I would like to see a separate video on the testing requirement and how you did your end of the the year annual report. We live in Georgia and my oldest is in third grade this year. Thanks for another great video!! 🙂
I live in Georgia! I just decided to pull my daughter out. We walk in faith and the school definitely didn’t like that she was talking about Christ with other Kids! I pray that this will be a smooth transition. But if you know any social circles can you please list them. Thank you so much and god bless!
I'm in Cobb and just pulled my 6 year old out and them teachers looking at me like I can't do it. How cute of them 😆
@@yannwhite8615 how do you get into homeschooling what do you need to do? I need help
I have a 4 year old son and we are also seeking some good social groups on Georgia if you find one let me know
Heritage Homeschoolers is in Cobb County, but you don’t have to live in Cobb to join!
I love your method of giving yourself the entire year to satisfy the 180 day requirement! That is smart! ❤
I had no idea you were in Georgia too! Thank you so much for this video. I’m also so excited about the new law, I was homeschooled in Georgia as a kid and we would have loveddddd to have that law then. ❤️
Me too!
Yay! Thank you so much for your prompt response!
Great video mama as always! Informative and you have given great tips! ❤
Thank you for making this video!
love this video thank you for the info!
Awesome information Brittany! This is much needed!
Thank you for sharing the updates on the laws!!
Very helpful video. Thank You for this!
Thank you so much for your perspective!!! This was all so informative! Love your sweet spirit! ❤
I'm in GA too and just started this year. Thank you for this video!
Thanks for sharing love the video and your lighting is awesome God bless
Your video has been so helpful. We are new to homeschooling, and this video made it an easier transition!
Oh my goodness!!! Such a huge beautiful blessing!!! Thank you so very much for sharing ❤️ many blessings to you and your family!!!
I find it so interesting how much the procedures change state by state, even states on the same regulation level!
I loved this! The fact that you said those 4.5 hours just means we have to be intentional in our teaching! Such encouragement! Blessings on your homeschool year mama!
Thank you for this video! Considering Georgia for homesteading and homeschooling.
So excited to hear Georgia's laws and regulations!
This was so informative and helpful
I have a dear friend in Georgia. ❤️ So interesting to learn the different regulations.
Loved the recap and the update on the new GA laws! Just filed our L.O.I. for our 2nd year of H.S. I would love to hear more about your testing experience. We will be tackling that new experience this year.
I'm going into my 14th year as a Georgia homeschooler. You did a wonderful job breaking down our state requirements. I also give myself a full calendar year when choosing my school dates. We usually hit 180 though on a good year around April. On a rough year sometime in June. That buffer is good. I did want to mention two things though. In our state compulsory attendance law is from age 6 to 16. Therefore you would not be required to test for 12th grade a standardized test because 12th grade is not required. But that is the time most students are taking SAT/ACT. Also there are no "approved" list of standardized test. The only requirement is that it is a "Nationally Recognized" standardized test. We've done the CAT, Standford 10 online and the IOWA Basics. I actually test annually for my own personal records starting after 3rd grade. This coming year I'll have a senior homeschool student. I'm going through the college application process. You are doing good to keep thorough progress reports or records each year. That skill will come in handy I'm high school when some universities want you to put together a portfolio with course descriptions and whatnot. Awesome 👍🏽💕 video.
Wow that is so awesome, Thank you so much for this information. Now that I have started homeschooling my husband told me he wants us to go all the way!!! Kind of nervous but I know we can do it. Thank you so much again for this clarification!!! 🥰
This is awesome information. Do you know of any home school coops? I'm in Henry county and as I'm planning I want to ensure our boys can connect with other home schoolers
@@brittanyolga Currently have preschoolers but I am definitely interested in what records you keep to monitor progress. Thank you for your informative videos!
Were in GA, and this was super helpful. Ive been homeschooling for a while and my third grader will be testing this year. also trying to be more intentional about correctly record keeping ect. so this was a good and simple way of explaining it all. thank you
Thanks so much for this. My babies are 5 and 3, and I'm getting prepared for my 5 y/o to start school, I'm pleased that he can start at 6-- gives me a little more time to prepare. Also I'm so blessed to be living GA, with so little regulations🙌🏾 thank you again. Just subscribed
Thank you for this! Im about to entire my first year of homeschooling and just moved here from a different state.
yes I want to hear more about testing!
