy and daily a Porsche 911 Turbo S until the day I die. My current one has 145k miles and hasn’t skipped a single beat. Next is the new facelifted 911.
I’m sorry, but there is no way I would pay half a million dollars for a car and it looked like that when I went to pick it up. Maybe that’s just me. Great job Larry!!
The truth hurts, but it hurts more if you are Italian. It is complete bullshit for Ferrari to expect dealerships to do this. Depreciation rates are getting back to normal, and this snobbish attitude is already hurting Ferrari, the pre-approved lists will probably disappear as realistic depreciation sets in. This is disgusting and shows a level of hubris that only those in Maranello can try to explain away.
@@AMMO-NYC no worries Larry, we know you’re a good guy who’d give us a straight answer rather than kiss the proverbial ring and we love that about you!
I work in the corvette department of a Chevrolet dealership, and nearly every brand new c8 arrives in similar or worse condition. Seems most car companies have a serious lack of QC when it comes to paint.
Just remember what Enzo Ferrari once said: You buy a powertrain with 4 wheels, and I give you the body for free. Never seen a Ferrari with at least a decent paint job, so no reason to complain.
This was an extremely generous account of what was clearly an atrocious job from Ferrari (or less likely: the dealer). Just goes to show that Jay Leno was spot on with his "dominatrix" analogy when he described Ferrari's business philosophy. How you can charge 500K for a car and let it leave the factory like this is beyond me.

Very crazy and not what you would expect from a very expensive brand, but well done Larry for making it look superb and looking new! Keep up the great work and love the videos!
Worked on a SF90 with pigtails all over including buffer trails. I was definitely shook. It was my first Ferrari I had ever worked on. Was genuinely surprised how bad the paint was from the factory. Also had compound in every crack and crevice.
Damn ! Coming from a company that dictates what owners do with their own cars when they buy them this is insane. They sue people for painting their own cars colors they don't approve, but send something from their factory in that condition?!
You also have to buy other bullshit cars from the dealer to offset the grey market price. Then the parts are not available or crazy expensive. These things make 0 sense.
Hey Larry, love the channel! 'm retired now but after 30 plus years in the paint depts. of G.M. and Chrysler I can say for sure all of this is factory defects, and my best guess would be that this car was a factory repaint due to multiple first run defects. Hence the orange peel and multiple areas of excess compounds. Hope this helps and keep up the amazing work! Cheers from Canada.
Then you’re the perfect person to ask. Why is it that so many GM and Chrysler cars from the 80s, 90s and early-2000s have paint that would fade into oblivion to the point where it was peeling off the car? Never saw that happen with other makes.
The even sadder part is this is one of Ferrari’s triple layer paint jobs, so it’s either $17,800 or $35k in up charge (I think $35k with this particular color!)

I highly doubt this car left the factory like this , I believe unknowingly to the owner this car was painted by a third party shop to hide up an issue this car had.
@@bajanboyhood why doubt? Ferrari is not known for actually good quality. They make pretty cars, but their QC is fucking garbage, and cars spontaneously fall apart quite often.

A guy I know who owns a local body shop used to work on a dockside body shop that had to correct all the issues as the cars left the ships. The stuff he told me about was shocking but his skills are on point and why I've trusted him with all my cars.
I’m not gonna lie… this video was exciting to see because I’ve been detailing at an auto collision facility for over 2 years now and I’ve been dealing with cars that are exactly like this. (Not cool ferraris though, mainly Cadillacs and Chevys). All of this is a result from the painter sanding down entire panels, and then using a rotary to cut it out and never fully finishing. They’ll end up slinging compound everywhere, get it deep in every crack and crevice, and then it will sit there for days upon days until it finally gets to me, and then I have to refinish their panels, and cleanup all that compound. It’s been the biggest detailing nightmare and it’s just sad. It all ends up being on the dealership and the managers because they wanna (like you said) rush everything to reach month end numbers. Quality needs to come before quantity…
I think it’s outrageous that Ferrari has such quality issues with their manufacturing. If you’re paying that amount for a car, you’d think they would take pride in their work and make it perfect it for their customers on delivery.
I think that color is not factory Ferrari color and customer wanted that color so Ferrari send a car to a paint shop and didn't check it or didn't care. All in all this is not how you treat a customer. @@AMMO-NYC

