I simultaneously love and hate these videos, by the time the video ends, I’ve got like 465768 books in my cart 😭
Circe is a great book but I absolutely love song of Achilles! It is one of my all time favorite books!
Circe an Salt to the Sea are my favorite books ever!
When I found out “When Dreams Descend” was partly inspired by “Phantom of the Opera” I knew I had to get my hands on it!!!
So many of these are also on my TBR!
I hope you love Darkest Part of the Forest- it's such a beautiful standalone and you'll definitely recognize some characters from the later Folk of the Air books! And Name of the Wind is one of my favorite books ever
The Palace of Illusions has my heart! My one of the best reads from 2020.
The Broken Earth Trilogy was so different and unique! I really enjoyed it.
I want to read so many of these too! I hope 2021 is an amazing reading year! (I definitely think it will be with all of these!) I read Beloved last year for my AP Lit class and it's definitely a super hard read but very worth it and amazingly written. I NEED to read Strange the Dreamer, The Diviners, The Gilded Wolves, and The Night Circus from my physical TBR!!
The Memory Police, The Name of The Wind and The Fifth Season are all some of my all time favourites!
Ahh! The Night Tiger, Circe, and The Name of the Wind are some of my all time favorites!! I hope you love them
Ooo I'm so glad to hear that! Thank you!
Congrats on reaching 46K!!!
The Henna Artist is fantastic. The Night Tiger and Circe were also good
The Name of the Wind also sat on my shelf for a couple years after I bought it, but I finally picked it up in early 2020, and I loved it! Currently still reading the second book since they are long books, but so far it's very much worth the time:). I also read Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys in middle school (I think?), and I remember liking it! I'm excited to check out her other books sometime
Omg finally! A POC booktuber, with such a cool TBR too
subscribed immediately~
Name of the Wind is one of my favorites . Also, I just finished The Fifth Season and I am onto the second book. It’s a really good time !! Thanks for your ideas too.
I'm currently (finally) reading The Secret History and although the start was a bit laborious, I'm now really enjoying it! (I'm exactly half way through)
The god of small things is on my tbr too! So is Normal People, but like you I've been hesitant to pick it up since I've heard so many negative things about it lately...
Circe is one of my favourite books of all time. It's so beautiful, inside and out!
Nice to see some stand alone Fantasy books, that’s what I’m looking for this year!
The Secret History and Circe are also on my book bucket list this year. I unfortunately had to DNF The Secret History, just too slow for me, but I’m 100 pages into Circe and love it so far!
I read the god of small things in high school because my teacher recommended it and it traumatized me lmao
The Night Tiger is on my TBR too!
Paradise by Toni Morrison is a great read! If you’re looking to read more of her books, I would definitely recommend that!
I’m soooo excited for Where Dreams Descend😍😍
Yesss! I love Salt to the Sea, and I've reread it so many times. I love your videos, Jananie!❤
It's nine days into the year and my TBR just keeps on increasing after every video lol
Haha happy to help 😂😅
I picked up The Darkest Part of the Forest a couple months ago on a total whim. I had the opportunity at my work during the holiday season to listen to a lot of audiobooks (and I was definitely trying to catch up on my goodreads goal lol mood) and it popped up as one that was available at my library. I really enjoyed The Coldest Girl in Cold Town but for some reason had put off this other one because I had heard mixed things back in the day when it was being talked about, but I was really pleasantly surprised and really enjoyed it!
Salt to the sea is amazing!! SO happy you are going to read it!
I'm reading The Memory Police at the moment and it is beautifully written! Such an intriguing concept 🤩
I love Normal People (both book and show) but if poor communication/miscommunication is a trope you don’t enjoy, you may not like it.
Love Circe! Beloved is a tough read but worthwhile. I really loved Sula from Toni Morrison.
Mexican Gothic! I loved it, I got it for Christmas and flew through it
I am currently reading Circe and It's amazing! Hope you love it
circe is amazing!
Oh yessss, janani's recs to fill my tbr shelf
I need to pick up my copy of Where Dreams Descend
Yes do! I loved it and can’t wait until the sequel to this duology comes out in September (my birthday month)!
all the stars and teeth is soooo good!!! you will love it i’m sure ! off topic but your lipstick colors are always so pretty :))
The God of Small Things is a great choice!! It won the Booker Prize and is a great book that changes one's perspective!! Wishing that you like it..
Also the palace of illusions and name of the wind has been on my shelves for a million years!😂 Would pick it up if you like it!
I love Normal People and Mexican Gothic!!! Both super well written and very different takes on the genres!!!
Enjoooy! I also want to read Salt to the Sea this year! I also want to finish the Trials of Apollo and An Ember in the Ashes!
I really hope you enjoy Wicked Fox! I read it last year and absolutely adored it.
Yes I love ruta sepetys definitely a favorite new author ive discovered ive only read her salt to the sea but theres something about how she wrote it and maybe the time I read it I absolutely loved it
Beloved & Song of Solomon are my favorite Morrison books! She is amazing.