Thank you soo much. Your video is such a blessing, so glad I came across it. - Beautifully explained. I also live in Georgia, and have been on the fence about Homeschooling but your video clarified so many questions i had. I am so encouraged to do this. I am actually excited to start this with my Children. Thank you so much.
Hi! New GA Homeschool Mom!!! Super nervous but excited!!!! So glad to see “GA Mama Peaches” on YT
I know this is an older video but it was so helpful to me. I will be a first year homeschooler in Georgia with my daughter who will be starting 2nd grade. I agree with those above that I would be interested in a more detailed video specifically on your testing experience as well as your progress report record keeping. I had a sleepless night and binged on your videos. Subscribed immediately.
Thank you so much for joining us on this collab!
I totally agree with including life skills!!!!!
That’s what I do.
oh good reminder, things are every changing!!!!
Yes I was so surprised to see the changes just in one year 😊
Great video, with great tips, also when you homeschool in Georgia. it is WITHIN 30 DAYS of Sept 1. so if it's Aug 30. it's ok. And to find the ga standards you can go online and they are free to download if you don't know 'What' or 'Where to start.
Such a good idea to put the whole calendar year in the notice of intent. I was worried about fitting everything in with my work schedule in the 180 days, but this method puts my mind more at ease. I don’t think we will need the full year but like you said putting the full calendar year gives me some flexibility! I’m not in GA but this video was still helpful and applicable to me. I just love your videos! By far my most favorite channel! Keep ‘em coming! :-)
Thank you so much 😊!!! And yes I was so stressed out last year I said never again lol .I am so happy that helped!!! I hope you guys have an awesome school year 😊
Thank you so very much! Blessings to you for helping us figure out the way. I've submitted my Declaration of intent today. Do you know if I can count the first 3 weeks of public school towards her hours for this year? Like get some docs from the school to keep in her file for this year's hours?
It's crazy how different the laws vary from state to state! You guys are so lucky for the extracurricular law!! There are a few counties in NC where the schools offer for homeschools, but the majority of the state does not. Great video! 💕💕
Thank you so much momma 😊
Great great job..!
I’m so glad I watched this. I really think I’m gonna homeschool my son this year. Private school was wildly expensive this past year so I don’t wanna do it again this year. I also am just not confident in the schools that are in our zone, so I will make the sacrifice this year.
They all sound great! The one I’m scared of is the testing one. 😢
Thank you 🙏🏽🌿🌞!
Thank you!
I would love to learn more about the testing please do a video on that
Love it! I just liked and scribbled
I am currently homeschooling in Idaho and might be moving to ga. I would love to learn more about the cat text you did with your daughter. I feel it would be the best fit for my boys.
Thank you for this informative video! 😊 My daughter wont turn 6 until November so I guess I have to wait until next year for actual registration?
Yes 4.5 hours seems intimidating but I love how you broke it down as homeschooling including life skills!
Yess it is definitely a life saver to be able to include those life skill into homeschooling 😊
Thank you so much for all this extremely helpful information! Before this video we genially thought homeschool was not an option and had no idea of where to even start. We are located in GA. Unfortunately live in an area with low rating school options and can't afford private school. Our son is one, do you have any suggestions on how we can prepare him for homeschool?
I'm sooo glad you made this video. We currently live overseas but are looking at moving to Georgia when we move back.
Oh wow that is amazing 🤩!!!! I would love to meet up when you guys come seriously 😍
@@brittanyolga That would be awesome! 😃Yes, we will definitely have to plan for this ❤️
I would love details about the standardized test! My state requires standardized test every other year, after 3rd grade, and the test you mentioned is on the list of acceptable test.
Audio books and podcasts in the car are also great ways to get those 4.5 hrs.
I love this. Thank you. I'm located in GA. Did you put together a group of georgia Mommas that homeschool? 😅
Thank you for this info! i had one question, does the homeschooling program or curriculum need to be accredited to be able to transfer those courses over to face to face public school. We plan on homeschooling for the rest of 2022, possibly using EasyPeasy's free curriculum and next school year doing in person classes at a public school for our kids.
