Hi Webby, Thanks for very honest video and disclosing your cost of living in Thailand comfortably. I think most guys don’t realise things like you said exchange rates and inflation changes. High & Low seasons price changes especially as you said starting rent in the high season on a 12 month contact. Like you with no disrespect I could not live in one of them room for 5/6000 per month rooms especially in Pattaya. If it was in the country you probably get something half decent. I also think your right to keep the house just in case you never what’s going to happen in the future, you need an exit plan just in case. Good advice, Webby. Don't burn your bridges! It's worth mentioning that some people can't take the heat of April to June. I don't think that I could take it.
Trouble is that the financial future for all of us could be quite fickle. I owned a house in Florida some years ago. I kept it figuring the rent as an income source(2006~09). In retrospect that was a bad move. The real estate market in Florida peaked just after I left. It would have been better to have sold it and invested the money. Far better return and no hassles. It is impossible to get a guaranteed return that is more than the rate of inflation on any investment. But with a bit of risk it is possible to double~triple the rate of inflation(about 4% / year). That means 8~12% ROI. So with 200,000 units invested, a return of 16~24,000 units annually is possible. Add any retirement payments to that amount and a person should be able to live quite well in Thailand. Your numbers and ROI may vary. And if the whole damn thing worldwide goes down the drain it won't matter where you are but SE Asia will still be a more survivable area.

I see countless YT videos about the great restaurants there serving tasty Thai dishes. But restaurant food is not for me. Also what's the best way to find a condo for 4-6 weeks? Airbnb?

Interesting video Webby!! I've always understood how you fund your lifestyle from your live and the only thing that surprised me here was your UA-cam revenue and your right never to lose the ability to go back home especially the younger you retire. I always thought your budget was a little tight and I am not a party animal. The only true way to know how much you really need to live and retire in Thailand is to go there and live on that budget for a couple of months before commiting and see whether that's enough to enjoy yourself, but saying that anything better than the UK:
Webby thank you for your honesty and for being so upfront; its so refreshing! As someone who wants to move to Pattaya in the future I have always had these questions and I think you have pretty much covered everything..I'm saving this video for future reference! Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but expect interest that you earn on savings to half between now and the end of next year (December) as the Bank of England drop interest rates. But you can always invest it in stocks and shares ISA etc to make up the shortfall. Something to discuss with someone smarter than me 555
Cheers Webby, very informative about your situation and how you are managing to live in Pattaya .. Can’t wait to get out there in November next month. 😎🌴🤪🤪🤪. But my plan is to live in Thailand in our winter months and work in the UK during the summer. Until I get my works pension and sell my business in a few years time.
Could you buy another property from your redundancy ? It’s ok to spend rent money as over time the value of your house increases on average 4-5% per year . By spending your interest the value of your redundancy is diminishing each year due inflation- ie your money getting less and less whilst the money you put into property will eventually increase over time
When retired you need to be careful with your money and what you have no matter where you're living, but some countries like Thailand your money goes further
I have been living in Thailand for 12 years. I think you are nuts living Pattaya. I live an hour up the coast. 6000 Baht and you can rent a brand new three bedroom house beautifull beaches, plenty of expats and bars if you want that and if you really miss Pattaya that much it's only an hour away on a scooter.

100k baht covers a moderate lifestyle I think. (Single male) Rent and bills 25k ish. That leaves you 2600 baht daily. Can spend way more than that on a night out however spend just a few hundred in the days spent at home. Don't buy here unless you want to stay in the property for a long time if not forever. Reference his boiler talk: renting you don't get all the maintenance fees and service fees in condos. Pool, lift, amenities. My friends with wives and kids do ok with 150k baht (5k USD) Can you live on 30k baht? Sure yeah but you're just existing and not really living. Currency will swing back after the US elections if you want to trade it. An 11% move rn. Healthy The 4 > 5k GBP is a bit off i feel. Not sure what you spend your money on lol but minus bars and girls then 100k >150k is waaaay more than enough. Could eat at peaky blinders (mid range) every day on these numbers. The only true way to know how much you really need to live and retire in Thailand is to go there and live on that budget for a couple of months before commiting and see whether that's enough to enjoy yourself, but saying that anything better than the UK:
Great comment
Bit of a whimp about the rain. Use a plastic cover, umbrella like the thais. Flip flops do not get wet, the rain is warm.