Memory police is so great! But in my opinion Yoko Ogawa's best book is The Housekeeper and The Professor. Extremely emotional and sweet.
Ooo I'll have to check those both out!! Thanks for sharing!
@@thisstoryaintover 'the housekeeper and the professor' is one book. Haha, I should've mentioned that.
You had me at phantom of the opera. I gotta read that book NEXT!
I love the darkest part of the forest, you should definitely read it
I love your videos and you ❤. Happy new year 🎉
Oldest on my tbr is the book theif! I have read half of it once and just got too busy to read and put it down. I need to correct that this year!
I really enjoyed All the Stars and Teeth! I hope you enjoy it as well.
I believe Circe is a hit or miss. Many people have enjoyed it, but I didn’t care for it too much. But that could also be because I don’t care much about mythology lol
The fifth season is truly mind blowing! You’re going to love it
If you can understand it lol I’ve heard some people say it’s hard to keep up with.
I was just talking to a friend about Neverwhere!! I'm glad it has rave reviews - Id like to read it as well!
I have a few of these books on my tbr as well 😀
You were the first person who introduced me Tasha Suri! 🥰
When you mentioned best horror book in Goodreads, I figured it is Mexican Gothic. I have yet to read it though. 📖😅
I read the God of Small Things when I was 13 and boy, I was never the same again
Your hair is so FABULOUS!
I am so interested to hear what you think about the Memor Police. It sounds really good!
I am currently reading All the Stars and Teeth! I am really enjoying it. The magic is so great! I hope you get a chance to read this one too 😊
All the Light We Cannot See has been on my tbr the longest, I really need to get to it
I'm also reading the Darkest Part of the Forest this year 😁
I’m reading the darkest part of the forest right now and so far it’s really good. I also want to read We Hunt The Flame as well! It looks really good! 🔥 🔥
Oo I'm so glad to hear you're enjoying it!!
I’ve had Furyborn on my shelf for almost 4 years and I’m hoping to get to it in 2021!
Just to let you know The Darkest Part of the Forest is set in the same world as The Folk of the Air, before The Cruel Prince but after The Modern Faerie Tales.
Oh my god! The God of Small Things is one of my favorite books ever! I'm so excited to hear your thoughts on it (yes it is pretty slow with a unique writing style and structure, so I know it's not for everyone, keep that in mind) ♡♡
Glad to hear that you loved it! And yes, will definitely keep that in mind ❤️
The god of small things is soooo good but heartbreaking!! Enjoy!
It is hard to get into “The God of Small Things”. I only got through the first chapter and want to continue it. I also want to read Beloved!
the fifth season is amazing but you defo need to pay attention to all of it
Definitely watch Normal People! It’s stunning. I read The Broken Earth trilogy and I didn’t love it, but if you’re into heavy sci fi, I’m sure you will!
i felt like the fifth season was well-paced but there's also some fantasy jargon you gotta wade through so it makes sense to take it slow. the topics are heavy too so be prepared.
Loved the normal people show, a genuine adaptation. Didn’t think the book was as great as it was hyped to be though
❤
YES READ WHERE DREAMS DESCEND
Where do you get your bookmarks? I never know where to get them 🙈
The sequel for Where Dreams Descend adds Hadestown to the list of comps, soooo I really need to read book 1 because Hadestown is what got me through 2020 lol and obviously Phantom and Moulin Rouge big buzz word comps, so I'm mad that I haven't already read it haha
Ooo very interesting! I'm excited to pick it up!
I don't know if the show they made based on Normal People is worth watching but the book... Oh boy I didn't like it at all. I had to read it for school, I'm still trying to figure out WHY my Italian teacher gave us such book to read but... I don't know. I don't wanna say too much, maybe you should read it and have your own opinion on it. When I heard people were talking about Sally Rooney as the "New Jane Austen" I got really interested and read this book in three or four days (it's very short) but to this day, I still have no clue how it could be compared to Jane's work.
I know some classmates of mine enjoyed it, but maybe it was the style, maybe the characters, or the story, or even that it's not a young adult and I'm a teenager but I seriously won't ever recommend it.
Anyway, great video as always, I had to add some of these books to my already-endless TBR, thank you Jananie!❤️
I hated Where Dreams Descend. I ended up DNF’ing it halfway through. I couldn’t bring myself to read anymore. It was hellish!
Ooh, the Late to the Hype bookclub is reading The Secret History this month! maybe you could join! They're on insta!
Luv frm india
I really want to read So You Want To Talk About Race, I bought it last year from a second hand book shop, it was one of their new ones I just haven't gotten around to that one or Why Are All The Black Kids Sitting Together In The Cafeteria just because I did read a few antiracism books and needed to take a break because it's a lot of politics and history, obviously, which is fine but I think I got burnt out you know?
Me and my tbr are in a toxic relationship that’s all I’m saying
Name of the wind is a good fantasy book, but it’s a bit overhyped IMO. Be prepared for a ton of suspense and not a lot of satisfying payoff.
