I make them "private" when I don't want people to view them. Sometimes I do that when I want to use UA-cam features like image stabilisation before I do other editing.
I would have done that too but I wanted to be able to film doing a youtube search for them. Oh well. No huge harm done I guess. Once the video that talks about them is up I want them to be available individually anyway for anyone to use.
Looking forward to your main video. I find UA-cam searches seem to throw up all sorts of "random" stuff I am not looking for, even when I am trying to search my own channel.

I don't want it unlisted. I want it visible to everyone as well as searchable.
The problem is that even though I disabled subscriber notification when I uploaded it, youtube notified everyone anyway. I needed to upload it ahead of time because I wanted to film me searching for it and for that to work I needed it both public and to be in the system for a while (it turns out it that a search done only a few minutes after uploading it worked) as well as long enough ahead of time for me to edit it into the video. I've since added an annotation to the beginning telling people what's up and all will be clear by the end of today anyway when the video goes up.

This was uploaded so I could film it in youtube for an upcoming video. I guess disabling subscriber notification for a specific video doesn't work!?
Just choose "private" or "anyone with a specific link can access". You can change the status after the followup video is published, or just include a link in your followup video.
I wanted to be able to film doing a search for it on youtube so it had to be public. I figured I'd need to upload it well ahead of time for it to work its way into the system and be searchable. It turns out the search worked within minutes of it being uploaded. Oh well. It had to be public anyway eventually so that anyone who wants to can use it too.