Hi! Thank you for your video! I'm extremely new to this. Do you have a format that you use for your annual progress reports? That's the thing that I'm most worried about.
I look everywhere for one and no I don't I just listed the subjects and wrote what my daughter mastered from the curriculum under each subject and called it a day. Hopefully this helps. Best of luck with everything.
Hello Brittany. Could you provide a link to the test supplier you chose from the list? I see there is a list of nine. Academic Excellence is no longer on the list.
I’ll be starting either this year or next, my granddaughter will be 5, so she’s not required to start until she turns 6. So maybe we’ll do our own homeschooling this year then next year the required one. No clue what I’m doing lol
Hi I am going to start home schooling in August I wanted to know where you get the text books and curriculum. Any information will be helpful thank you
Thank you so much for posting this video. We are considering homeschooling for our now 2nd grader next year. We live in Atlanta and this video was very helpful. Can you recommend co-ops or mommy homeschooling groups I can join for Moms in Georgia? I looked on Facebook but I felt a little lost on which ones to join.
I am still trying to figure out the co-op too 🙈lol
I am now actively seeking to start homeschooling my two sons. I am wanting to have everything in place to start homeschooling before September 1st. My 5yr old will be 6 in March and I have a 7yr old. So this is a perfect time to start since you can’t start until the age of 6. I am in Georgia as well. You explained this very well and I appreciate you for your help and tips on homeschooling. It’s so good to know that it’s not many requirements that need to happen before starting. I was looking to have another teacher do it but after watching this video I think I might teach them myself. Along with their dad. I’m excited about it now lol. If you wanted to travel to other states for educational purposes, would we have to inform the board of education about it? Like do we have to label it as a field trip? Or we can go as we please as long as we are doing our 180 days of learning and 4.5hrs of learning?
same here as well! my 5 year old turns 6 in march too so kindergarten will be a practice year for us :) Goodluck and God bless mama!!
Thanks for all of the information! At what age does the 4.5 hours a day requirement start? Same question for the subject requirements?
From my understanding it is from school age of 6-16 ! However 4.5 hours includes reading aloud, cooking, educational videos, nature studies. It is so much that can count for 4.5 hours of instructional time. You will end up doing more than that easily. 😊
Hi, I would love for you to make a video on the test you have done , was this test through Internet? Would you please explain I algo live in Georgia
Thank you for this video. Okay so if I wanted to pull my kid out mid year like now and do it am I able to or would I have to wait til next year
You can pull your child out of public school in the state of Georgia at anytime you want. 😊 Best of luck with everything
Very interesting that you have a set amount of hours! How do they check up on that? Do you just record the amount of time daily?
Nope we do not have to record time which is kind of crazy lol You just count the school day
So If I wanted to start homeschooling today Oct 13 the I would be past the deadline or I would have to submit it 30 days after starting per the website and every year by September?
This will be our first year homeschooling in GA, do you file the declaration of intent first then withdraw from school?
Do they still have to do the Ga milestone or just the standardize testing starting in 3rd grade
This will be my 1st year doing home schooling for my son who will be attending Elementary next year. Okay I have a question...what is a good free online school to choose from for ga?
I was under the understanding that once I had sent in the declaration of intent for my son last year it was good until or if I chose to send him back to public school. I just found out that that was not the case today. So as I was reading about the law I found that it said after the first year it had to be turned in by Sept 1 each year after the first year. 😯... So I filled it out today...which is the 19th of Sept. Do you know what is the penalty for not getting that in on time?
What do you think about ITBS tests?
I know this is an older video but I have a quick question if you don’t mind. Did your daughter take the timed or untimed test? We are looking at the CAT test as well and I noticed both options were available. Just watched another homeschool mama’s video and they opted for untimed. Was hoping to get your opinion as well. Thanks so much for the great videos.
