We Hunt The Flame was one of my favorite reads of 2020. The world building was beautiful, the character development was superb and the plot was engaging too! I just got the second book in the mail and I did not realize it's almost 600 pages ahah 🤣 Also, the exquisite covers make them all the much better! ❤
Right now I’m still trying to finish Les Miserables, I’m also devoting this month to reading books by black authors and I’m reading two very famous books(The Color Purple and Beloved)by two African American women. I also want to read The Gilded Ones about a African girl. I will also read a black history book on African Americans.
The City of Brass is PERFECT for a buddy read. I started reading it and then was in agony until another friend read it too because I needed to talk about it with someone. Can't wait to hear your thoughts in your Feb wrap up ☺
I just finished the sequel to WE HUNT THE FLAME and let me tell you both books are an emotional Rollercoaster with a lot of fun banter and great character development in two books which is fascinating 😍🤩 and the ending of the first book will make you cry 😭😭😭 well deserved tears ofcourse
I'm a huge JLA fan and I LOVED From Blood and Ash, but she is definitely the type of author whose writing style isn't award-winning but has a way of sucking you in with her characters and stories. If you read it with the mindset of it being a fun, dramatic, but addicting ride rather than a mind-blowing piece of literature, you'll probably enjoy it more! I would give it a little more time :)
My TBR for February: Heartstopper vol.1,2 &3 (I've already finished reading), From Blood and Ash and A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire, The Unhoneymooners, Red, White & Royal Blue, One Day. And I am excited to read them all.
My February tbr - the cruel prince - The wicked king - The queen of nothing - How the king of Elfhame learned to hate stories - One of the good ones - The vanishing half - The song of Achilles - Lovely war I literally don’t have a life that’s the only reason why I can read so much.
From blood and ash gets way more dept when you get to the main plot twist closer to the end of the book- the world becomes much more interesting and the romance becomes so much more angsty. I love angst so I prefer the second book but both are some of my faves to read. If you don’t like reading a romance centered fantasy then I can see why you wouldn’t enjoy the series but I think the story is so interesting - there is so much mystery to it.
These are awesome! I’m currently reading Cinderella Is Dead, and for the rest of the month I want to read Pride, Slay, and Concrete Rose! I’m prioritizing books by Black authors with Black leads this month from different genres bc in the US we’re celebrating Black History Month!🖤

I promise you From Blood and Ash picks up and soooo much happens. Its was one of my fav books of 2020 and the sequel was a wild ride. I read both We Hunt the Flame and We Free the Stars this past month and I would say that it was average - gave each 3.5 stars. There are parts I loved and some parts I felt like dragged on. But I was def entertained and still liked the story. Given that it was a debut duology I thought it was really good and I will be reading whatever she puts out next.
The world building in City of Brass is so beautiful. Totally lost myself in this beautiful world and characters. Fingers crossed you enjoy. Have a great week everyone.
I guess I would say for Blood and Ash- it picks up a lot more soon from where you are and it gets super twisty! But it’s totally understandable if you don’t like the tropes... they aren’t like necessarily meant to be likable lol. But if you push on it picks up very quickly and then I couldn’t put it down! Hope that helps :)

You’re going to love The City of Brass! Don’t worry about the length-once you pick it up, you’ll race through it haha. I’m also predicting you’ll immediately want to read the following two books because the story is SO good. I think they’re making a Netflix show based on it which is gonna be amazing (unless they screw it up so keeping hopes high but expectations low lol).

I recently read The Memory Police, and had to switch from Ebook to Audiobook, because of the pace, and writing. I really loved the book, it was written beautifully, and the story was intresting. I would really recommend it as an audiobook!

I was also very close to dnf blood and ash but I pushed myself and around 40-50% in it got very good and I loved it. The second one is even better.

I read red rising and absolutely loved it is one of my favorite fantasies ever and I still haven’t picked up the second book because I’m so scared of what’s going to happen I loved the ending of red rising so much I don’t even wanna ruin it for myself!
The House of the Cerulean Sea is amazing and was my favorite book of last year.
I’m waiting for my books to come so I can start my Feb TBR 😂 (but hoping to read “The Enchantment of Ravens” or “Sorcery of Thorns”!)