I think often times paint becomes an afterthought when so much attention is spent on things like mechanicals and electronics. Mind you too, people buy Ferraris (and other exotic Italian cars) for the look and the sound, not so much the reliability and quality of paint when it comes off the boat.
@@stevencramsie9172 it is contradicting to say that people buy for the looks when the paint is a very crucial part of the looks especially with Ferraris who don't want you to customize their car in any form of way. True craftmansship when you can do a enchance detail on barnfind on one car and then just see and improve the imperfections that 99% of people would not even see because its "new car".
I’ve seen Porsche, Mercedes, Bentley, bmw, lambos, McLaren with damages similar to that when brand new. I worked for a Mercedes dealer and our detailing team was so good, other brands called them. This is not ferrari being lazy. This is a mistake and is not the norm. Granted it’s unacceptable but every big brands have done it once.
Back in 2008, I worked at Ford Jaguar Lincoln dealership and every jag came in with a thick covering coat layer to protect the paint during transport. We had to use a special cleaning agent to get rid of the layer and then that brought even more imperfections. Everytime we had a Jag to be delivered there was always some waxing/buffing happening and it would take forever then the seller gets mad at us for taking so much time cuz it's getting out of his commission. LOL. What a fun time we had.
I have a friend who bought a 2023 Ferrari, don't remember the model, but the paint is in a silver. Another friend and I were looking at it at different angles you can see darker area all over the car with in the paint not the clear coat. We decided to keep our mouths shut and let him figure it out on his own.
Respected detailer , knowledgeable and passionate about it . Thanks , learn a lot from your vids. I’m a detailer from Malaysia , hopefully one day I could have a chance to detail Ferrari .❤
When I was detailing professionally I would never give a quote for a new car detail on a Ferrari or Aston Martin without inspecting the vehicle in person first. Doesnt look like much has changed.
You are truly a master of your craft! That Imola Red e39 M5 caught my eye at the end of the video! That's my all-time favorite. This Ferrari really is an amazing car.
This is very normal for this type of vehicle, especially those this custom colour finishes. Most manufacturers of this type pay for their cars to be processed at vehicle prep centres to resolve these types of issues, which aren’t always visible at factory (some defects become evident after time, especially when the car has been through changes in climate during shipping). Also the mark you found on the bonnet is either a blister caused by poor base coat drying (heat from polish causing it to flash off and bubble), or a substrate hole in the panel (common on painted carbon fibre panels)
That's insane that it even left the factory like that I refurbish dental equipment for a living and if we even see one scratch on a part we repaint it for a chair that costs 9k not $500,000 they got some serious quality control issues Excited to see the rolls royce details are their things would be interesting to see what needs correcting on it
For a half a million dollars I would expect perfection. The finish of that paint job is atrocious and that's after Ferrari obviously had a go at trying to make it better by sanding and buffing the paint. Pretty pathetic that after polishing a turd, it's still a turd. If I were the owner I wouldn't have accept delivery of the vehicle. I would have held Ferrari accountable and made them fix it to my satisfaction.
The painters in Italy were probably pissed that the American client requested this obnoxious neon green instead of the usual rosso corsa, that's why they did a half-assed job on it 😅😅😅
Fantastic job detailing, educating, and being an overall car nut. 17:40 what’s up with the A pillar air bag trim? Looks like it’s falling out. Guess you can’t pay for quality.
Are the issues that bad because this is a Special Request paint color? That would be a process related explanation, I guess. It’s harder to work consistently off the regular paint line, than on it. On the other hand, if they charge you 30,000 extra for a special paint color, they d’better make it perfect!
Can’t believe a company like Ferrari can let a car leave the factory looking like that, especially with how the vehicle and paint is priced. The owner should send Ferrari the bill or the dealer because the PDI clearly did not catch that
I also had the honor of working on one of those. Car was delivered almost like you received it, only difference is that they washed it and put a quick detailer before giving it to the customer. The car was full black, i let you imagine the amount of swirls when it was under the sunlight. I don’t understand how it’s possible to deliver a car like that. It’s really a shame for Ferrari! For reference that dealership is about 300 miles away from the factory in Maranello. So no it’s not the boat or the transport’s fault.
I understand some imperfections that aren’t potentially disastrous, like in the GT3 comparison video you did a while back, that’s borderline acceptable in terms of delivery scuffs and manufacturing errors. This is a whole new level of unacceptable, especially from a marque as prestigious as Ferrari. I’m VERY surprised that quality control even let this car out in the condition it’s in. I always hesitate to place blame in any situation, but this is plain and simple negligence on the part of the paint department at Ferrari. Thank god there are guys like you Larry that can save these cars and bring them up to their full potential! I don’t know what we’d do without high level detailers.
Thx for watching! Yes, not sure what happened with this one. Other recent Ferrari’s I’ve detailed were significantly better. Driving experience is still fantastic as always.
@@AMMO-NYC Absolutely! The experience makes you forget about all of the imperfections the moment you put your foot down. That’s the magic of a Ferrari!