I did the untimed version of the CAT exam. However in the upcoming years I will not longer use this specific exam. I noticed that Georgia state laws also requires these standardized test to be proctored by someone one other than the parent and the CAT exam no longer meets that specific requirement.
www.gadoe.org/Curriculum-Instruction-and-Assessment/Pages/Home-Schools.aspx
I’m about to move to GA from UT where the only homeschool regulations are to submit a one time letter of intent, and then keep your own records. 😅
I am in GA we are new to homeschool..my kid is very behind ....how do.i figure out what grade curriculum to start with ? Do I create a curriculum that is 1-3rd grade??? Thanks!
Hi, so form says that you can count the days that they have already attended in public/private/charter/so on, How do I count these days? do I count instructional days that they were in class only minus any absences? or am I counting from day school started to the day I withdraw from the school? Thank you so much for all your help!
I would count the instructional days and add them up and see how many days you have left to meet the 180 days for the school year. Best of luck on your new homeschooling journey. 😊
Is your diffuser wireless? If so can you provide a link for it?
Not wireless the cord is on the left but I’ve seen it on Amazon
Hey! I've always wondered who this is accountable to, are you turning in any of these items like the standardized testing results and yearly progress? I've tried to understand for our kiddos, it seems like they can take a test to get into college once their older, but these standardized tests seem to just be for our records. Do these records count towards anything in order to graduate? Thanks for the video!
I was wondering the same thing about the standardized test as well. I believe we are to keep them on file just in case we are to be audit by the Georgia Department of Education. If anything I find the standardized testing every 3 year more beneficial to the homeschool family to see progress and growth over the years. Hopefully this helps 😊
I live in Georgia as well and am thinking about pulling my 2nd grader from public school. So, the intent form having to be submitted by sept 1, does that prevent me from doing so after he’s already started the school year? Do I have to ride it out until next year or can I pull him and switch to homeschool now?
I do not think so from reading the website. I believe you can pull your child from school anytime to homeschool. I believe the deadline is for once you have already established or started homeschooling. I linked the website below for you.
www.gadoe.org/Curriculum-Instruction-and-Assessment/Pages/Home-Schools.aspx
Do you know if the requirements for the testing is different for kids with special needs? I can’t find the info on the different requirements for kids who are not able to sit for those type of tests.
I am not to sure I would follow up with your local school district to verify. The requirements or exceptions. Hopefully that helps.
You all are SO blessed to be able to homeschool. I am hoping for God’s favor to allow me to do this. 🙏🏽
I truly feel this way too 🙌🏽. I will be praying for you for the God to open the door for your and your family.
@@brittanyolga Update: It's happening!! I will be working from home starting June 1st, and we will be homeschooling this fall! Praise the Lord!!
@@KAM0327 🎉🎉🎉🎉🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽 I am so happy for you all. 😍I hope you have a blessed homeschool year.
Do you think it’s best to do an accredited program for someone that is planning for children to return to school? I am thinking of bju but I believe this curriculum isn’t accredited.
Honestly, if it was me I would save my money and not pay for the accreditation. I would just look at the Georgia state standards for my child’s grade and make sure the curriculum pick matches it close so there won’t be any gaps. I hope this helps best of luck with everything
is homeschool considered an actual educational institution in GA?
What if your child is on an IEP and doest participate in standardized testing (Milestones)? My daughter would just fail...like score a zero so I don't see a point.
Wow! I give so much credit to homeschooling moms/ parents or whoever does it. Do you find yourself doing this for their entire schooling? Or will you eventually fade them back into public school? Wish I can say things are getting better but everyone you turn around it’s something else
Yes honestly I don't think i am turning back now it has been so amazing !!! It seems more on paper than when you are actually just taking it day by day.
@@brittanyolga glad you love it ❤️
Hey I am new to homeschooling and last school year 2022 was my first year . My son was in 3rd grade but I did not get standardized testing as required , I was completely lost as to how to even order the test. Its now 2023 school year and he’s in 4th . Is it too late to complete the testing now that it’s after July 31st ??? does this mean he would need to do 3rd grade over and testing on time ?? I’m really nervous about not legally having my ducks in order . Can someone please give me some advice 🙏🏾😖😅
Honestly, I am not to sure about their being any specific date requirements for the testing. I believe the law states they have to be done before the end of third grade. If I was in your shoes I would do the standardized test before starting 4th grade. I will link below a site where you can find a list of test supplier options. ghea.org/standardized-testing/
Does the homeschool have to be accredited?