I've seen enough rain in the welsh valleys lol
Webby thank you for your honesty and for being so upfront; its so refreshing! As someone who wants to move to Pattaya in the future I have always had these questions and I think you have pretty much covered everything..I'm saving this video for future reference!
Ps I rent my flat out here in Scotland and have moved back in with my parents to save money and guess what? My boiler also packed in (to be fair it was 20 years old) and I was the same as you mate, £2500 for a new one aaaarrrgghhh
So true!
Once again Webby is breaking records for the lowest amount of bullshit in a Pattaya YT vid. Never change mate, it's much appreciated.
Cheers mate
Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but expect interest that you earn on savings to half between now and the end of next year (December) as the Bank of England drop interest rates. But you can always invest it in stocks and shares ISA etc to make up the shortfall. Something to discuss with someone smarter than me 555
Fixed it for 3 years, problem sorted
@@welshboywebby good man
@@welshboywebby 5% ish gives you £77k
Cheers Webby, very informative about your situation and how you are managing to live in Pattaya .. Can’t wait to get out there in November next month. 😎🌴🤪🤪🤪. But my plan is to live in Thailand in our winter months and work in the UK during the summer. Until I get my works pension and sell my business in a few years time.
Can you explain it to the other comment's please lol they are dull as,a brush
@@welshboywebby ha ha ..they’re your subscribers 😳 .. but seriously can wait, hopefully we can meet up and blow the froth off a few 🍻
I relate and like that you are from the heart and very honest what you say.
Thank you
Could you buy another property from your redundancy ? It’s ok to spend rent money as over time the value of your house increases on average 4-5% per year . By spending your interest the value of your redundancy is diminishing each year due inflation- ie your money getting less and less whilst the money you put into property will eventually increase over time
Thank you for you comment mate but you have 100% not listened to the video, I said my redundancy has to last me until I'm 55 then I'm home and dry
2nd home owners will be top of the list for a tax grab.
Very informative podcast.
Thanks for listening
Very honest & informative WBW.....nicely done.
Thank you!
When retired you need to be careful with your money and what you have no matter where you're living, but some countries like Thailand your money goes further
It does
I have been living in Thailand for 12 years. I think you are nuts living Pattaya. I live an hour up the coast. 6000 Baht and you can rent a brand new three bedroom house beautifull beaches, plenty of expats and bars if you want that and if you really miss Pattaya that much it's only an hour away on a scooter.
Name the place please I'll go and look, I bet you 100% ill be bored of my tits
@@welshboywebby Tell you what Webby I know what you mean. I live near Koh Samet and love the area. I have recently been staying in a hotel close to you once a week in the BB hotel on the seafront not far from the 7/11 with the cafe upstairs. There is always a great buzz in the city, but I am not sure I would want to live there, no self control.
I won the lotto 3 years ago and loving my new life in Phuket , Pattaya and, Bangkok a condo in every city and no more money worries
😂😂😂😂

What about all the capital gains tax on youtube etc
What about it, how much do you think I get paid on youtube? Not much, that's for sure
@welshboywebby no I'm not trying to be funny, I'm just wondering because I'm thinking of doing something similar, though I haven't got a pension or redundancy.
So capital gains tax now is 18% after 3000 pounds and renting a house out is capital gains.
What about letting agents fees and whatnot
I'm a couple of years away from it...but if you're happy and you're still there I'll buy you a Chang if I bump into you!