The worst part was that the dealer sent it to my ppf guy like that and they were gonna wrap over all the flaws!!! 🤬
My F150 had better paint from new than this Ferrari, seriously! 2016 and Ive been following Larry for awhile so when a bought my new truck I gave the paint a really good look over. Wasn't perfect but for a mass production pickup it was great 8/10 and way better than this Ferrari.
I'm imagining that your bill went straight to Ferrari, which they then paid happily and sent the owner off with a contrite "scusa mate" and a complimentary macchiato.
Absolutely insane to have that many imperfections on a half a million-dollar car. Not only that, but having old compound left all over the seems AND crazy orange peel on a resprayed panel. WTF is going on lol. Thank God it went to you! 🙌
Definitely a smart choice not to point fingers. There's many hands that the car goes through before it ever reaches the client and at the end of the day if the client cares about the car they are going to go through this process of detailing on their own dime. I mean you need to do the whole process anyway before PPF or ceramic coating.

I also bought a used Mercedes. None had these issues .
The fact that any business is okay letting a product leave in this condition hurts, on top of that the fact that its Ferrari and this is a $500,000 car hurts even more. You should see how dealership's PDI a new car. Nightmare

@@sys-administratoryou do not know what you are talking about.
@@nicolobonaventura5715 sadly, he does. Italian inattention to detail and quality issues are well known for those in the know. Ferrari in particular, has spent the better part of half a century building a mystique around the brand to the point where they don't care if customers are turned off because there will always be a line of people willing to put up with their bullshit just for a chance to be given a chance at owning a Ferrari.

I inspect them when they get to the dealer, if I see something I don’t like (I’m very attentive and picky) Porsche gets it fixed. Hey Larry, love the channel! Then you’re the perfect person to ask. Why is it that so many GM and Chrysler cars from the 80s, 90s and early-2000s have paint that would fade into oblivion to the point where it was peeling off the car? Never saw that happen with other makes.

Your dedication to perfection is a lost art.

You are truly a master of your craft! That Imola Red e39 M5 caught my eye at the end of the video! That's my all-time favorite. This Ferrari really is an amazing car.
you need to do a follow up video after ferrari sees this and offers their explanation of this and what they are willing to do for the customer
That's insane that it even left the factory like that I refurbish dental equipment for a living and if we even see one scratch on a part we repaint it for a chair that costs 9k not $500,000 they got some serious quality control issues
Excited to see the rolls royce details are their things would be interesting to see what needs correcting on it
For a half a million dollars I would expect perfection.