Im wanting to pull my youngest out of school, its now november but not sure.
Follow your gut. It’s never to late to make the decision. Best of luck with everything😊
it is now after September 1st. I want to pull my kids. do I I have to wait until next year to homeschool?
Nope mama ! You can still pull them out September 1st is the deadline for continuing homeschooling.
Georgia sounds so similar to Texas!
I want to pull my 4th grader now and then in January I want to pull my 2nd grader.. Do I have to pull them at the same time?
Nope you can pull them out one at a time if you like 👍🏽
So for the testing do they have to go somewhere for that? My cousin use to homeschool and had to take her kids to the local college for the standardized test. Has that changed?
It depends on which publisher you use. Now you can do it from the comfort of your home with an online proctor. ☺️
So is kindergarten not required in Ga?
New subscriber btw! ❤️
Nope or not not required for Ga. 😍 You could choose to enroll your child in public school at 1st grade. Or start homeschooling official at 1st grade too.
@@brittanyolga yay! So what age do they go to first grade? 😅 First timer here lol
Also, what resources, for example books/materials are okay for you to use as far as curriculum? Can you go to Barnes and nobles and find a history book and use it? Or go online and find resources? Assuming it has to come from a credible source.
As a homeschool mom you have freedom to use whatever curriculum, books, and resources you want to use in the state of Georgia. All you have to do is cover the 5 main subjects reading, english, math, science, and social studies 😊. This is such a big perk of homeschooling using whatever works for you and your family.
@@brittanyolga that's amazing! Sorry for the questions, I literally don't have anyone else to ask. And I keep pausing your video and going back to watch it again since I'm doing stuff around the house. So might comment again later tonight once I finish it 😉☺️
@@jl8805 No problem at all. Trust me ,I understand that was the same way I felt when I started homeschooling.
@@brittanyolga I finally got to finish the video 😅 thank you so much for making this video! I'm definitely saving it for when it's my turn 😉 thank u!
Can you homeschool an 8th grader while working full-time online yourself? I'm new to homeschool. Do I have to sit with him for the 4.5hrs per day?
I believe you can definitely do it !!! Especially if you school on the weekends or evening also by choosing a lot of student-led curriculum as well. Best of luck with everything 😊
Hi! So I’m kind of confused, my son is 5 right now my question is would I have to wait a year (when he turns 6) to start kindergarten at home?
Kindergarten is not a required educational year in Georgia. So we don’t have to register them with The Georgia Board of Education until 1st grade or age 6❤️
@@brittanyolga ah ok! Thank you 😊
Great video, thank you for the information and tips. Does the 4.5 school hours apply to each student? I have two children.
Hi there. Are you testing before or after 3rd grade?
Georgia requires the testing be done before you complete the grade. I choose to test at the end of the school year. 😊
@@brittanyolga Thank you🌸
Does anyone know where I can get a free curriculum for 9th grade??
Khan Academy online has free math and language arts plus Free Sat and Act prep. It will be a good start. Hopefully that helps
@@brittanyolga yes thank you..I feel so lost..I will definitely be looking into khan academy
How did you pull your child out of school? Excuse my ignorance. Trying to figure everything out 🥲
All you have to do for Georgia is write a letter to your child’s school saying you intend to homeschool. You can either mail it certified or submit it in person. Make sure to keep a copy for your records. After that all you have to do is fill out the Georgia Declaration intent online and you are set to go. Hopefully this helps. Best of luck with everything 😊
@@brittanyolga thank you so much your the best
@@brittanyolga how did you choose what homeschool curriculum you were going to do?
@@lindashay3480 Honestly we started off using BrainQuest for her grade until I made my final decisions for official curriculum it was cheap and got us by until we landed on our chooses. Masterbooks is my favorite curriculum though.😍
@@brittanyolga thank you the lady told me we had to do an online curriculum. She seemed confused. I don’t want to do online that’s the whole reason I want to do homeschooling 🤦🏻♀️