I'll be there, don't you worry about that
So if gap in tenancy then more cash burn thru redundancy, pretty risky....
I've given up explaining watch the video again please then comment again
Great blog but can you explain your visa status
Omg watch my bloody videos, honest I'm not going to explain anymore
Cheers. Well we know the interest rates ish, so your payment reveals the rough contents of that bank 55
Yeah, but all my subscribers are dull as a brush, so I'm laughing 😂
Another good one buddy. Can’t believe two years have gone. 👍
I know
Straight talking and to the point as usual Webby. 👍🏻👏🏻
You do know though that they’ll still ask you on your lives how you can afford to live there 😂.
Looking forward to joining the Webby gang next year mate!
Read some of the comments I'm not going to ever talk about my income again if they are that thick to understand what I'm saying, I honestly can't be bothered, mate
@@welshboywebbysome people want to know the far end of a fart 💨 😂
You can’t explain it any more clearly mate.
Tell me about it
Cheers, Webby! Honest as usual, mate! 👍
Your welcome 🙏
Great video as you normally do it states pros +cons staying in Thailand, In uk if you rent your property you have electric and gas certificates each year if anything goes wrong with heating or electrics or roofing a fortune ,plus the new uk government no one knows the tax they want.
Cheers mate, electric is every 5 years well it is in Wales anyway
I'm still working out different scenarios, trying to find anything that's workable. I have GOT to get out of the US. After 56 years I just can't stand living in this insane asylum anymore. And I'll never be able to retire if I stay. It may not end up being Thailand, but I need to come up with some kind of plan. I will at the very least visit for a couple of weeks, hopefully sometime soon.
Thanks for sharing
I am working on some pasive income ideas so that i can move to thailand too.
Hope it works out for you
What about tax on your you tube earnings, house rental income, and savings interest?
What about it
Great vid steve😊
Cheers
I've got no problem. Everybody's budgets are different. I personally would love to do it. But health reasons curtail it. However I fo intend to do minimum of 2 months hopefully 3 over the Xmas crap. And at least a month end of the football season. Budget well depends on whst you want to do. Do you want to pissed every nite with a different lady. Get ready to die or go broke. Just have a good life and enjoy. So crack on webby.
I am and loving it mate
Great video. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Depends what u call a good life
Another top video Webby
Glad you enjoyed it
HI WEBB, JUST WAT TO ASK WHAT VISA DO HOLD ?
Watch my video on retirement visa lol 😆
Great vid & honesty. 👍 The YT money is good over a year and gives you a purpose/work too. I retired early, l lost a few good friends & workmates over a short period, the latter have a plaque in the work grounds "Died in service" & l looked at it with best friends name on & thought "fook that"! I too need my money to cover me till pensions but we are only here for a short time & no way am l working 1 more day. 😊
Well said my friend
Wish you would quote prices in baht as i have no understanding of the pound or quid. Good honesty though.
You have Google yes lol one pound is 44 baht
I do agree ill do both next time
@@welshboywebby Thanks. Yep could google but i’m just being lazy. I understand most main currencies, but for some reason i’ve never looked closely at the pound.
Your Smarter than the average bear, Webby, and a Great Guy in Person 👍
Cheers Mark
Steve appreciate your honesty pal.👍 hopefully see you in November 👍👍
Absolutely
Very honest.👍
Always
100k baht covers a moderate lifestyle I think. (Single male)
Rent and bills 25k ish.
My friends with wives and kids do ok with 150k baht (5k USD)
Can you live on 30k baht? Sure yeah but you're just existing and not really living.
Currency will swing back after the US elections if you want to trade it. An 11% move rn. Healthy
The 4 > 5k GBP is a bit off i feel. Not sure what you spend your money on lol but minus bars and girls then 100k >150k is waaaay more than enough.
Could eat at peaky blinders (mid range) every day on these numbers.
Where was that flight found? Assuming its UK to here and back. Thats a decent price realy
