I think boat motors are mostly junk now. I have a canoe but neighbor has had several boats, engine has went out on every one. When I was a kid, my father and coworker water skied, had a course set up. They had a walk through with a 85 hp mercury with thunder bolt ignition.they skied almost every day after work, around 3.30 to dark, and all day most Saturdays. They ran that boat for years, only once did it not crank, someone went to Napa and got some fuel line, 30 minutes later running. It was a hell of a engine.
I had a 65hp mercury with that thunder bolt ignition and my only gripe was it was a nightmare to get to and work on them carburetors. When they messed up the second time I had that other Johnson by then I just took it off and went back to the Johnson. I can rebuild all 3 of them carburetors and be back running in 2 hours and on that mercury it takes that long to just get them off lol

@@Moorefarmalls in the old days we almost never worked on carbs, I think modern fuel kills them.
